Right on the heels of being poked fun at by “Saturday Night Live,” “Ginny & Georgia” has entered the top echelon of Netflix viewership. Season 2 of the mother-daughter series has reached Netflix’s Top 10 list of English TV seasons at No. 10.
Season 2 of the series, which premiered all eight episodes on January 5, has reached a total of 504.77 million hours watched in its fifth week of availability, according to numbers provided by Netflix. The streamer additionally estimates that 56 million households watched the season, although that’s based on its total hours viewed divided by its roughly 9 hour runtime. The show’s ascent means Season 2 of “13 Reasons Why,” another teen series, has been booted from the all-time list.
On Netflix’s chart dated January 30 through February 5, “Ginny & Georgia” Season 2 is at No. 2 behind fantasy show “Lockwood & Co,” with an additional 38.09 million hours viewed. Season 1 of “Ginny & Georgia” also makes the list,...

The show’s name is Ginny & Georgia, so it clearly wasn’t going to keep the mother and daughter apart for long. Following the Season 1 finale cliffhanger, in which Ginny and her little brother skipped town after she discovered that their mom had poisoned their stepfather, the Season 2 trailer features Georgia and her kids back under the same roof in Wellsbury.
Ginny is trying to live with her mom’s deadly secret while acting normal, which is proving rather difficult, and tensions rise between the two.
“I’m not normal, I’m a damaged trailer park teen mom murderer,” Georgia exclaims at one point.
While Maxine still appears mad at Ginny for hiding her relationship with her twin brother from her, Ginny and Marcus’ romance is back on despite the “mistake” comment he made in the Season 1 finale.
“You make sense to me,” Marcus tells Ginny but also adds, a little ominously,...

The second season of Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia starring Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey will premiere on January 5, 2023. Series creator/executive producer Sarah Lampert told Netflix’s Tudum that fans can expect the new season to pick up just a few weeks after season one left off.
“We spent all of season one breaking these characters down and putting them in certain places,” explained Lampert. “So, we wanted to honor that by picking up season two just two weeks later. We jumped right back into where we emotionally left everyone at the end of season one.”
The premiere date announcement was accompanied by a batch of photos from the 10-episode second season.

Netflix has set January 5 for the Season 2 premiere of Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry. The streamer also released some first-look photos of the upcoming season, which shed some light on what happens after the Season 1 finale cliffhanger that saw Ginny and her little brother on a motorcycle, leaving town after she discovers that her mom had poisoned her stepfather.
The photos (you can launch the gallery above), indicate that Ginny (Gentry) and her brother return home. The expectation was that they fled to Ginny’s father Zion in Boston, which still could be the case as a photo has Zion confronting his ex in the family kitchen. Ginny also is back with her friends at school and shares a moment with her on-again off-again love interest Marcus, while Georgia (Howey) is seen embracing her fiancé Paul.

Exclusive: FremantleMedia North America is assembling a new scripted programming team. I’ve learned that former Lionsgate TV and Gk-tv executive Craig Cegielski has been tapped as Evp Scripted Programming and Development. He’s being joined by Playtone’s Stefanie Berk, who is expected to serve as Svp Scripted. FremantleMedia has been without a scripted team since February when Svp Tony Optican’s contract was not renewed and VP Holly Hines left to head scripted development and production for Participant Media’s new cable network Pivot. Veteran TV exec Cegielski most recently served as president of Graham King’s Gk-tv, a post he left in January. There, he shepherded Camelot, the company’s series for Starz. Before that he served as Evp Programming and Sales, International TV, at Lionsgate. Prior to joining Lionsgate, Cegielski worked for CBS/Kingworld International, specializing in local production and programming. Berk comes from Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone,...

Pivot will launch August 1 with 40 million-plus subscribers and feature more than 300 hours of original programming in its first year. The cable network was hatched in December after film producer Participant Media acquired the Documentary Channel and then the distribution assets of emerging cable net Halogen TV. The plan is to target millennials via Participant’s brand of socially relevant entertainment — its film credits include An Inconvenient Truth, Food Inc, The Help, Lincoln and Promised Land — catering to adults 18-34. Among the greenlighted series announced today at the network’s upfront presentation in New York is a live nightly talk show, a variety show from Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brian Graden, a docu-talk series from Meghan McCain, and the drama Will from Craig Pearce (The Great Gatsby). Last month, the network hired FremantleMedia North America exec Holly Hines as Svp Scripted Programming. “Over the past 9 1/2 years, through 43 films, Participant has built a...

Exclusive: Tony Optican is leaving FremantleMedia North America after a four-year stint as head of the company’s scripted programming division. I hear his contract was up and was not renewed. Fmna is already looking for a replacement for Optican as well as for VP scripted development Holly Hines who just left to head scripted development and production for Participant Media’s new cable network. Under Optican, Fmna landed one series on the air, TBS’ dramedy Wedding Band, which was recently cancelled after one season. Fmna gets a co-producer credit on the CW/Warner Bros. TV pilot The Tomorrow People as the original format is part of its catalog. Mining that catalog for scripted Us series will likely be among the priorities for Optican’s successor. Before joining Fmna, Optican was Svp of original programming at Sci Fi Channel and VP of current programming at Fox.

American Idol and The X Factor producer FremantleMedia North America is beefing up its scripted development team with the hire of Holly Hines as VP Scripted Development. In the newly created position, Hines will be involved in developing new scripted projects for the company, reporting to Tony Optican, Svp Scripted Programming. The appointment comes on the heels of Fmna landing a series order from TBS for the hourlong The Wedding Band starring Brian Austin Green, Harold Perrineau and Melora Hardin, which is slated to premiere later this year. Hines comes to FremantleMedia from Fuse, where she was director of development and original series, overseeing all scripted programming. Before that, she served as manager of development for TLC, where she oversaw over 100 hours of unscripted programming; and as manager of development at Bull’s Eye Entertainment, where she was involved in the TV series Crash for Starz and Angela’s Eyes for Lifetime.
