Olivia Newton-John has opened up about her bout with depression and how she coped with the mysterious disappearance of her partner of nine years, Patrick McDermott, who vanished on a fishing trip off the California coast in 2005.
The actress and singer, 64, tells U.K.'s The Times that she relied on antidepressants to help her deal with the tragedy, according to the Daily Mail. Newton-John says she used the medication for three months following McDermott's disappearance, explaining, "I took them until I could see the light again and never did them again. I didn’t want to become dependent on them. That’s why I stopped."
"Of course I still think about him," she adds to The Times. "It was a difficult time and got me out of a hole."
Newton-John, who's now married to businessman John Easterling, also reveals that she went to therapy when life got too difficult.

Q: Does Lucy Lawless regret that they killed Xena? – Craig, Norfolk, Va
A: In fact, she does. In “A Friend in Need,” the two-part Xena: Warrior Princess series finale back in 2001, Xena allows herself to be killed, so she can become a ghost and fight a spiritual being. Later, after Gabrielle finds a way to bring Xena back to life, the Warrior-Princess heroically chooses to stay dead in order to make amends for past sins. The series ends with Gabrielle, a full-fledged warrior at last, carrying on Xena’s legacy.
Gabrielle bids farewell to Xena
But as I’m sure you know, Craig, fans were livid – both at the death itself and over the way she died, which included, um, decapitation.

Officials investigating the disappearance of Olivia Newton-john's former lover have renewed hope he is still alive after he reportedly sent authorities a letter begging to be left alone.
Patrick McDermott, presumed dead after disappearing on a 2005 fishing trip, is said to have faxed a message to U.S. private detectives asking to live his life in peace in Mexico.
The fax, obtained by Britain's Daily Mail, reads, "Pat has asked that I portray to you his innocence. Pat has committed no crime. Pat simply wishes to be left alone. Let him live his life in peace and harmony. He is safe and has started anew again in a new place both physically and mentally. Stop this search immediately."
Lead investigator Philip Klein alleges he and his team have also received three phone calls from McDermott's representatives in the past six months, which followed 16 sightings of the cameraman in Mexico in recent years.
Klein believes McDermott is now working as a deckhand in fishing town Sayulita amid speculation he had staged his own death to be free of child support debts to ex-wife Yvette Nipar.
The Grease star was left heartbroken after McDermott vanished off the California coast, but has since found love with tycoon John Easterling, who she married in Peru last summer.
