Norbert Köbli is one of the most prolific and talented young
screenwriters in Hungarian cinema, and Chairman of the Hungarian
Screenwriters' Association (MFE-HSA).
Originally a lawyer, Köbli made a name for himself with his early
rom-com involvements: an uncredited rewrite and a creative producer
credit on
S.O.S. szerelem! (2007), writing
the screenplay for
9 1/2 Dates (2008) and adapting
Made in Hungaria (2009) the
stage show for the big screen. Each of these blockbusters, starring his
close friend
Iván Fenyö, went on to become
the year's biggest moneymakers, respectively.
After writing for HBO, TV2 and Hungarian National Television, with a
script doctoring gig at Sia, Bulgaria, Köbli was able to set-up his
dream project
The Exam (2011) with
Péter Bergendy directing and
János Kulka starring.
The Exam (2011) was released in 2011 to
rave reviews, with many calling it the best film of the year.
As of this writing (early 2012), Köbli is looking for opportunities to
work with Fenyö and Bergendy again, as well as trying his hand at
writing short films for director
Zsombor Dyga's
Couch Surf (2014).
