Norwegian pianist Rune Alver carefully unfolded the brittle sheet music and began caressing the keys of the baby grand. He had found the classical piece buried in an archive and believed it hadn’t been heard in maybe a century. But as he delved into the second section, Cantando, he felt a shiver run down his spine. The melody wasn’t just reminiscent of something he’d heard before — it was iconic. He instantly recognized the unforgettable, yearning opening notes of “Over the Rainbow,” the Academy Award-winning anthem Judy Garland performed in The Wizard of Oz, perhaps the most famous song to come out of Hollywood. How could this be? The sheet music was dated 1910, and The Wizard of Oz premiered nearly 30 years later. But the melody hung there (“Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high …”). It was hauntingly similar. Too similar, he thought.

David Beckwith, the veteran publicist whose crowning achievement was his work representing Elvis Presley’s Graceland museum since it opened more than four decades ago, has died. He was 67.
Beckwith died Friday in Phoenix after his hip replacement surgery was followed by sepsis, fellow publicist Lynn Weiss announced.
Beckwith for many years also represented Wolfgang Puck, his annual Governors Ball dinner at the Academy Awards and Spago. With the chef and agent Swifty Lazar, he arranged a fine dinner at Spago for industry heavyweights who were not at the Oscars, complete with a large-screen TV for them to watch the show.
When Presley’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, was first opened to the public in July 1982, Beckwith helped manage the 700-plus members of the media there for the opening news conference with Priscilla Presley. He continued his work with Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises until his death.

You may not know Amber Nash's name, but if you're a fan of edgy animated comedies for grownups, you almost certainly know her voice.
Amber's acting credits include such beloved series as Frisky Dingo, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and, most notably, Archer -- the bonkers FX spy sitcom, on which she portrayed fan favorite Pam Poovey for 14 seasons.
And as 2023 comes to a close, Amber is entering an exciting new phase in her career.
Archer is wrapping up its historic run on Sunday with a three-part series finale, and Nash recently starred in her first feature film, the hilariously risqué Christmas comedy How to Ruin the Holidays, currently streaming on Prime Video.
We caught up with Amber for a wide-ranging conversation that touched on her long involvement in the world of animated sitcoms, the portrayal of developmentally disabled adults on screen, and whether or not the band Toto deserves their reputation as a one-hit-wonder.

Cannibalism has emerged as the genre du jour in horror. With the success of last year’s Fresh and Bones and All as well as the second season of Yellowjackets finally digging into the human flesh, everyone seems to be exploring this taboo topic. From nightmare survival scenarios to narcissistic serial killers, these films follow humans or humanoid monsters who consume human flesh in one way or another. Some butcher and cook the meat, while others eat it from the bone, but all cannibal films offer a window into a world of depravity and a fascinating blend of horror and revulsion. We not only fear being eaten ourselves, but we often find ourselves imagining what the meat would taste like should we dare (or be forced) to take a bite.
Films about cannibals may seem like a rare delicacy, but a closer look reveals that the pickens are not so slim.

Tashkent (Uzbekistan), May 5 (Ians) Asian and Commonwealth games bronze medallist Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg) and Naveen kumar (92kg) progressed to the pre-quarter finals of the Iba Mens World Boxing Championships 2023, here on Friday.
In the round of 32 bout, Hussamuddin was facing China’s Lyu Ping. The southpaw from India displayed his swift movement and intelligence to throw a combination of punches in the first round and gain momentum.
After winning the first round unanimously, Hussamuddin upped the ante in the next round and took the initiative to land heavy blows on his opponent while dodging Lyu’s punches. The Chinese boxer couldn’t match the speed and intensity of Hussamuddin and eventually lost the bout 5-0. He will next take on Russia’s Savvin Eduard in the pre-quarterfinal on Sunday.

In a previous article, I made the plea for "King of the Hill" to help us make sense of all the modern-day madness. If only Hank and the gang from Arlen, Texas, could return to the present day for more antics. Ask and we shall receive, as the long-rumored "King of the Hill" reboot is finally official!
When Mike Judge and Greg Daniels came up with the concept for "King of the Hill," Bill Clinton was president and the internet was in its infancy. My how things changed. But even during the show's initial 13-year run, we experienced the fall of the World Trade Center, the rise of social media, tsunamis, hurricanes, and all kinds of social upheavals in between. Through it all, the characters from "King of the Hill" stayed the same. It was their consistency that made the show so darn appealing. And it was no accident. The...

King of the Hill is coming back to TV, thanks to a Hulu revival, with most of the original cast returning — but there’s one character who’s conspicuously missing.
Hank, Peggy, Bobby, Bill, Dale and Boomhauer will all be back and voiced by the same actors from the original 1997-2009 Fox run of the animated comedy. Hank’s niece Luanne is understandably absent, since Brittany Murphy tragically passed away in 2009. But Hank’s nemesis Kahn, the status-chasing Laotian dad who moved in next door, is nowhere to be found in the revival. And there’s an obvious reason why: Kahn was an Asian character,...

"The Simpsons" is noteworthy for a number of reasons, not least because it's seemingly been on the air since pretty much the dawn of time. One of the things that the long-running animated sitcom has become most known for, of course, is collecting an incredible and eclectic stable of celebrity guest stars, including the likes of Albert Brooks, Patrick Stewart, Mel Brooks, and John Waters.
As part of Fox's Sunday night lineup for years, it was always inevitable that "King of the Hill" would not only draw comparisons to Matt Groening's show, but also face the pressure to duplicate its success both in terms of ratings and when it comes to bringing in celebrities to lend their voices to the fictional world of Arlen, Texas.

Jason Momoa has been acting since 1999 when he first donned those iconic red swim trunks on TV’s Baywatch: Hawaii as a beardless 19-year-old. It took a lot of roles before the Hawaiian-born Aquaman actor got his big break as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones. While he’s often typecast as something of a brute, the actor best known for maiming folks with his sword is ready for his comedic debut in Netflix’s fantastical family-friendly film, Slumberland.
So it’s the perfect time to look back at a TV and movie career that’s benefited just as much from Momoa’s offscreen charm as it has from his considerable time in the gym. Momoa’s most admirable use of his fame just might be the way he uplifts and inspires indigenous communities across the world. Momoa gives viewers an awful lot to love about his characters, even when...

Despite being a classic American animated sitcom, "King of the Hill" often goes unsung, its humble ambition obscuring the depth of its wit. The show produced 13 seasons of warm, funny television with a handful of familiar formulas, but it also had the guts to forgo formulas and produce outstanding episodes.
In a way, its low-key eccentricity was one of its biggest virtues. The more you knew Hank Hill (Mike Judge) and his community of family, friends, and co-workers in Arlen, Texas (which was based on a real town), the richer the show became. Seeing the guys drink Alamo beer in their neighborhood alley for the show's theme song every episode gave the show a real sense of life, where you get to know characters not just through gags but through observation.
That sense of life meant the show could be much drier than contemporaries like "Family Guy" or "The Simpsons" but just as funny.
