"Killing yourself is a lot harder than peolpe think." LevelFilm has debuted an official trailer for a nihilistic indie comedy titled Dead In A Week (Or Your Money Back), opening limited next week. Made in the UK, the film premiered at the Edinburgh and Galway Film Festivals and has been flying under the radar for a while now. The story follows a young man who ends up hiring a genial 65-year-old hitman after his ninth unsuccessful suicide attempt. As in: "If you're serious about ending it, you need professional help." Aneuin Barnard stars with Tom Wilkinson, and a cast including Freya Mavor, Marion Bailey, Christopher Eccleston, and Gethin Anthony. This looks like an ambitious debut that's trying to mash up a few genres. Here's the trailer (+ poster) for Tom Edmunds' Dead In A Week (Or Your Money Back), on YouTube: After 27-year-old William (Aneurin Barnard) fails at his ninth attempt at suicide,...

It feels like a long time since we had an accomplished black comedy to have come out of Britain. Which makes the forthcoming release of Tom Edmunds’ Dead in a Week (Or Your Money Back) even more enticing, telling a tale of a young man so inept at committing suicide, he hires an assassin to do it for him.
Starring British screen legend Tom Wilkinson as the ageing killer, as well as Aneurin Barnard and Freya Mavor, the impressive ensemble pointed towards a filmmaker with lofty ambitions, and we had the pleasure of heading down to the set, on a location shoot for a restaurant sequence, where we spent time with cast and crew of this funny piece of cinema.
When managing to get a brief moment with Edmunds, who was naturally rather busy that day, he spoke of how essential it was to getting this film off the ground,...

Truly dark British comedies are far and few between. The masses of the 21st century seem to want something mind-numbing and full of juvenile jokes. God forbid they have to exercise their minds whilst chewing on sweets and popcorn. After the plethora of summer superhero blockbusters and hideous Halloween flicks comes something rather brilliant – Dead in a Week (or your money back) is exactly the type of black comedy dreary autumn London needs.
This is a laugh-out-loud hour and a half that truly tickles the soul. From slapstick falls to fairly serious ones, this feature is deliciously daring at every turn. Struggling writer William desperately wants to end his suffering attempting to kill himself 7 times(10 if you count the cries for help). Spotting this man’s desire to die whilst clinging to a bridge, aging assassin Leslie sees the opportunity for a job and that job just might save his own skin.

Dead in a Week (Or Your Money Back) Official Synopsis
William (Aneurin Barnard) has failed to kill himself seven times, ten, if you count the cries for help. He’s tried everything but nothing seems to work. It’s got so bad he’s begun to think he might be immortal.
Ageing hitman Leslie (Tom Wilkinson) is a one-man euthanasia clinic with a good heart but an increasingly shaky hand.

The first feature from writer/director Tom Edmunds is a black comedy which is fun, but not particularly funny. The film is a charming romp, and sometimes comedy is more about comfort than humour, but I laughed only four times, which doesn't feel like quite enough.
Aneurin Barnard plays William, a depressed young man who has attempted (and failed at) suicide so many times that he's decided to write a book on the subject. When his writing is discovered by publishing editor Ellie (Freya Mavor) and the two begin a furtive courtship, it looks like William's life is about to get better.
There's only one problem. William has decided to hire a professional hitman named Leslie (Tom Wilkinson) to dispatch him once and for all, and Leslie is desperate to make his monthly 'killing quota', o...
