Conan O’Brien brought his 28-year career in late-night television to a close with a sweet list of thank yous, bringing an end to his linear small-screen career that has consisted of over 4,000 hours of TV.
Much like his final episode of The Tonight Show, he brought on Will Ferrell, via Zoom, as well as Jack Black as his final in-studio guest for his eponymous TBS show.
The hour-long finale started with a bang with his old friend Homer Simpson.
The cold-open was a skit from The Simpsons, which O’Brien previously wrote for, and started with Homer saying, “Oh my god, you’re one of the Impractical Jokers”. When an animated Conan stresses he was a talk-show host, the nuclear worker replies, “Ah, a dying breed. There’s only like 800 of you left”.

When then-Turner Entertainment president Steve Koonin pitched Conan O’Brien on launching a show at TBS, he was upfront with the host: We won’t be able to deliver you an audience as big as the one you had at NBC. But you can do whatever you want.

But ‘you can come here and it’s your playpen, and we’ll leave you alone.’ And they did. And to this day they have, even after Steve left [in 2014].”

"I know what you guys are thinking: 'Hey, it's the guy from Twitter,'" joked Conan O'Brien, before launching into a mock-impression of his Internet fans. "Why am I doing that!" he began laughing. "Those people saved my ass! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you."
Indeed, a strong Internet following fed Conan, who debuted his new show last night on TBS, very well. Bolstered by his almost 2 million Twitter followers, a first-of-its-kind social media strategy, and an innovative digital team, Conan soared on the late-night scene with huge ratings, besting both David Letterman and arch-nemesis Jay Leno with 4.2 million viewers. What's more, in the coveted 18-49 demo--the same demo that's probably watching his YouTube videos and checking in for his Foursquare badges--Conan drew a massive 3.3 million adults.
“Conan’s audience has been very vocal online, and he clearly made a smooth transition from Twitter to TBS,” said Steve Koonin,...

And all across the Coco Nation, there was much rejoicing, because for one night at least, their hero had vanquished the dread Peacock.
TBS says the "Conan" premiere drew 4.15 million viewers Monday night (Nov. 8), which will likely put the show ahead of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (NBC hasn't released viewer numbers yet; see the metered-market comparison below). The premiere also scored a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49, better than a number of shows that aired in network primetime (including all of NBC's lineup).

New York -- TBS is launching a tongue-in-cheek "for your consideration" Emmy advertising campaign for Conan O'Brien, who launches his talk show on the Turner network on Nov. 8.
"Give this man one more thing to tweet about," one of the ads says next to a picture of O'Brien.
Another says O'Brien deserves to be considered for "outstanding achievement in the use of Spf 150."
O'Brien has been on a comedy tour his his "Tonight Show" run on NBC came to an end a few months ago.
TBS doesn't seem to mind where he previously strut his comedic stuff. "Conan's great work in 2009 and 2010 deserves Emmy consideration," said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks.

Hoping August's Emmy Awards are a bit more awkward than usual this year? So is TBS. In an act that can only be described as full-on taunting, the network has taken out a series of "For Your Consideration" ads for The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien with the hopes of landing O'Brien an Emmy nomination and placement on the NBC telecast. "Conan's great work in 2009 and 2010 deserves Emmy consideration. We're very excited to have him join TBS later this year," said Turner Entertainment Networks president Steve Koonin, presumably with a massive, sh*t-eating grin. The ads make no mention of NBC -- or Jay Leno -- but they do make jokes about Coco's skin and Twitter following. So there's that. Take a look after the jump.

Beginning today, print ads touting his hosting time on The Tonight Show will debut in Hollywood trade publications as well as Entertainment Weekly and the Los Angeles Times to help O’Brien score a nod when the nominations come out July 8. From your new friends at TBS.” The other includes a picture of O’Brien with the words, ”Give this man one more thing to tweet about.”

Conan O'Brien opened the much-anticipated TBS-TNT upfront presentation in New York today with yuks about NBC (“The plot to Lost is more plausible than my last year at NBC”) and his new talk show that will debut on TBS on Nov. 8. “I really believe in cable television,” O’Brien told the crowd at the Hammerstein Theatre. “ I do not want to live in a country with less than five ESPN networks.”
He didn’t reveal anything about his new show, which will serve as a lead-in to the second season of George Lopez, but he did joke about what he’d like to accomplish.

New York -- A Conan O'Brien video followed by a stage appearance of the late-night comedy star opened the TBS and TNT upfront presentation here Wednesday.
Among other things, O'Brien joked that the plot of "Lost" is more plausible than what happened to him at NBC and sang "On the road again" with lyrics soon changed to say "(I want) My own show again."
The O'Brien video package started off with a black screen and the words "One month ago."
Then the comic was shown lying on the floor surrounded by pizza and beer, with a half-eaten pizza slice on his belly.
The phone rang, and O'Brien picked up. "Hello, job!?...No, there is no Debbie here."
Once he got up, he revealed a big belly and an empty mailbox.
Music starts playing, and it is "All by myself."
We then see O'Brien jumping on a trampoline in his garden.

A pair of cable networks could finally upstage broadcast’s Big Four during TV’s traditional upfront week in New York during the week of May 17. Though TBS and TNT (which, like EW, are owned by Time Warner) began staging a programming presentation for advertisers in 2008, the cable nets have a lot more to crow about this year—starting with TBS’ new 11 p.m. talk show starring Conan O’Brien that will bow in November. Given the reach of TBS and TNT, upfront week shouldn’t be limited to just the broadcast nets, argues Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks.

Conan O'Brien's dream was to host the Tonight Show, which he called "the greatest television franchise of all time" -- but a guy is better off with the girl next door rather than the prom queen. The prom queen is usually a prude and the girl next door is the closet freak who lets you do anything you want with her. "He can do whatever he wants to do here," Steve Koonin, the president of Turner Entertainment Networks, told Entertainment Weekly. "We had a great proposition. We have a great environment, we are young, we are a branded comedy network." O'Brien's lead-in on TBS will be Family Guy, compared with network evening news at his old home. You know who watches network evening news? Old people. Old people who probably aren't into Conan O'Brien. O'Brien's fans wondered if his...
