In May of 1984 Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird made indie comic history when they launched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles under Mirage Studios. The concept was meant to be a bit of a joking parody inspired by other titles of the day such as New Mutants, Ronin, and Daredevil. The off-beat property caught on and has since transformed into a monster that has secured itself in American pop culture and filled households with terms like, “Cowabunga” and “Turtle Power.” The original concept was very different from the marketable commodity, as any die hard fan of yore will tell you. I myself owned a copy of Tmnt #1 but I was too young at the time to understand what I held in my hand. When I finally aquire a time machine it is one of the first things I hope to rectify.

Way back in October 2009, we brought you the news that Leonardo, Donatello, and the rest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were getting a new animated series to go along with the planned feature film blending live action and CGI effects. Now it looks like the Heroes In A Half Shell will also return to their true roots with a brand new comic book series, too.
Idw Publishing and Nickelodeon recently announced plans for a new series that will kick off this August and feature a creative team led by Tmnt co-creator Kevin Eastman. While the first story arc will introduce a brand new villain to the Tmnt universe — a mutant alley cat named "Old Hob" — all the regulars will also play a role in the rebooted Tmnt adventures.
In the official announcement of the comic book series, there's also mention of a new premiere date for the upcoming CGI...

Idw Publishing has announced the creative team on its new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic. The 32-page colour comics will be penned by Tmnt creator Kevin Eastman and editor Tom Waltz with art by Eastman and Dan Duncan, and will establish an entirely new continuity rather than tying into the upcoming Nickelodeon television series. "I guess if I were going to describe it, I'd say what we are doing with the Turtles is very similar to what Marvel did with the Avengers in the Ultimates," Waltz told Comics Alliance. "We are striving to tell beloved classic tales in new and exciting ways, while never losing sight of what's come before. (more)...

This past weekend saw the All Tomorrow’s Parties music and film festival head up to Monticello, New York. Criterion alum, Jim Jarmusch, curated the music for the festival, which saw the likes of Sonic Youth, Iggy and the Stooges, and Explosions In The Sky take the various stages. If you had some down time between bands, you could spend some time watching 22 films that Criterion brought with them for the festival.
As we’ve previously highlighted, Criterion commissioned several independent comic book artists to create movie posters for all of the films. We’ve already shown you the posters for Brute Force, Touchez Pas Au Grisbi, and Night of the Hunter, and have been eagerly awaiting some images of the various other posters.
Today on their Facebook page, Criterion took a snapshot of the entire line-up, which I’m embedding below:
