Film critics Eric D. Snider and Jeff Bayer talk movies, pimp and play a game. Come join us, won’t you? First up is “The Debt” starring Helen Mirren, Jessica Chastain, and Sam Worthington. Eric liked it, Jeff verged on love. Jeff also plays a little of his interview with Mirren and company. “Shark Night 3D” and “Apollo 18″ weren’t screened for critics, so we have no idea what level of bad they are. We did answer the Qotw which was: In honor of “Apollo 18,” which presents a horror twist on the Moon landing, what other historical event could be given the horror treatment?
Next up is “A Good Old Fashioned Orgy” starring Jason Sudeikis and a bunch of others. Both critics enjoyed it enough, though Jeff found it a little tame. They play a rousing game of Pitch Me starring Richard Gere and Scott Baio, yes The Scott Baio.

Mercedes Quintero, Lucas Ferraro, Manuel Vignau in Marco Berger‘s Plan B (top); Tim Bergmann, Sascha Kekez in Dennis Todorovic‘s Sasha (upper middle); Andy Blubaugh‘s The Adults in the Room (lower middle); Johnny Ferro, Stephen Tyrone Williams in Kareem Mortimer‘s Children of God (bottom) Outfest 2010: Children Of God, Bloomington, Light Gradient, Plan B Synopses Marco Berger‘s Plan B, Susan Koch‘s The Other City, Dennis Todorovic‘s Sasha, Andy Blubaugh‘s The Adults in the Room, and Kareem Mortimer‘s Children of God are some of the highlights at Outfest 2010, the 28th edition of the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, on Saturday, July 10. In the Argentinean romantic-triangle-of-sorts Plan B, a young man (Manuel Vignau) dumped by his girlfriend (Mercedes Quintero) not only befriends the young woman’s new boyfriend (Lucas Ferraro), but also attempts to seduce him. Note: This may sound like a comedy,...

Jeff Bayer was in Hawaii, so Eric D. Snider’s pal Andy Blubaugh, a Portland filmmaker, fills in for this week’s show. Andy even did his homework by seeing the J-Lo movie “The Back-Up Plan” with Eric, a mistake he won’t repeat any time soon. Eric’s review of “The Losers” is also a downer. Andy’s own film, “The Adults in the Room,” is also discussed, and it is agreed (by Eric, anyway) that Eric plays the most important role in the film.

Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider
Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider are movie critics, but not the stuffy,
elitist kind. They’re not the idiotic fanboy kind either. So what kind
of movie critics are they? The kind with an Internet radio show,...

Portland, Or based filmmaker Andy Blubaugh first drew the attention of programmers and indie film audiences when his short film, "Hello, Thanks" was included in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Like his follow-up short, "Scaredycat," which premiered at the following year's Sundance, "Hello" is a documentary which employs a distinctive and highly personal style and tone - self-referential but not self-indulgent which he has called "speculative documentary construction" - which quickly ...

- I could have sworn that it was just yesterday that I had become livid over never receiving subscription copy of Filmmaker Magazines’ 25 New Faces of Independent Film issue. Well 2006 is history, and this year’s feature names/faces (grab yourself the summer issue or read here) includes more of the same – a list comprised of mostly filmmakers, Sundance kids and up-and-comers that we here at Ioncinema.com do speak about on occasion, but we’ll be most likely going gaga for in a couple of year’s from now. Here’s a quick rundown.+ Andy Blubaugh+ Daniel Barnz+ Azazel Jacobs+ Calvin Reeder+ Fellipe Barbosa+ Tze Chun+ Moon Molson+ Sophie Barthes+ Jennifer Venditti+ Kim Reed+ Craig ZobelCraig Zobel's directorial debut.+ Phillip Van+ Vineet Dewan+ Ronald Bronstein+ Hope Dickson Leach+ M dot Strange+ Kentucker Audley+ Georgina Lightning+ Vicente Amorim+ Alex Holdridge+ Stephane Gauger+ Brian M. - Imagine having to sift thru approximately 2000 feature length films to come up with less than 120 selections. If I'm a programmer at Sundance, I’m glad when I'm sifting out the submissions for the short films category – worst case a bad film takes up only 5 minutes of your time instead of 120. Below is the list of titles to be screened in various short-film categories. After the fest, I’d try and find some online - these are the starts of many filmmakers who'll you come to admire perhaps including the directorial debut by a certain Gwyneth Paltrow? Some of these shorts have websites - click on the links for more info!
