Though audiences abroad may not be familiar with the name of Alper Mestçi he has quickly become one of the dominant forces within Turkish genre film. Having started as a writer Mestçi first appeared on the feature scene with 2007 horror effort Musallat, winning notice at home and abroad for his feature debut and launching a career that spans eight features as a director. And the latest - Üç Harfliler 3 - features plenty of what caught the eye in his earliest work. You want local religion, superstition and folk tales rolled up into a dark phantasmagoria of spooks and scares? Because that's what Mestçi does best and there's a whole lot of it on display in the trailer for this latest effort, a trailer...

'Subtle' is not a word likely to be applied to any of Alper Mestçi's Siccin films and with the trailer for the third entry in the Turkish horror franchise frreshly released I think we can all agree that this is a good thing. Weaving elements of romantic melodrama around ghosts, demons, mass graves and all manner of nasty things this is a skittery, jump cut filled, gloriously over the top affair. We've said of the Siccin films in the past that if Mestçi could think of it, it was probably in there and that kitchen sink approach is very much in full effect once again. This trailer is great fun, take a look a below....

Turkish horror is a road I’d really like to go down. From rip-off cinema like Seytan (aka Turkish Exorcist) and the contemporary Dabbe series, to the eagerly anticipated cops vs. cult film Baskin, there seems to be a true ‘no rules’ attitude here. For example, SİCCİN 2, director Alper Mestçi’s sequel to the 2014 original looks unreal, full of true…

Turkey has long been releasing rip-offs of popular American movies, and now that they have a new original horror flick coming out entitled Siccîn: Büyü Haramdır, we can only hope The Asylum returns the favor, if only out of spite. Read on for the first details of this foreign spookfest!
In Turkish theaters on September 26th, Siccîn: Büyü Haramdır stars Pınar Çağlar Gençtürk, Koray Şahinbaş, Ebru Kaymakçı, Merve Ateş, Güneş Galava, Toygun Ateş, Aydan Çakır, and Asuman Kostak. It is directed by Turkish fear film sensation Alper Mestçi.
Below you'll find the trailer, which is unfortunately subtitle-free. Still. It looks pretty friggin' spooky!
This is normally the part of the story in which we'd tell you what this one is about, but every synopsis we translated via the web came back a ridiculously garbled mess. From what we've gleaned from the gibberish we've read, Siccîn: Büyü Haramdır is somewhat of...

Though Turkey is a country with a long history of genre film that history is precisely that: History. And largely in the past. Here in the present things are a bit different with just a small group of directors working within horror film and, of those, very few stick in the genre for long. Which makes Alper Mestçi something of an anomaly.Writer-director Mestçi made his debut back in 2007 with horror effort Musallat (Haunted), and while he also has a couple of comedies to his credit he returned to horror with a 2011 sequel to his debut and now again with upcoming effort Siccin. The trailer for this one promises all manner of dark delights ... blood sacrifice, black magic, sinister cults ... if you...
