Often in cinema, and certainly in the documentary format, there is an expectation that is projected onto audiences, of an unashamed desire for conflict. Perhaps aided by the rise in True Crime mini-series on the likes of Netflix, with a popularity that suggests a thirst for morbidity amongst viewers. But there is something to be said about simply delving into the life of an inherently good-hearted, affable (and unproblematic) subject. On this occasion the aforementioned individual is former footballer Jermain Defoe, who hung up his boots in 2022 after a decorated and illustrious career, scoring goals, and a lot of goals at that, for both club and country.
Directed by James Ross, there’s an in-built affection here for his subject, as we follow Defoe in his life post-retirement, as he, like all other ex-pros, must mould a new path for himself, be it in the sport, with opportunities in punditry and coaching,...

London, May 1 (Ians) Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Fulham.
City’s eighth consecutive league win followed their 4-1 home victory over Arsenal on Wednesday and lifted them one point ahead of Arsenal, who will face Chelsea at home on Tuesday.
On Sunday, Pep Guardiola’s side took an early lead when Erling Haaland smashed home his 50th goal of the season from the penalty spot after Tim Ream fouled Julian Alvarez. Fulham showed considerable resilience and equalized thanks to Carlos Vinicius in the 15th minute.
Alvarez scored what turned out to be the winning goal with a stunning shot outside the box, a Xinhua report said.
Newcastle United remained third, with a nine-point cushion over fifth, after coming back from 1-0 down at home to bottom-of-the-table Southampton.

London, April 26 (Ians) The Premier League sees three vital matches on Thursday night which will have a huge influence on both Europe and the battle to avoid relegation.
Ryan Mason returns to the Tottenham dugout in a caretaker role for his side’s key home game against Manchester United.
Mason was named as Spurs coach until the end of the season after the previous caretaker Cristian Stellini was sacked in the wake of Sunday’s 6-1 debacle away to Newcastle United.
That result dropped Tottenham six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with Aston Villa’s win on Tuesday seeing them slip to sixth. With Brighton and Liverpool threatening, they run the very real risk of not playing in Europe next season, a Xinhua report said.
Manchester United still has a long injury list and Luke Shaw could have to cover in central defense, as he did in their Fa Cup semi-final on Sunday.

London, April 23 (Ians) Riyad Mahrez scored a hat-trick as Manchester City sailed past Sheffield United 3-0 in the Fa Cup semi-finals, making their quality count to end a good week where they also booked their place in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester City had 79 percent of the ball against the Championship promotion hopefuls, but Sheffield dug in and defended bravely until Mahrez’s 43rd-minute penalty.
The Algerian doubled City’s lead 16 minutes into the second half after running clean through unchallenged, and completed his hat-trick five minutes later to assure the win, a Xinhua report said.
City will play the winner of Sunday’s semifinal between Brighton and Manchester United.

London, March 20 (Ians) Manchester United kept their hopes of winning three cup competitions alive after beating Fulham 3-1 in their Fa Cup quarter-finals, here.
The win comes after Erik Ten Hag’s side reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, but came after a dramatic last 15 minutes when Aleksandar Mitrovic powered Fulham ahead five minutes into the second half on Sunday night.
Fulham were the better side, but everything changed in the 72nd minute when Willian handled a goal-bound shot from Jadon Sancho on the goal-line and was sent off, with Mitrovic following him into the dressing room for his complaints, along with Fulham coach Marco Silva, a Xinhua report said.
Bruno Fernandes scored the resulting penalty and Marcel Sabitzer put United against nine-man Fulham in the 77th minute, before Fernandes scored a third for his side in the 96th minute.

London, March 19 (Ians) Erling Haaland scored his second hat-trick of the week as Manchester City cruised into the semifinals of the Fa Cup with a 6-0 home win over Burnley.
There had been controversy when City coach Pep Guardiola substituted Haaland with half an hour left in their 7-0 win over Rb Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek, but the Norwegian showed the wisdom of Guardiola’s decision with goals in the 32nd and 35th minutes on Saturday night.
He completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute, before his striker partner Julian Alvarez got in on the act with two goals and Cole Palmer also scored, a Xinhua report said.
Manchester United and Fulham, Brighton and Grimsby and Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers play the remaining quarterfinals on Sunday.

‘I May Destroy You’ Producer Various Artists Behind BBC Hen Do Comedy
I May Destroy You producer Various Artists Limited has been greenlit for a BBC Two comedy about a hen weekend that goes wrong. Henpocalypse!, from Hullraisers creator Caroline Moran, takes five women who headed out on a weekend of a lifetime to celebrate Zara’s engagement only to be interrupted by the end of the world. They subsequently have to wait it out in an isolated holiday cottage in Wales and, emerging from quarantine into the harsh new post-apocalyptic world, find the male population has almost entirely been wiped out. BBC Head of Comedy Tanya Qureshi described the show as “very funny with an incredible collection of women at the heart of it.” Various Artists was behind Michaela Coel’s smash hit I May Destroy You for the BBC and HBO and has also produced British comedies including Sally4Ever and Dead Pixels.

After weeks of waiting to hear of Arsene Wenger’s fate, surely this latest defeat is the time he tells the world what he has decided. For me it is clear, he must be calling it a day at Arsenal. He had the opportunity to confirm he was staying after the West Brom game a few weeks back. The fact he left the fans and media waiting by saying ‘I’ve made my decision’ was just a way of biding more time before the inevitable.
The 3-0 defeat at Palace surely is the result in which he answers the million dollar question. It’s all becoming a bit farcical at Arsenal. The icing on the cake was Walcott’s comment ‘We are back to our best’ after taking 60 minutes to break the deadlock against Premier League strugglers West Ham at home, to then lose at Selhurst Park. If players are...

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s introduction to St James’ Park life has been a harsh one – and it was his 16th-minute red card that ultimately forced Newcastle United on to the defensive and an eventual 1-0 loss against Arsenal.
Despite a magnificent defensive display from the Magpies – their second in succession – they succumbed to an unfortunate Fabricio Coloccini own goal, with an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cross-shot deflecting in off the unfortunate Toon skipper.
Left with 10 men following Mitrovic’s stamp on Francis Coquelin – which, although a tad harsh, was deserved because it was reckless and added to his two yellow cards earlier in the season – Newcastle fought bravely but simply could not hold out against an Arsenal side desperate to get their title challenge back on track.

When it was announced that Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud would be out until 2015 with an injury sustained against Everton; Gooners from all corners of the globe began either turning to God, tried positive thinking, wrote letters or began Googling the Good Samaritans helpline – all of these actions would’ve been born out of the realisation that Yaya Sanogo was going to being Arsenal’s main man in front of goal for the next four months.
Those fears were eased on Deadline Day, however, when Arsene Wenger pulled off a last minute £16million deal for Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck.
Welbeck, currently away on international duty with England, has faced criticism for his overall goalscoring record – 25 Premier League goals from 115 appearances (including his loan spell with Sunderland). With such an uninspiring average of nearly one goal every five games, there is a debate as...

Manchester United are protecting a record of only one loss in 13 against Arsenal in all competitions, the only blotch on the unbeaten record being a 1-0 home Arsenal win in May 2011.
The stats look worse for Arsenal taken historically as the Gunners have lost 20 times to their rivals in the Premier League, more so than any other team.

Arsenal are in talks with Spartak Moscow midfielder Kim Kallstrom after abandoning their pursuit of Julian Draxler, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners were hoping to sign Draxler but baulked at Schalke’s £37 million asking price for the 20-year-old.
The London club sent a delegation to Germany to try and thrash out a deal, which is thought to have fallen through after Schalke demanded a large percentage of the fee be paid up front.
And with Theo Walcott out for the season, along with Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ransey’s absences, Arsene Wenger is keen to add midfield reinforcements before tonight’s deadline.
Wenger has now switched his attentions to Kallstrom, and hopes that a move can be pushed through before the winter window slams shut at 23:00 GMT this evening.
The French manager said:

Arsenal avenged their opening day defeat and kept themselves top of the Premier League by winning at Aston Villa. Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud scored within a minute of one another, but the hosts fought back in the second half and pulled one back through Christian Benteke.
Paul Lambert can take solace from that improvement after the break, but several tactical changes – one enforced when defender Nathan Baker sustained a concussion – failed to bring about a favourable result.
Benteke’s goal drought ended, however, and that is another positive for the Villa Park faithful to take in the face of defeat. The Gunners meanwhile took to the field for the first time since losing Theo Walcott to a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Arsene Wenger was also without Mikel Arteta because of a calf strain, so he made three changes from their last Premier League outing.

Can Arsenal re-take top spot in the Barclay’s Premier League and avenge their 3-1 defeat earlier this season when they travel to Aston Villa on Monday?
Team News
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has injury concerns over Ron Vlaar and Nathan Baker ahead of the visit of Arsenal in the Premier League.
The duo are doubtful with calf and hamstring problems, respectively, but Brad Guzan and Gabriel Agbonlahor are back in contention following injury and Ciaran Clark is back from suspension.
Arsenal could welcome Oliver Giroud back in the side following the striker’s recovery from illness and injury while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is fit again following a long-term lay-off.
Thomas Vermaelen (knee) is a doubt and Theo Walcott will sit out the rest of the season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is plotting a £30 million double-swoop on Newcastle for defender Davide Santon and midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to the Mirror.
The Gunners failed with a £10 million bid for Cabaye last summer, but could revive their interest in the Frenchman this month, despite being told they must pay £22 million for his services.
Wenger has been hit by midfield problems recently, with Theo Walcott out for the rest of the season and fitness concerns over Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Abou Diaby also looks set to be offloaded at the end of the season, leaving Wenger with a spot to fill in central midfield.

The Arsenal boss also remains keen on Santon, after tracking the Italian full-back during his Inter Milan days prior to his move to St James’ Park this time last year.

Arsenal are the bookies favourite to sign out-of-favour former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba from Chelsea, according to SkyBet.
The Chelsea striker, who previously had spells at Newcastle United, West Ham United, and German side Hoffenheim is 2/1 to become an Arsenal player before the end of the transfer window, with Arsene Wenger desperate for striking cover following injuries to Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.
Ba has floundered since moving to the London outfit twelve months ago, following a successful stint at Newcastle, which saw him net 29 league goals in 54 appearances in his 18 months on Tyneside. He’s only managed 3 league goals in 22 league appearances, and has struggled to break into the side under new boss José Mourinho, making only 8 appearances in the league this season, and has been linked with a number of sides after falling behind the resurgent Fernando Torres and new...

Arsenal are understood to be keeping a keen eye on promising Italian striker Mattia Destro, according to press in Italy.
22-year-old Destro, the son of ex-footballer Flavio Destro, is rumoured to be on Arsene Wenger’s January wish-list of strikers as the Frenchman moves to avert a striking crisis at the Emirates Stadium, with Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott on the injury list.
An approach was reported to have been made to the player through his agent to see whether he’d be interested in swapping the Serie A for the Premier League high-fliers.
The As Roma striker has missed much of the early season through injury, but has scored 3 goals in 4 league games since returning. He’s been capped 4 times for the Azzurrini at international level as well, scoring against Malta in a World Cup qualifier in 2012. He’ll be looking to ensure he’s...

Arsenal target Paul-Georges Ntep appears to be on his way to the Emirates Stadium for talks after the Auxerre attacker posted a picture of his meal on the Eurostar on Instagram.
Caught Offside believes this signifies that the Cameroon-born France Under-21 international was travelling to London and specifically the Gunners. According to the Independent, Arsene Wenger has moved for Ntep because of his injury crisis up front.

Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner are all missing through injuries and illness. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain meanwhile is still rehabbing after knee surgery. That leaves Germany centurion Lukas Podolski and reserve team player Park Ju-Young as the only available senior forwards.
Wenger has reportedly been quoted a price of £8 million for Ntep, who is regarded as one of the hottest properties outside the French top flight. Arsenal are not alone in their interest in the 21-year-old,...

Arsenal have learned that talented German attacker Julian Draxler has a £40 million buyout clause in his contract with Bundesliga team Schalke 04.
The Daily Star Sunday reports that, rather than being put off by that figure, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to step up his interest in 20-year-old Draxler.
Injuries have depleted Arsenal’s attacking options over the Christmas and New Year period. Theo Walcott saw his season come to an end when he was stretchered off during the Fa Cup win over North London neighbours Tottenham Hotspur with knee ligament damage.
Draxler’s versatility appeals to Wenger. Jan Aage Fjortoft, who broke the news of the club record bid for Mesut Ozil over the summer, believes the Gunners will add another German to their ranks.

Arsenal were today handed a boost in their efforts to sign a new striker after Real Madrid revealed they are willing to listen to loan offers for Alvaro Morata, according to the Evening Standard.
The Gunners have been notified that the Spanish club is willing to loan the 21-year-old out until the end of the season – with no option to make the move permanent.
Arsenal had earlier placed Morata top of their January wishlist after a series of injuries robbed them of attacking options, with Theo Walcott now out for the season.
Nicklas Bendtner is also sidelined until February, making the need to bring in a new forward all the more urgent.
But after making an initial enquiry, Real delivered a hammer blow by insisting they had no interest in letting the Spain U-21 international leave the Bernabeu.

The announcement that Theo Walcott is sidelined for the next six months with injury is extremely bad news for both Arsenal and England. This means that Arsenal will be without a key player for the rest of their Premier League title challenge between now and the end of the season.
However, once the season ends there is an even bigger consequence as England will be without a key player as they go into battle in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. The Three Lions’ chances were already pretty bleak, but this certainly a bitter blow for Roy Hodgson as he prepares for the tournament.
Despite the fact that the World Cup is still a little way away, this slideshow is designed to explore some of the other options to replace Walcott’s in England’s squad. Readers of my work know that I don’t always like to...

A popular theory in English football at the moment is that Premier League leaders Arsenal are a little light up front. Their attacking options were compounded on Monday with the news that Theo Walcott would be out for six months following a knee injury in the Fa Cup win over Tottenham Hospur.
Aside from anything else, the news also meant Walcott will miss this summer’s World Cup in Brazil just as he was beginning to show a potency up front that was severely lacking from his game as a youngster.
A bigger problem that resulted in the injury to the England international was that the Gunners were left with French workaholic Olivier Giroud and ‘butt of many a joke’ Nicklas Bendtner as their main strikers. Germany’s Lukas Podolski provides some cover but has proved unconvincing in the central striking position when used there recently.

The January transfer window has opened up and for most it seems to be a nuisance as supposedly bigger clubs attempt to poach their players and simultaneously disrupt the flow of their season. Other more optimistically minded fans, and clubs see it as an opportunity to boost their team’s chances of reaching the season’s target by supplementing the squad with extra quality, though of course, investment at this stage can often be a detriment to stability.
The biggest danger in the winter window is buying duds at extortionate prices as selling clubs know that the short amount of time to secure deals works in their favour (hence the inevitable flurry of activity at the very tail-end of the window.)
Naturally, the Premier League’s clubs will have to weigh up whether they should be investing, in search of a push for the title,...

In one fell swoop, Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge and the hopes of England making an impression at the World Cup in Brazil this summer were dealt a hammer-blow by injury to Theo Walcott.
Gunners and Three Lions forward Walcott, 24, may have escaped punishment from the Fa for his reminding Tottenham Hotspur fans of the score in the North London derby when he was stretchered off, but it has since emerged that he ruptured his Acl. That means surgery and six months on the sidelines.
Arsene Wenger is now down to the bare bones in attack. Olivier Giroud has missed the first couple of matches in the New Year due to illness and an ankle knock. Nicklas Bendtner meanwhile has a similar injury that is expected to keep him out for the rest of January.

Arsenal survived an early scare when Christian Eriksen got in behind the home defence after Laurent Koscielny’s error. Lukasz Fabianski turned the shot behind from a tight angle on eight minutes.
Theo Walcott, leading the Gunners line, then forced Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris to tup his effort on the counter behind. Moments later, Vlad Chiriches deflected another attempt by the Arsenal forward off target. Serge Gnabry lashed over as the hosts had a strong spell.

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League thanks to Olivier Giroud’s second half glancing header in a tough examination at Newcastle United. The Toon more than matched Arsene Wenger’s team here, but lost at St James’ Park.
Both teams had spells in the ascendancy, but neither put together any meaningful goalmouth action early on. Moussa Sissoko’s tame back post header was easily fielded by Gunners goalie Wojciech Szcesny. Jack Wilshere then blazed over from 25 yards for Arsenal.
Santi Cazorla curled straight at Toon keeper Tim Krul on half an hour and Per Mertesacker screwed wide late on in a goalless first half. Cheick Tiote was in the thick of tussles for the hosts, who came closest in stoppage time.
First Sissoko forced Szczesny from long range and Mathieu Debuchy saw his header hit the underside of the bar from the resulting corner.

Newcastle United have not won a home game with Arsenal for over eight years. Nolberto Solano scored the winner and Gilberto Silva was sent off for the Gunners the last time the Toon vanquished this London opposition at St James’ Park.
This fixture tends to go one of two ways – it’s either a tight contest or a goal-fest. Two of the last five meetings have contained a 4-4 draw and 7-3 win at the Emirates for Arsenal.

Arsenal came from behind to continue their excellent record against West Ham and reclaim the Premier League’s top spot. Carlton Cole gave the Hammers the lead, but a brace from Theo Walcott and a Lukas Podolski strike turned things around.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce showed his disappointment with his team’s defeat away at Manchester United by making four changes. Guy Demel, Modibo Maiga, Ravel Morrison and Matthew Taylor all made way as Carlton Cole, Joe Cole, skipper Kevin Nolan and Joey O’Brien came in.
The Gunners fielded ten of the same starting XI that played out a bore draw with Chelsea on Monday – a result which saw them lose top spot. Santi Cazorla replaced the injured Tomas Rosicky in the only alteration made by Arsene Wenger.

Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Chelsea played out a cautious draw at the Emirates as Jose Mourinho extended his unbeaten record against Arsene Wenger. Two points now separate the top five with both the Gunners and the Blues firmly in the title race.
A cagey and tactical first half saw Chelsea create the better openings. Two Blues Brazilians combined as Ramires nodded over from a Willian centre. Frank Lampard then volleyed against the underside of the bar when Eden Hazard’s fine ball over the top put him in.
Hosts Arsenal wanted a penalty ten minutes before half time when Theo Walcott went down in the box under the challenge of Willian. Referee Mike Dean waved away appeals, however. Willian also worked Wojciech Szczesny as the interval approached.
Ramires lunged in on Mikel Arteta in the second half on a slick, wet pitch, so match official Dean...

Southampton has certainly been one of the stories of the Premier League season so far, being placed ninth in the league this season is certainly a fine achievement. However, their form and fine defensive record is far from the only reasons to love the club. It’s more for the thing they do that seems all so rare amongst Premier League football clubs these days, which is of course giving English players a chance.
It’s a system they are well accustomed to due to having an excellent academy system is place that has produced so many great players including Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alan Shearer. However, this slideshow isn’t about players from the academy as I have already covered that topic.
Instead, we are looking ahead to the World Cup in Brazil and thinking about which players might make the final cut. In my opinion,...

A packed Etihad crowd was treated to nine goals as Manchester City hit Arsenal for six. Sergio Aguero, restored to the City line-up by Manuel Pellegrini, got the ball running before later being subbed as a precaution.
Theo Walcott then netted a deflected equalizer, but the other City striker Alvaro Negredo restored the hosts to a half time lead. Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho bagged a brace after the break with David Silva’s close range finish sandwiched between them.
Gunners winger Walcott also pulled on back as the scoreline changed as follows: 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 5-2. Arsene Wenger’s Premier League leaders saw their advantage over City cut to three points despite a stoppage time consolation from Per Mertesacker.
Yaya Toure rounded the scoring off by converting a penalty at the death. Arsenal were not without casualties either. Defender Laurent Koscielny was stretchered off in the first half of this all-action encounter.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger conceded his side’s crushing 6-3 defeat to Manchester City was “difficult to swallow” as his side missed the opportunity to move 8 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
The Gunners could have asserted control at the top and would have been 9 points clear of their hosts with a win, but goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a brace from Fernandinho consigned them to a damning defeat.
The frustrated Arsenal boss said in his post-match press interview:
“We had an opportunity to put Manchester City at 9 points [adrift] and they are three [behind] tonight, so, that’s very difficult to swallow because they [City] weren’t unbeatable today.”
The Gunners scored three times with Theo Walcott helping himself to a double and Per Mertesacker heading in late on, but even that wasn’t enough to stop a rampant City,...

Manchester City put six past Arsenal in a high-octane encounter to continue their undefeated run at home and move to within three points of the Premier League leaders.
Theo Walcott scored twice to give the visitors a chance and Per Mertesacker headed a third, but goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a brace from Fernandinho blew Arsene Wenger’s side away.
The Gunners could have opened an eight-point lead at the top of the table this evening but that never looked likely as it took Aguero just 14 minutes to break the deadlock, firing in from close range following Martin Demichelis’ headed flick-on.
Walcott levelled the scores when his shot into the ground deceived Demichelis and Costel Pantilimon 15 minutes later but Negredo ensured the home side went into half time in front after stabbing in Pablo Zabaleta’s cross.

Arsenal simply need to avoid a three-goal defeat in Naples to secure qualification to the Champions League knockout stages. Only a win for Napoli is enough else they will have to settle the Europa League.
The Gunners can guarantee they top Group F with a point against Rafa Benitez’s side. Arsene Wenger already has a home win over Napoli to his credit in the reverse fixture on matchday two. Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud were on target for Arsenal that night on 1 October with early goals.
Team News
Benitez is sweating on the fitness of on-loan goalkeeper Pepe Reina after he missed Napoli’s 3-3 weekend draw with Udinese because of an unspecified muscle problem. Swiss utility man Valon Behrami, once of West Ham, is also doubtful. Slovakia national skipper Marek Hamsik is definitely out for the hosts with a foot injury.

Gerard Deulofeu came off the Everton bench to give Roberto Martinez a hard fought point at Arsenal. The Gunners went ahead through Mesut Ozil’s scrappy strike, but were quickly pegged back and lead the Premier League by five points.
Arsenal and Everton rather cancelled one another out right from the get go meaning clear cut chances were rare. Santi Cazorla’s cross evaded Kieran Gibbs midway through a tense first half, but the Toffees had much more possession without hurting their hosts.
Jack Wilshere only got in behind the visiting defence by straying offside as the Gunners cranked up their intensity before the break. Tim Howard then came smartly off his line to deny first Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey.
Both were straightforward saves, but enough to give the Emirates Stadium crowd something to cheer. Some nifty footwork from Ozil after the break had Sylvain Distin on the deck,...

Arsenal have been told to forget about signing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in January, but boss Carlo Ancelotti hinted the player could be available in the summer, according to the Metro.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with the 21-year-old starlet in recent weeks, with Morata struggling to get playing time at the Bernabeau, behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in the pecking order.
That had given Arsenal hope of signing the Spain international, but Madrid boss Ancelotti says he’s going nowhere – for the time being, at least.
He said:
“Morata stays because we need him. It’s true that he has not played many games but we have every confidence in him.
“It could be at the end of the season that he is not happy and we can think about letting him go but we need him now.”

Over the past few seasons Arsenal have become infamous for allowing their players’ contracts to run down and as a result they have found themselves in many a sticky situation when they come to renewing their deals.
It has happened several times down the years with numerous top players, the most recent of which is Robin van Persie, who ran his deal down to one year and then cashed in on his position with the club to earn himself a move to Manchester United.
This naive strategy from manager Arsene Wenger and the hierarchy at the club has led to the downfall of several of its stars, and has attracted widespread criticism from the fans.
The club have at least temporarily stemmed the flow of such occurrences, with their young British talent all signing long term deals with the Gunners. This includes Theo Walcott, who before signing...
