Marin County, Calif. – James “Jamie” Redford was on a righteous mission. The activist filmmaker created documentaries that spoke of the ills society is facing, including “Toxic Hot Seat” (chemicals in households), “Paper Tigers” (childhood psychology), “Resilence” (a deeper dive into Adverse Childhood Experience) and his recent “Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution.” Jamie Redford died of bile duct cancer on October 16th, 2020, at his home in Marin County, California. He was 58.

Throughout his life he fought health issues, and was diagnosed with sclerosis cholangitis while in college, which led later to two liver transplants in the early 1990s. As a result, his father founded the James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness. Also along with his father, Jamie co-founded The Redford Center, which uses impact-driven film and media to accelerate environmental and climate justice.

James Redford, documentary filmmaker, activist and the son of Robert Redford, has died of complications from bile-duct cancer, his wife Kyle Redford told The Salt Lake Tribune. James Redford died Friday at his home in Marin County, CA. He was 58.
In a Twitter post Friday, Kyle Redford wrote “Jamie died today. We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life & was loved by many. He will be deeply missed. As his wife of 32 [years], I’m most grateful for the two spectacular children we raised together. I don’t know what we would’ve done [without] them over the past 2 [years].”
James Redford had been diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, a rare auto-immune disease affecting the liver and received two liver transplants in 1993. The distributor has acquired North American rights to the documentary by Robert Redford’s son James Redford, set to debut today in the Documentary Premieres strand.
The Kpjr Films selection explores Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces) and the effects of toxic stress on children. Karen Pritzker produced.
Brainstorm Media has also picked up Resilience companion film and predecessor Paper Tigers for DVD and digital release in North America.
Redford and Pritzker also collaborated on that film, about a school headmaster who changes the institution’s policy on discipline after he discovers Aces to be the cause of truancy and bad behaviour.
