Back in December, Pendulum began teasing that they would return in 2017 when the drum and bass band announced their slot at the upcoming edition of Austria’s Nova Rock Festival. The group are now compounding our excitement with a cryptic new website and video that seem to cement that something big will happen this year.
The new video, titled Pendulum Returns, arrives as a twenty second long clip that features black and white urban footage spliced together in a rapid fashion, intercut among shots of the band’s logo. In the background we can hear the persistent ticking of a clock, implanting in the viewers mind that they’re counting down to something big.
Along with the video, Pendulum have unveiled a new website; pendulumreturns.com. Upon arriving at the site, users are directed to enter their email address in order to “be the first to know.” Again, we’re...

Despite Rob Swire’s insistence that a Pendulum reunion isn’t happening, it would appear that the drum and bass band is gearing up for just that. Fans were pleased to see the group close out Ultra Mimi earlier in the year, sparking rumors that more live appearances were on the way. Now, a new slot at a festival in 2017 hints again at the possibility of a Pendulum reunion.
The group have been revealed as performers at Austria’s Nova Rock Festival. They’ve also been booked as a live act and are slated to perform next summer. It should be noted that Knife Party is also listed on the festival’s lineup.
In addition to the festival slot reveal, Pendulum also took to social media to tease a major announcement, posting an image featuring their logo with the tentative date of 2017. While it’s not clear if the group...

When deadmau5 released his now classic tune “Ghosts N Stuff” eight years ago, he probably couldn’t have anticipated the effect it would have on his career. With Rob Swire’s soaring auto-tuned vocals and an uplifting house production, the single went on to define the burgeoning Edm scene of 2008 and has remained a fan favorite ever since. Just in time for Halloween, the Canadian producer’s ode to ghosts now gets a haunted makeover courtesy of Xan Griffin, who manages to deliver a suitable re-imagining of the classic progressive house cut.
Xan Griffin opens his remix with the familiar organ progression from the original, adding a haunted flare to the tune with wailing guitar licks and dramatic strings stabs. Things really get ghastly in the breakdown, as spooky sound design builds the remix up to suspenseful anticipation, leading into some heavy drops that take an unexpected turn. Half time...

Ultra Miami treated fans to a rare surprise earlier in the year when they secured drum and bass band Pendulum to close out the festival for its final night. Following their first live performance in years, their website was brought back online, causing fan speculation to run rampant over the prospect of a reunion for the now disbanded electronic group. With word of another performance scheduled for Perth spreading around the internet, the reunion rumors have once again hit a fever pitch.
After the rumors caught fire, Rob Swire took to Twitter yesterday to be the bearer of bad news, effectively shutting down any hope for a full blown Pendulum reunion. His Tweet states that the Perth performance is merely a one off DJ set because their schedules happened to line up for the show, but that a Pendulum reunion still isn’t happening.

In the two years following the release of Knife Party‘s debut full length studio effort Abandon Ship, the Australian electro duo have been relatively quiet on the release front. Now, however, following a cryptic social media post, it appears the hard hitting production moniker of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen is gearing up for something new.
Taking to Facebook, Knife Party shared a mysterious video that has us as confused as we are excited. The clip is comprised of just a few seconds of footage with TV static and the sound of guitar amp feedback, with the words “Coming Soon” serving as the true focal point.

Back in 2013, Knife Party dropped their four track Haunted House Ep, a release that featured a slew of hard hitting electro-house tracks like “Lrad” and “Power Glove” and set a new standard for the duo. At the time of its release, the Ep was originally slated to feature an additional track in the form of a Hardwell collaboration called “Baghdad,” before the Dutch DJ nixed the idea.
However, Hardwell took to Instagram over the weekend to share a picture of himself posing with Knife Party members Rob Swire Gareth McGrillen backstage at Edc Las Vegas, with the caption on the image reading “Who’s ready for that new new collab?”
It’s an unknown at this point whether the collaboration Hardwell is referring to is the shelved “Baghdad” or an entirely different track, but in either case, dance music fans will no doubt be excited at the prospect of a Hardwell/Knife Party release.

Pendulum has been resurrected, and they’ve got a remix in the works. We’ve made it a point to educate newer dance music fans on the significance of the drum and bass group’s reunion at Ultra Music Festival this weekend, and it looks like they plan for it to be more than a one-off performance.

Seldom does chance have it that an electronic music producer is as simultaneously celebrated by both seasoned and novice fans of the genre as Erik Prydz is. The Swedish progressive house icon boasts a nearly two-decade career during which his creative process has evolved into one of the most highly regarded sounds on the market, – and with the release of his long-awaited debut album, Opus, it’s no exaggeration to suggest that this time in music belongs to him.
As if the music itself weren’t layered enough, Prydz chose the most enigmatic way imaginable to build up to the album’s release. Over the course of last year’s festival season, he released three EPs titled Pryda Vol. I, II and III – chronologically ordered collections of his music from the previous ten or so years that up until that point had only been available in his live sets. Progressive house legend Eric Prydz is back with another huge track this week in the form of “Breathe,” his collaboration with Knife Party/Pendulum’s Rob Swire.
Set to appear on the Swede’s upcoming album Opus, which drops February 8th, the song is a bit of a departure from what we’re used to hearing from Prydz but a welcome one nonetheless. It features Swire on singing duties (a rarity these days) as we get a slower, melody-driven beat that, along with Rob’s euphoric vocals, brings “Breathe” to life.
Putting these two talents together on a track was always going to produce impressive results, and that’s exactly the case with “Breathe.” It’s another knockout from Prydz and getting to hear Swire on vocals is a real treat, as it’s not often that that happens.

Back in 2011, Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen stole our hearts with Knife Party‘s first Ep, 100% No Modern Talking. Having played a pivotal role in dance music as members of both Pendulum and Knife Party, these two producers have nailed an iconic sound. Their newest Ep, Trigger Warning, is a valiant attempt to return to their roots, but falls a bit short, and has left us wondering what took so long.
Continuing with their satire on all of Edm, the Ep opens up with “Plur Police,” a big room tune with belching lines of irony. It’s got all the requisite vocal samples and raucous behavior of a Knife Party production, centering around poking fun at Edm’s current state of affairs. Prydz premiered the track on his recently debuted Beats 1 show. Australian electro house duo Knife Party are behind schedule on their upcoming Ep – which, at this point, doesn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s no secret that Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen of Knife Party come from an instrumental background. Before working together in drum and bass band Pendulum in 2002, both artists played guitar and bass for a slew of rock bands – and often cite such groups as their primary influences. Therefore, while it might come as a surprise to the outfit’s newer fans that they would bring Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello onstage during a performance, it’s not as unexpected a homage for longtime listeners.
The pace of the ID is largely set by Morello’s contribution: a foreboding guitar riff in minor that hails back to ’90s era Metallica before opening up into the aggressive grunge funk more characteristic of Rage Against the Machine. Leaked on iTunes suddenly last week (whether accidentally or purposefully we don’t know), Abandon Ship serves as their debut studio album and comes to us a month shy of their three month anniversary as a group. But it’s not like they’ve been sitting politely in a corner all this time waiting for their turn. Each year since their formation, Knife Party has added a new Ep to their ever-increasing discography, with this latest offering easily taking the cake for being the most fleshed-out creation in the collection. Some dents materialize on the duo’s flashy exterior,...

For those of you who are eagerly awaiting Abandon Ship, the upcoming album from Knife Party, we’ve got some bad news. The Australian duo has announced today that the disc is now delayed from its initial end of October release date to November 10th. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s definitely a bit disappointing for those who have been looking forward to hearing new music from Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen.
Thankfully, Knife Party did issue a statement apologizing to fans and explaining why they have to wait a bit longer now. It seems that the guys just needed some more time to polish off the tracks, which is perfectly fine by us. It’s not a big delay at all and if it means that we’re going to be getting more great Knife Party music, then I’m totally okay with it.

Yesterday at the 2014 iTunes Festival, which was held in London, deadmau5 put on a spectacular show for those in attendance. Delivering a set that was made up of both his classics as well as some of the new tracks off his recent album while (1<2), the Canadian DJ kicked off the event in style and gave his adoring fans well over an hour of superb music.
I’ve seen Joel perform live four times now and each time I’ve walked away extremely pleased. He really does put on one hell of a show and his set at the iTunes Festival only demonstrates that fact even more.
Check out the video and tracklist for the set below and let us know what you think in the comments section. Has deadmau5 once again left you impressed, or have you seen better?

Knife Party is getting ready to release their upcoming album Abandon Ship, and on August 25th, fans will get a sneak peak at what the duo has in store for us. Late last night, Rob Swire Tweeted that the first single, Resistance, would make its way onto the web at the end of the month. And the best part is, is that it will be free. He also mentioned that the full album would “follow shortly after.”
First single from the album is titled “Resistance”. It will be released for free (!) Mon 25th August and the album will follow shortly after

Of course, more Knife Party can only be a good thing, and with their upcoming album as highly anticipated as it is, I’m sure that fans will be extremely eager to hear what the duo has in store for us once they drop Resistance.

Pendulum have announced their split. The band confirmed that they have ended their 10-year career and will now part ways to concentrate on their own individual projects. Announcing the news on Twitter, Rob Swire upgraded his bio to read: "There will be no further Pendulum live shows. There are no current plans for a new album in 2013." Swire, who is currently touring with his side-project Knife Party, was the group's main songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. However, the star recently confirmed that his main priority is now Knife Party as he is having fun with the act. He told Australian radio station Triple J (via NME): "The Knife (more)...
