Ryan Michelle Bathé is set as a lead opposite Terry Crews in JumpStart, CBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot based on Robb Armstrong’s long-running comic strip, Deadline has confirmed.
Based on the popular comic strip that debuted in 1989, JumpStart is set in Philadelphia and follows Joseph L. Cobb (Crews), a cop, his wife Marcy (Bathé), a nurse, and Joe’s partner Crunchy. Joe and Marcy are young, hip, urban parents with old school values who are willing to sacrifice for their kids and have some laughs while doing it!
Bathé’s Marcy is a hard-working nurse who is naturally maternal and wise beyond her years. She and Joe share a close bond and are supportive of one another even when they don’t agree. The two have a good life in their middle-class Philly neighborhood with their two teen kids — meeting all challenges, and enjoying their share of goofy times as well.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum Terry Crews has been tapped as the lead and also will executive produce JumpStart, CBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot based on Robb Armstrong’s long-running comic strip. Wayne Conley (The Best Man) penned the TV adaptation for the project from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV and CBS Studios. Phill Lewis will direct and executive produce the pilot, replacing Kelly Park due to changes in the production schedule; Park is directing NBC’s comedy pilot Non-Evil Twin instead.
Based on the popular comic strip that debuted in 1989, JumpStart is set in Philadelphia and follows Joseph L. Cobb (Crews), a cop, his wife Marcy, a nurse, and Joe’s partner Crunchy.
Crews’ Joe Cobb is a devoted husband, son, father and Philadelphia police officer. He is also a proud Black man and often feels pressured to be flawless in each of his roles, especially in light of controversies surrounding cops.

CBS has set premiere dates for retuning comedy Man With a Plan, starring Matt LeBlanc, and new sitcom Broke, starring Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette. Both will join the schedule on April 2, airing in the Thursday 8:30 Pm and 9:30 Pm slot, respectively.
Man with a Plan, heading into its fourth season, will succeed Unicorn while Broke will replace Carol’s Second Act after both freshmen comedies complete their runs. Unicorn and Carol’s Second Act both received five-episode back orders from CBS for a 18-episode Season 1, short of the traditional full-season 22 episodes. Both are on the bubble for renewal.

The comedy features LeBlanc as old-school guy Adam, who begins a construction business with his wife Andi (Liza Snyder) after hitting a rough patch. Their house-flipping enterprise also involves Adam’s clueless brother (Kevin Nealon) and unlikely friend Lowell (Matt Cook).
LeBlanc executive produces the series with Jeff and Jackie Filgo, Michael Rotenberg, Troy Zien, and Gregg Mettler. CBS Television Studios also produces the show.
“Man With a Plan” began its third season on Feb. 4. It joins other shows that CBS previously renewed for the 2019-2020 slate, including “FBI,” “God Friended Me,” “Mom,” “Young Sheldon,” “Magnum, P.I.,” and the final season of “Criminal Minds.” Both “Mom” and “Young Sheldon” were renewed for two seasons each. CBS has renewed multi-camera comedy series Man With a Plan for a fourth season.
As we noted in the CBS renewal update last night, the Matt LeBlanc starrer had been considered the most likely among the network’s bubble comedy series to score a pickup. Stay tuned for cancellation news later today.
While never a breakout, Man With a Plan has been a decent and pretty consistent ratings performer. The series has been averaging a 1.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demo and 6.3 million total viewers (most current). Additionally, the comedy comes from CBS sibling CBS TV Studios, and adding a fourth season would be beneficial to the studio as it would make the sitcom easier to sell in syndication.

CBS is using a different approach to unveiling its winter scheduling plans this year — by genre. After announcing its midseason unscripted slate yesterday, the network today is focusing on comedy.
Coming off the schedule in January/February are freshmen Murphy Brown and Happy Together; coming on are new comedy Fam and returning Man With a Plan.
CBS so far has given a Back 9 pickup for a full-season order to one new fall comedy, The Neighborhood. Like all current broadcast sitcom reboots, Murphy Brown was designed for a limited run and will wrap its freshman run with 13 episodes though its ratings delivery has been somewhat disappointing.
For Happy Together, starring Damon Wayans Jr., CBS has opted not to order additional episodes beyond the original 13. Per CBS’ standard Mo the past few years, the comedy is not canceled and will remain in contention for next season.

Kali Rocha, who has recurred opposite Matt LeBlanc on the first two seasons of Man With A Plan, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming third season of the CBS comedy.
Rocha plays Marcy Burns, the bossy sister-in-law to Adam Burns (LeBlanc). She has appeared in 24 episodes.
“Kali is effortlessly funny,” said Jackie Filgo, executive producer and co-creator of Man With A Plan. “She’s always believable, yet finds a way to add comedy. When you come across someone like Kali, you don’t want to let her go.”
Season three of Man With A Plan is currently in production and will premiere during the 2018-19 season.
In addition to LeBlanc, Liza Snyder, Kevin Nealon, Stacy Keach, Matt Cook, Grace Kaufman, Matthew McCann and Hala Finely also star. Jackie Filgo, Jeff Filgo, Matt LeBlanc, Michael Rotenberg, Troy Zien and Gregg Mettler serve as executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

Just 72 hours after emancipating himself and his impressive client list from ICM, former co-president Ed Limato has inked a multiyear deal with WMA.
Limato, who joins former ICM colleagues Jim Wiatt, George Freeman and his own one-time assistant Troy Zien, brings with him an A-list roster that includes Denzel Washington, Mel Gibson, Richard Gere, Steve Martin, Michael Biehn, Thomas Jane, Derek Luke, Sam Neill and Adrian Lyne. The move dramatically bolsters WMA's talent department, which already boasts such high-earning clients as Russell Crowe, Eddie Murphy and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and narrows the distance between WMA and industry leader CAA.
"I can only speak for what it does for us," WMA CEO Wiatt said. "Ed is a great inspiration. There were standing ovations when he walked down the halls."
Last month, Limato left ICM after a nearly two-decade marriage, creating an acrimonious split between the uber agent and the recently revamped agency.
In the wake, Limato loyalists Matt Eskander, Richard Konigsberg and DJ Talbot were shown the door.
