There are too many Marvel Comics out there to read them all — and I'm talking about both the current ongoing series, and the 85 years of accumulated material. The publisher is aware of this, so what's its solution to hook new readers?
In 2000, Marvel launched "Ultimate Marvel," a new series of comics set in a separate continuity from the original "Earth-616" comics. The Ultimate Marvel comics followed the classic heroes, from Spider-Man to the Avengers (renamed the Ultimates), getting their powers in a more contemporary-styled setting. These were comics written not to appeal to long-time, continuity-obsessed fans, but to hook the new generation of nerds obsessing over "Buffy" and "The X-Files." That reverberated back and Ultimate Marvel became the primary influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After highs and lows, Ultimate Marvel ended in 2015. In 2024, it returned ... sort of. Rather than a continuation of the old Ultimate Universe, Marvel has just...

This article contains potential spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
For a movie that comes out in just a few months, we still don’t know that much about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. True, Marvel did release a trailer considered by many (including the Marvel Standom team) to be the best in the genre. But that teaser only included a few quick glimpses at returning characters such as Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Okoye (Danai Gurira), and new additions Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) and Namor the Sub-Mariner (Tenoch Huerta). In fact, the most detailed information about the movie’s heroes has come from merchandising leaks.
That trend continues with new images from three new action figures. Images shared by Twitter user @computron show a set sold at Target that includes Shuri, Namor, and Williams in her Ironheart armor. Unlike the Lego set that featured Shuri in a Black Panther-style costume, she wears a purple jumpsuit here.

Even though epics such as The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans, DC vs. Marvel Comics and Jla/Avengers are long behind us, I’m sure fans of the Big Two remain clamoring for more crossovers in the future. To be honest, I wouldn’t rule out such a thing down the line, but it appears as though something like that won’t happen in an official sense anytime soon.
Fortunately, Marvel has a way to circumvent this in a way, as they have the Squadron Supreme at their disposal. For those unfamiliar, this gang consists of analogs for DC’s most iconic heroes. Instead of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman making up its ranks, there are Hyperion, Nighthawk and Power Princess. Funny enough, this was taken to new heights when Adam West voiced Nighthawk on The Super Hero Squad Show.
Thank to Jason Aaron, this concept will soon become more “meta.

Welcome back to another installment of Panel Discussion – this time featuring reviews of a handful of books that I’ve recently added to my pull list, including The Punisher, West Coast Avengers and La Muerta.
The Punisher #3
Matt Rosenberg’s fantastic run on Punisher continues with issue three, which picks up from the cliffhanger ending of #2 as Daredevil tries to bring Frank Castle to justice, only for the subway car their in to become overrun with numerous enemies, all wanting the massive bounty on the Punisher’s head. Which means this issue is action-packed, and I do mean Action packed. From beginning to almost end, The Punisher #3 is non-stop action and violence. Which means there’s not much room for story… making this book feel a little like a filler release. Not a bad example of a filler book, more a pause in the story if you will. And whilst...

Arriving hot on the heels of that unforgettable trailer for Captain America: Steve Rogers, comes another visual treat for True Believers in the form of a new promo video celebrating Invincible Iron Man. Playing out as a motion comic, it brings readers up to speed on Marvel’s newest technologically inclined superhero, Ironheart.
Before we proceed any further, let’s check out the official synopsis from Marvel:
Superstar writer Brian Michael Bendis and rising star Stefano Caselli introduce the Marvel Universe to the newest armored hero on the block. Clad in her very own suit of homemade Iron Man armor, Riri is out to prove that anyone can change the world. Not to mention she has an A.I. helping her along the way – the downloaded consciousness of Tony Stark himself! Not to mention a special pep talk from Pepper Potts, a.k.a Rescue! The adventures of Marvel’s latest legacy hero continue in the third issue of Brian Michael Bendis’ revamped Invincible Iron Man series, as part of the company’s All-New All-Different initiative. As it turns out, however, it’s not as all-new and different as we might have thought, seeing as issue #3 re-introduces some old friends of Tony Stark.
Yes, if you’ve been following Civil War II you’ll know that Stark is gone and teenage prodigy Riri Williams is now getting to grips with taking on the mantle of Iron Man. The first two issues in this series were entertaining, if familiar, tales about Riri getting used to life as a superhero – and the weirdness of having an A.I hologram of Tony Stark following you around. Invincible Iron Man #3 nicely moves things forwards by, ironically, moving things back as Riri becomes involved in Stark’s world.

Last month a J. Scott Campbell variant cover for Marvel's Invincible Iron Man featuring Riri Williams caused a tremendous amount of discussion around how women are portrayed in comics. In this particular case, a Black teenager. But what it also did was highlight how reactions to critiques can say quite a lot. The variant cover was a Midtown Comics exclusive for the upcoming comic from creative team Brian Michael Bendis and Stefano Caselli. Marvel and Midtown Comics decided jointly to pull the cover, and while Campbell's reaction to critics wasn't great at first, it seems he was taking what fans were saying to heart. You may recall he did explain later his illustration was rushed: Sometimes these covers, like this one, are drawn in haste to meet a deadline and you have fly by the seat of your pants and fall back a bit on instinct rather than ultra-careful thought.

Marvel recently revealed that Tony Stark would be stepping away from Iron Man in the comics and that he would be replaced by a 15-year-old MIT student named Riri Williams, who is a genius that already built her own set of armor in her dorm room.
Marvel has revealed to Wired that the name of her version of Iron Man will be Ironheart. They've also provided some new art for us to check out. The transition of this character into her new role will start in this fall's Invincible Iron Man #1 which will be written by Brian Michael Bendis and the art will be created by Stefano Caselli. When talking about coming up with and using the name Ironheart, Bendis says:

A couple of days ago, Marvel Comics announced that the new Iron Man in the All-New relaunch of Invincible Iron Man will be a 15-year-old black girl named Riri Williams. ComicBookResources revealed what the character's armor is going to look like with this art by Stefano Caselli that you can see in full above. Looks pretty rad to me, and it's especially cool that there isn't anything here to indicate that a female is wearing the armor — it's sleek, functional, and would serve the wearer well regardless of gender.

At today's "All-New Marvel Now!" panel at the New York Comic-Con, it was revealed that we can expect yet another Avengers series on stands next year thanks to the debut of Jonathan Hickman, Nick Spencer and Stefano Caselli's Avengers World. February's Avengers: Undercover will serve as a sequel to Avengers Arena, featuring some of that series' survivors joining the Masters of Evil in an effort to infiltrate and bring down the villainous group from the inside. A new Black Widow ongoing will also hit in 2014 (from Nathan Edmundson and Phil Noto) as will Al Ewing's Loki: Agent of Asgard #1. It appears as if the God of Mischief won't be a child for too much longer! Finally, Secret Avengers will be getting a Third relaunch, with Ales Kot and Michael...

Cassandra “Cassie” Hack of horror comic Hack/Slash has a lot in common with another famous wisecracking monster-slayer – Ashley J. “Ash” Williams, immortalized onscreen by the one and only Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead films and the star of his own comic series. If you've ever wondered what it might be like to see the two join forces against legions of deadites, then your wish is about to be granted via the six-part crossover Army of Darkness vs. Hack/Slash, which makes its debut this week. The original Hack/Slash series left Cassie attempting to live a semi-normal existence with her gal-pal Margaret, but events conspire to throw monsters in her path once more when the chainsaw-armed Ash crosses her threshold. Army of Darkness vs. Hack/Slash continues a long tradition of Ash/monster mashups (Ash-ups?). He crossed over into the Marvel Zombies universe in 2007, confronted classic movie monsters in Freddy vs.

Announced in the latest "Next Big Thing" Liveblog over at Marvel.com, it has been confirmed that Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel) and Stefano Caselli (Amazing Spider-Man) will be taking over the reigns of Avengers Assemble from issue #9 onwards. As you can see from the cover by Steve McNiven below - a textless version of which was released last week - the title will form part of the Marvel Now! relaunch this November. The series will reportedly feature, "Tight 'get in, get out' adventures, focused mostly on the classic, 'public' Avengers from the movie, drawing in other characters as it demands," according to Tom Brevoort. It was also confirmed that both Spider-Woman and Captain Marvel will be joining the team. Writer Kelly Sue DeConnick clearly has some very interesting ideas for the series, telling the site the following. "I'm interested in new media ideas. I want to weave that into...

It instead appears as if we can expect to see Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel) and Stefano Caselli (Amazing Spider-Man) teaming up on the series, and it's hard to find fault with a creative team like that! Strangely, none of the heroes are wearing their redesigned Marvel Now! costumes... Assemble! Kelly Sue DeConnick – Stefano Caselli November 2012...
