A$AP Rocky is due to face a jury trial this fall over charges he opened fire on his former friend A$AP Relli on a Los Angeles street corner more than two years ago, a judge ruled Thursday.
The “Praise The Lord” rapper received a trial date of October 21, 2024 at a morning hearing attended by one of his defense lawyers, Sara Caplan. The judge said Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, must file his planned motion to dismiss the case by July 19. Caplan said she was still waiting...

High profile — and deeply polarizing — attorney Joseph Tacopina is no longer representing Donald Trump in the ex-president’s cases in New York City. Tacopina had previously represented Trump in a criminal hush money case as well as in E. Jean Carroll’s sexual abuse and defamation civil suit last year.
Reps for Tacopina didn’t immediately reply to request for comment. Trump campaign spokesman Steve Cheung said in a statement that Trump “has the most experienced, qualified, disciplined, and overall strongest legal team ever assembled.”

Updated, 12:28 Pm: A$AP Rocky pleaded not guilty today to charges stemming from an allegation that he pulled a gun on a fellow rapper during a 2021 altercation in Hollywood and then fired at him soon afterward during another confrontation.
The multiplatinum artist (real name Rakim Mayers) is charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, along with allegations that he used a firearm against Terell Ephron aka A$AP Relli on the night of November 6, 2021. He remains free on bond.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge M.L. Villar ruled in November that there was sufficient evidence to allow the case against Mayers to proceed to trial. Ephron testified at the hearing that he saw Mayers outside a parking garage in an encounter partially caught on surveillance video and that Mayers pulled a gun from his waistband, put it toward his stomach and said, “I’ll kill you right now.

A$AP Rocky is adamant he didn’t shoot his former friend A$AP Relli on a Los Angeles street corner two years ago and is hoping for a trial by September, his lawyer said after a court hearing Monday. Minutes earlier, the Grammy-nominated musician entered a new not guilty plea that was necessary because a judge ruled in November that prosecutors had enough evidence to warrant trial on two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

On Monday, Asap Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, sat in a Los Angeles courtroom for a preliminary hearing after being charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
Mayers reportedly fired a gun at his childhood friend, Terell Ephron, two years ago. The November 2021 incident reportedly caused minor injuries to Ephron’s left hand.
Ephron, who also goes by Asap Relli, claims that Mayers asked to speak with him about a disagreement they had. During their discussion, Mayers allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at him.
In another hearing earlier this month, footage of the altercation was played. A Los Angeles detective testified that Mayers shot a gun in the video. On Monday’s hearing, more footage was shown, in which two gunshots were heard. However, Mayers’ attorney, Joe Tacopina, who also represents Donald Trump, is denying that the person in the video is him.

A judge ruled Monday that A$AP Rocky must proceed to trial on two felony gun assault charges linked to his alleged shooting of former friend A$AP Relli on a California curbside two years ago. After twice-impeached-once-indicted former president Donald Trump’s new lawyer Joe Tacopina cross-examined magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll in her rape case against Trump this week, George Conway was unimpressed. According to the lawyer, Tacopina’s behavior was “outrageous” and simply “backfired.”
As Carroll took the stand, she was pressed by Tacopina about minute details of the alleged rape, which she testifies took place more than 30 years ago. Tacopina repeatedly asked her why she decided to come forward with the accusation when she did, and why she didn’t scream for help in the moment.
Reflecting on Tacopina’s tactics with MSNBC’s Alex Wagner on Tuesday evening, Conway felt Tacopina acted disrespectfully.

With the outlandish spectacle of Donald Trump’s arraignment and arrest dominating the news on Tuesday, late night TV went all in on trying to capture the historical, yet wholly bizarre, nature of the day’s events.
On The Daily Show, guest host Roy Wood Jr’s introduction to Tuesday night’s episode was unsurprisingly focused on the absurdity of the breathless media coverage surrounding the former president’s made-for-cable TV journey from Mar-a-Lago to a Manhattan court for his arraignment. Trump was indicted by a New York grand jury for his alleged role in a scandal stemming from hush money payments made to the pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
In an exhaustive summary of Tuesday’s events, Wood highlighted how Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene had compared Trump to Nelson Mandela and Jesus as other figures who had been subject to political arrest.

Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty Tuesday to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records arising from a hush money payment to a porn actor during his 2016 campaign, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the matter.
The plea came during a history-making arraignment in a lower Manhattan courtroom, with Trump becoming the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal prosecution.
The two officials who confirmed the plea spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because prosecutors had not yet released the indictment publicly.
The arraignment, though procedural in nature, amounts to a remarkable reckoning for Trump after years of investigations into his personal, business and political dealings. The case is unfolding against the backdrop not only of his third campaign for the White House but also against other investigations in Washington and Atlanta that might yet produce even more charges.

Days after the former president’s indictment at the hands of Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg, some of Trump’s lawyers are taking aim at Joe Tacopina, his co-lead defense attorney in the Bragg case.
A source familiar with the matter and another person close to Trump tell Rolling Stone that a number of Trump’s other current lawyers have privately described Tacopina as “dumb” and a “loudmouth.”

Two sources familiar with the matter say they expect Trump to surrender to authorities on Tuesday.
The historic indictment was highly anticipated, as details of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s probe into the former president became public in recent weeks. The New York Times was the first to report the news.

Donald Trump’s strategy has long been to never apologize for anything, but after posting an image of himself standing next to Manhattan District attorney Alvin Bragg and holding a weapon, even he appears to be having some second thoughts.
In the days since Trump fired off the now-deleted Truth Social post, he began asking multiple people in his orbit what they thought of the post — and the subsequent uproar around it. According to a person familiar with the matter and another source close to the ex-president, Trump was gently...

Even Donald Trump’s attorney declined to defend social media posts from the former president attacking Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, including an image of Trump wielding a baseball bat next to a picture of Bragg’s head. A lawyer representing Trump, Joe Tacopina, characterized as “ill-advised” that post and another where Trump warned of “death and destruction” if he is criminally charged for a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
During Tacopina’s Sunday appearance on Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd listed the various attacks Trump has made against Bragg.

Trump supporters on the online Maga forum “The Donald” are coming unglued at the possibility of the former president’s impending indictment, going so far as to suggest that a “Civil War 2.0” may be imminent and proposing the formation of a “Patriot moat” to prevent law enforcement from arresting him.
“Surround Mar-a-Lago or wherever he currently is and prevent ‘law enforcement’ from entering,” one person wrote, per The Daily Beast.
This prompted another to reply, “What if they use choppers to circumvent the Patriot moat?”

As twice-impeached former president Donald Trump potentially faces imminent indictment over hush money paid to Stormy Daniels in 2016, Joy Behar wondered during Wednesday’s episode of “The View” why Melania Trump is still married to the man. Host Sara Haines thinks there might be financial reasons behind it.
The question came up as part of the women’s discussion about how Trump’s legal team is spinning Trump’s involvement with the money sent to Daniels, with the claim that he paid her to keep quiet about their affair in order to protect his family and marriage.
“It’s not directly related to the campaign,” Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina said on “Good Morning America” Monday. “He made this with personal funds to prevent something coming out [that was] false but embarrassing to himself, his family, his young son.”

Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina struggled to defend false claims by the former president, who is facing a potential indictment regarding his role in the Stormy Daniels scandal.
On MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber Tuesday, Tacopina was asked to address Trump denying a $130,000 payment made to Daniels in 2016 to buy her silence over an alleged affair.
“He lied about it,” Melber said.
Tacopina countered by claiming that Trump did not lie because the statement was not made under oath. “A lie to me is something material, under oath, in a proceeding,...

The New York Times reported last week that the Manhattan district attorney’s office offered Donald Trump an opportunity to testify before a grand jury investigating a 2016 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. The offer signals that Da Alvin Bragg is getting ready to indict Trump. It’s now on Bragg to do so, as Trump is not going to testify or cooperate with the probe in any way, one of his lawyers said on Monday.

Aap Rocky is the victim of a failed shakedown and fabricated shooting accusation orchestrated by his “jealous” former friend Aap Relli, the rapper’s defense lawyer Joe Tacopina tells Rolling Stone.
Shedding new light on the disputed incident that led to criminal charges and a civil lawsuit against his client, Tacopina is adamant that Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, didn’t shoot anyone during the confrontation on a Hollywood street last November.
