When considering Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 Greatest Dance Songs All Time, one name kept popping up while examining decade-after-decade of hits: producer and guitarist Nile Rodgers.
The Chic leader says he owes his entire dance-music career to three songs. One night in the mid Seventies, he went to a club in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village and at one point, the DJ played the winning trifecta of Donna Summer’s “I Love to Love You Baby,” the Village People’s “San Francisco,” and Eddie Kendricks’ “Girl, You Need a...

Prolific up until his the very end, David Bowie is a model to so many artists precisely because he never stopped evolving. “David Bowie: The Last Five Years,” a new documentary from HBO, will chronicle the musician’s final projects, battle with cancer, and creative process. In the newly released trailer, the film promises archival footage, interviews with close friends and collaborators, and nuggets of wisdom from the man himself.
Aspiring musicians will no doubt be moved by Bowie’s indefatigable creative spirit. In one interview, he lays out one of his artistic tenets: “Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about at the right place to do something exciting.”

We're getting another Star Wars Story.
Director Ron Howard revealed the long-awaited title to the upcoming Han Solo standalone film in an Instagram video from the production's wrap on Monday.
"I'd like to take this moment to thank an incredibly talented cast and crew for all their hard work," the 63-year-old director said, before clarifying, "Can we even say the name of the movie?"
At that point, Chewbacca reaches in from off screen and hands Howard the title card, which reads: Solo: A Star Wars Story.

And there it is! The title keeps in line with the Star Wars franchise's other standalone films, e.g. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and, bizarrely, was predicted by Et's own Ash Crossan during a red carpet interview with Solo himself, Alden Ehrenreich, all the way back in November 2016.

Denis Villeneuve has been on the rise with hits like “Prisoners,” “Sicario,” and “Arrival,” which earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Director earlier this year, but everyone is going to remember his name after “Blade Runner 2049.”
The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 science-fiction film, “2049” already has critics raving, with early reactions calling the movie a “mind-blowing masterpiece” that’s “better than the original.” All of this praise is going to skyrocket Villenueve’s career, so it couldn’t be a better time to look back at where it all started for the French-Canadian film director.
Villeneuve partnered with the National Film Board of Canada for his official short film debut in 1994, and the result was an audacious 30-minute hybrid between narrative and documentary filmmaking titled “Rew-ffwd.” The director has proven himself to be a master of cerebral filmmaking in “Prisoners,” “Enemy,” and “Arrival,” and you’ll find...

Denis Villeneuve has been celebrating the upcoming release of “Blade Runner 2049” all month long with the release of short film prequels that help bridge the thirty-year gap between Ridley Scott’s original and his highly-anticipated sequel. Ridley’s son, Luke Scott, directed the first two short films, the Jared Leto-centric “2036: Nexus Dawn” and the David Bautista-starring “2048: Nowhere to Run,” but Villeneuve has recruited Japanese anime master Shinichirō Watanabe to helm the final prequel, “Blade Runner Blackout 2022.”

Watanabe is famous for directing the successful anime series “Cowboy Bepop” and “Samurai Champloo,” and he’s joined by experimental musician Flying Lotus who handles the score. The short film also features additional music by Gerald Trottman, Kuedo and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. The story depicts the lead up to a blackout that led to the prohibition of Replicant production.

Here at Et, we're obsessed with a lot of things -- and for the week of June 12 to June 16, this is what we're most excited about:
Why We're Obsessed With 'Rough Night'
The film is already being compared to The Hangover -- minus Alan's debauchery -- centering around a bachelorette party weekend that goes awry when a male stripper ends up dead in the beach house that Jess (Scarlett Johansson) and her friends -- played by Kate McKinnon, Zoe Kravitz, Jillian Bell and Ilana Glazer -- are staying at in Miami. While the movie doesn't open with all the women hungover, trying to retrace their steps, it does, however, highlight what happens when a wild bachelorette weekend takes some hilariously unexpected turns, ultimately bringing this group of gals closer together when it matters most. Et caught up with Johansson earlier this year, where the actress spoke candidly about the comedy. "It's wrong in...

While it seems every other week brings some kind of speculation about the future of the James Bond franchise — usually spurred by U.K. bookmakers on slow business days, which is then picked up by U.K. press on slow news days — the truth is nobody knows anything. And while there has been all kinds of talk about who could replace Daniel Craig as 007, that presupposes that he’s done with the series.

Neil Patrick Harris is a busy man.
In addition to hosting the Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 22, Harris is busy prepping his own NBC variety show that is reportedly based on the British series Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.
And while fans eagerly await the show's debut, NBC did share an amazing, albeit short preview.

An anonymously sourced Hollywood Reporter story Wednesday headlined “Also-ran Academy Host?” in their print edition gossip column, as well as an expanded online version blatantly headlining “Neil Patrick Harris Wasn’t Academy’s First Choice To Host The Oscars,” has been flatly denied by Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
The story, credited in the online version to writer Seth Abramovich, claims 2014 host Ellen DeGeneres was “begged” by the producers to host again but refused the offer. The piece then said Chris Rock, who shares DeGeneres’ ICM Partners agent Eddy Yablans, was “next on the wish list” but a deal “failed to materialize.” The story also said the producers even approached Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who also said ‘no.’ ” THR then says that only after these rejections was Harris — a four-time Emmy winner as Tony host and two-time Emmy host — offered the gig.

Chelsea’s Premier League title bid gets underway at Burnley this evening with the Blues having been made favourites by most bookies to lift the trophy next May. With several high profile signings in the bag, including a much-needed new striker in the imposing shape of Diego Costa, the team are certainly looking in good shape to hit the ground running.
While Jose Mourinho has a history of outstanding success at the club and a deep squad at his disposal, there are nevertheless some big questions which need answering before we can properly assess whether his team has what it takes to take the title. Being expected to challenge for every major trophy on the domestic and European stage will certainly take its toll and every weakness in Mourinho’s squad is sure to be tested from the very beginning, especially with so...

When Spurs signed Ben Davies in a double deal with Michel Vorm from Swansea City earlier this summer – a deal that saw Gylfi Sigurdsson and £3.5 million go the other way – it was generally considered to be the answer to the club’s long-standing left back prayers.
It’s a position the club have struggled to satisfactorily fill for years and last season epitomised this fact more than ever. Benoit Assou-Ekotto was sent out on loan to Queens Park Rangers and he certainly won’t be going back to White Hart Lane after his World Cup head-butting exploits. Danny Rose flattered to deceive for much of the season and, when he was injured, Kyle Naughton and Jan Vertonghen were forced to deputise in a position that isn’t favoured by either of them.

Hollywood is mourning the loss today of British actor Bob Hoskins, who died Tuesday of pneumonia at age 71. Helen Mirren, who worked beside Hoskins in the British gangster film “The Long Good Friday,” called her co-star “a great actor and an even greater man.” Also read: Bob Hoskins Was ‘X-Men’ Writer's First Choice for Wolverine “Funny, loyal, instinctive, hard working, with that inimitable energy that seemed like a spectacular firework rocket just as it takes off,” the Oscar-winning British actress said in a statement. “When I worked with him on his iconic film, ‘The Long Good Friday,’ he was supportive and unegotistic.

John Leguizamo honored Bob Hoskins on Wednesday by remembering their time together making the recently-deceased actor's “biggest disappointment” — the “Super Mario Bros.” movie. “Never worked a more gentle kind and talented actor,” Leguizamo tweeted, along with a series of screen shots from the 1993 video game adaptation. “Rest in perpetuity! My Mario brother!” The movie, co-starring the late Dennis Hopper as reptilian villain King Koopa, is remembered as one of the worst video game adaptations of all time. “It’s funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.”
I had heard about A Clockwork Orange long before I ever saw it. I was maybe 13 or 14 the first time my mother mentioned it to me. She told me about seeing it in the theatre at a young age; her older cousin being later scolded for having taken her. At 15, she had no idea what to make of the “ultraviolence” she had been exposed to. Knowing my mother rarely talked about movies from her childhood, you could say my interest was piqued. She didn’t go into many details, but I wondered how different it could possibly be from some of the violent films I had already seen. At this point, I thought Predator and Commando were the be-all and end-all of onscreen debauchery. I also thought I was ready for anything.

We’re all highly pleased nowadays that Harrison Ford stepped in to play Indiana Jones when Tom Selleck couldn’t, but let’s take a look at the opposite end of the spectrum: movies where the first choice actors found themselves unable to participate (or refused), though their replacements failed to capture the magic that the original picks would have presumably conjured up had they been cast.
Before we start, it’d be good to mention some of the actors who didn’t make it onto the list: Sylvester Stallone as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop (yes, you read that right), Arnold Schwarzenegger as John McClane in Die Hard (uh-huh) and Michael J. Fox as Bruce Wayne in 1989′s Batman (yes, really). Presumably there would have to have been some lifts in his boots or something.
Anyway, on to the real list, starting with…

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a third win under Tim Sherwood and victory at Old Trafford for the second season running as Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen goals sunk Manchester United.
A fourth home defeat of the campaign for David Moyes’s Red Devils leaves the Premier League champions with little hope of defending their crown. United are now 11 points behind current leaders Arsenal. Danny Welbeck’s strike in reply on New Year’s Day proved the smallest crumb of comfort.
Sherwood made three changes to the Spurs team that won at home to Stoke City last time out for this trip to the Theatre of Dreams. First choice fullbacks Kyle Walker and Danny Rose returned. Box-to-box midfielder Paulinho missed out, however, after damaging ankle ligaments. Etienne Capoue replaced him whilst Kyle Naughton and Zeki Fryers dropped out.
Moyes fielded an XI with four alterations from the narrow away win at Norwich.

As international football takes a backseat to club action over the busy festive period, Luiz Felipe Scolari can put his feet up for the winter and be content.
Big Phil, as the British tabloids dubbed him, celebrates a year in charge of this current stint as Brazil boss at the end of November. Following an indifferent start to his Second Coming, the Samba Boys have won 12 of the last 13 under the former World Cup winner.
We need hardly say it, but the weight of expectation on Scolari to deliver that trophy again on home soil next summer is massive. Given the hot form his team are in they are rightly seen as being in pole position for such glory.

Early tracking numbers are in which suggest that "Thor: The Dark World" is headed for an opening weekend box-office of over $75 million - making it one of the best November domestic openings of all time.
That exceeds the $65.7 million opening of the fist film back in May 2011, a film that went onto a $449 million worldwide haul. The sequel is scoring a 'Definite Interest' figure of 59%, a figure only 2-3 films a year reach, and a 'First Choice' figure of 18%. It's also tracking quite well with women.
The news comes as two clips, a featurette, and some B-roll footage from the film have come online. You can check them all out below:...

I was 3/4 last weekend with only Chelsea letting me down. Manchester United and Arsenal were comfortable winners as predicted whilst Sunday’s tip of under 2.5 goals between Southampton and West Ham was more than safe at 0-0.
Premier League sides performed well in Europe midweek with 5 of the 6 teams winning. Manchester United (4-2), Manchester City (3-0), Swansea City (3-0) and Tottenham Hotspur (3-0) all won by at least 2 goals too. Chelsea were shocked at home, losing 2-1 to Swiss Super League side Fc Basel.
Returning to domestic action, Chelsea host Fulham in Saturday evening’s televised game with José Mourinho looking to break this two-game losing streak.
To start the weekend, Norwich City host Aston Villa kickoff the action with both sides recording only 1 win in their opening four games.
Returning from Marseille midweek, Arsenal host Stoke City looking to extend their 6-game winning streak in all competitions.

The 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival recently wrapped and we're still catching up on a number of great events that we got to sit in on. One of them was a screening of the '70s classic “Deliverance,” hosted by TCM host Ben Mankiewicz. Organizers managed to wrangle director John Boorman and three-quarters of the cast's leads – Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight and Ned Beatty (Ronny Cox was off somewhere playing folk music,) to introduce the film. Although we have seen the movie many times and delved into it deeply (read our “5 Things You Might Not Know About "Deliverance" feature,) we still learned a few more things about the landmark film … Warning -- massive spoilers ahead, if you've managed never to see the film. There's no need to get nervous, it was only a movie, although we could swear we hear some “Dueling Banjos” in the distance... 1. Sam Peckinpah Was Author James Dickey...

Now these are unlikely casting reports we hear today – namely, Robert Redford is in talks to join the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a “senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D.” If it happens, Marvel will score big, as Redford has been sticking to acting exclusively in smaller indie films or his own directorial projects for the past few years; his last starring role in a Hollywood “mainstream” film (that he didn’t direct) was Tony Scott’s 2001 thriller, Spy Game. I never saw him as a superhero flick-actor, but, since Kevin Feige recently described The Winter Soldier as a “political thriller,” Redford should...

While it’s typical for film franchises to keep the same stars between sequels, the big time-jump between Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier makes retaining the cast a trickier venture. But thanks to the power of flashbacks and “comic book science”, it’s not an entirely impossible one.
So far, Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan have been set to reprise their roles. Now, Toby Jones is joining them also. In a recent interview given to HeyUGuys.co.uk, the British actor confirmed that he’d be reprising the role of one of the villains, Arnim Zola:

And he clocked up 108,000 miles travelling between the 20 resorts in countries like Turkey and Egypt. (Ani)...

Matt Skinner, helping you drink better
Coles has released a new summer ad campaign for its low-price booze chain Liquorland.
The campaign is part of a push to raise the profile of Coles’ alcohol retail brands – led by new liquor marketing chief Cameron MacFarlane – to match the broad exposure of the Coles supermarket brand.
Coles kicked off a major marketing offensive in October with a campaign for First Choice featuring wine expert Matt Skinner as brand ambassador. Skinner is also fronting Liquorland’s summer campaign.
When Coles launched its summer campaign for First Choice Liquor in October, it used roster creative agency Big Red – which is behind Coles’ supermarket brand advertising. Although MacFarlane did not rule out working with other agencies for Liquorland and Vintage Cellars, Big Red was also used for Liquorland.
A new campaign for Vintage Cellars is expected to break around Christmas time.

My awesome colleague Halle Kiefer reported this past Friday that Carrie Underwood has been picked to play Maria von Trapp in a new NBC revival of The Sound Of Music. Halle was excited by the news, but she did acknowledge that there are purists out there who “might find Carrie too pop/country/tan/not Julie Andrews to step into Julie Andrews’ shoes.” That’s me. I’ve seen the film at least 20 times, I own commemorative plates, books, and the newly released 45th Anniversary Edition of the film on Blu-Ray and DVD (complete with karaoke singalong tracks and a keepsake music box!), I DVR’d the crap out of the cast reunion on Oprah and I nearly turned my honeymoon into a whirlwind tour of Salzburg so I could “Do Re Mi” up the steps of the Mirabell Gardens. So yeah, I’m a fan. And I’m not feeling Carrie Underwood.
