Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Petruzzi was adopted by David and Marcella
Petruzzi from St. Joseph's Home for Children. Graduated from the
Pennsylvania State University in 1983. An insurance broker, Petruzzi is
also a well-known author of non-fiction books about the American Civil
War, and writes many articles for publications such as The Gettysburg
Magazine, Civil War Times, and America's Civil War. His first book,
co-authored with Eric J. Wittenberg, was titled "Plenty of Blame to go
Around: Jeb Stuart's Controversial Ride to Gettysburg" appeared in 2006
and was received to wide acclaim. His second book, "One Continuous
Fight" was released in 2008 and is the first scholarly work to appear
on the subject of the retreat from Gettysburg. His third book, "The
Complete Gettysburg Guide" (maps and design by Steven Stanley) was
released in May 2009 and won the U.S. Army Historical Association's
Award for Distinguished Writing, Reference Category. His fourth book,
"The New Gettysburg Campaign Handbook," will appear in June 2011
followed by "The Gettysburg Campaign in Numbers and Losses" (October
2011). In the spring of 2011, Petruzzi was named the Historical Advisor
to the 8-part TV miniseries "To Appomattox" (summer 2013) written by
Michael Frost Beckner.
