Telemundo’s Kvea swept all three regularly scheduled newscast categories, morning, daytime and evening. CBS/KCAL9 followed with 4 wins, with ABC7 and Spectrum SportsNet LA tied at 3 and Kmex, Spectrum News 1 and Spectrum SportsNet at 2. Local cable news upstart Spectrum News 1 has taken the crown for the first time ever in Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards nominations. The outlet, which just launched in 2018, pulled 23 nominations this year, up from 19 last year. That puts it head of public broadcaster Kcet, which was in second with 15 nominations (down from 23 last year).
The Television Academy announced this year’s L.A. area Emmy noms on Tuesday. Among commercial broadcasters, Disney-owned Kabc-tv was tops with 14 noms (up from 12 nods), then Fox-owned Kttv with 11.
There was a sharp decline in Spanish-language nominees for some reason this year. TelevisaUnivision’s Kmex and Telemundo’s Keva tied at 8 each — way down from last year’s 21 for Kvea and 16 for Kmex.
As usual, all stations that enter are immediately nominated in the daily morning newscast (4 a.m. to 11 a.m.), daily daytime newscast (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), and daily evening newscast (7 p.

The Los Angeles LGBT Center will host its second annual live Love in Action telethon on Aug. 14. The star-studded lineup includes Adam Lambert, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Manila Luzon.
“LGBTQ people have been disproportionally impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the work to build back amid the full reopening of California is just beginning. The dollars donated during our first telethon in September were put to use the very next day, and we are asking for your support again to help the most vulnerable people in our community,” center CEO Lorri L. Jean said in a statement. “No one was spared from the havoc and grief caused by the pandemic. While that battle continues, our community has always risen to the occasion to meet adversity and crisis with hope and compassion. With your support, I know that the center will be there once again for those who need us the most.

The 9 a.m. hour of KTLA Los Angeles' morning block is getting a makeover.
Starting Monday, the station is launching a talk show, described as a local version of "The View", which will be hosted by "KTLA Morning News" personalities Michaela Pereira, Cher Calvin and Jessica Holmes.
The hourlong program, which KTLA quietly has been prepping for the past month, will focus on topical issues of interest to Los Angeles-area viewers and include a mix of news and features targeted to women.
The new talk show will take over the last hour of KTLA's morning news block, which runs from 5-10 a.m. It will feature its own new graphics and intro separate from the morning news.
"KTLA Morning News" became "The KTLA Morning Show" in May 2006. The program, which originally ended at 9 a.m., was expanded by an hour in August 2006.
Possibly in a preparation for the launch of the new program, last month the "Morning Show" reverted to its old "Morning News" name, while the 9 a.m.
