Having all but disappeared from view after starring in the four-season run of Prison Break – the Resident Evil franchise notwithstanding – Wentworth Miller is now re-emerging into the spotlight as a talent with many strings to his bow. The most intriguing of those strings is screenwriting, which he will next demonstrate with the adaptation of the French thriller, With A Friend Like Harry – originally titled Harry, He’s Here To Help for its French release.
The original film – released in 2000 – was written and directed by Dominick Moll, with Gilles Marchand as co-writer, and Laurent Lucas, Sergi Lopez and Mathilde Seigner in the lead roles. The story – as will be presented in this Us remake – sees a man named Harry approach a put-upon man at a rest-stop, claiming to be his former high-school classmate. He gives convincing detail and information to support his story but, over time, his fixation with the man takes a sinister turn,...

The first trailer for director James Ponsoldt’s (Smashed) drama The Spectacular Now has been released online. The film premiered to wildly positive reviews at Sundance earlier this year, and stars Miles Teller as a young high school student who strikes up a friendship with a fellow student (Shailene Woodley) as graduation and some big life decisions loom closer. I loved the film when I saw it at Sundance, and you should definitely go see it. Please take my word on this, because the trailer will take you through the entire movie. If you can't take my word, then go ahead and watch the trailer, but consider yourself warned. Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster, and click here to watch Steve's interview with Teller and Woodley from Sundance. The film also stars Brie Larson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Kyle Chandler. The Spectacular Now opens on August 2nd.

Following up last year’s exceptional Smashed, which debuted at Sundance and came away with a much-deserved Special Jury Prize, James Ponsoldt has returned to the festival this year with The Spectacular Now.
The film had its world premiere on Friday night out in Park City, and has been earning very promising early reviews, which is exactly what we’d expect from Ponsoldt.
And as a measure of just how promising the reactions have been, A24 have already acquired its North American distribution rights, within days of the film’s premiere.

With post-production only beginning in late August, it might be too much of a rush job for James Ponsoldt to make it three for three at Sundance in 2013. His sophomore feature Off the Black (Sundance 06′) was followed up with/by Smashed, (in personal top 5 from last year’s edition) which paid off huge dividends for the filmmaker as he then lensed The Spectacular Now, a gig written by 500 Days of Summer scribes Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Smashed lead) alongside Shailene Woodley, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brie Larson.

Kimberly Peirce ("Stop Loss," "Boys Don't Cry") is set to direct a remake of the 2000 French psychological thriller "With A Friend Like Harry" for Maven Pictures says Deadline.
The story centers on a family man, Michel, who is joined on vacation by an old schoolmate, Harry, whom he doesn’t remember.
At first Harry seems to be just what the family needs, but the friendlier he gets the more mysteriously menacing his effects become. Wentworth Miller is adapting the script.
Trudie Styler, Celine Rattray and Michelle Krumm will produce. Peirce is currently directing the remake of "Carrie".

DreamWorks has entered the WikiLeaks race by acquiring two books about the controversial website and its founder, Julian Assange. The studio picked up the rights to Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website by Daniel Domscheit-Berg, and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy, by David Leigh and Luke Harding.
Daniel Domscheit-Berg was an executive at WikiLeaks, who left the company after Julian Assange failed to display journalistic integrity. David Leigh and Luke Harding are reporters for the U.K. newspaper The Guardian, who helped Julian Assange with his early revelations. It is believed that DreamWorks are planning on making a WikiLeaks movie that explores several angles of the story, although a screenwriter hasn't been hired by the studio yet.

Four rival features about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange ain't enough for you? How about nine instead.
Deadline reports that several additional films about Assange are on the way to join the four previously announced ones. I'll start with the news ones and add the old ones.
Scribe Mark Boal ("The Hurt Locker") and producer Megan Ellison have optioned "The Boy Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest", a New York Times article by Bill Keller. Boal may write the film but is already busy for much of the rest of this year with his commitments to "Triple Frontier" and an untitled Middle East-set black ops thriller, both of which he is collaborating with "The Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow on.
This is to be based on the upcoming book Daniel Domscheit-Berg's "Inside Wikileaks". Domscheit-Berg is Assange's former 'Number Two' at the organisation who defected because he wanted to apply journalistic discretion...

WikiLeaks: The Movie. Alright, maybe not quite that dramatic, but there is a plan hatching to develop a feature film about The Most Dangerous Man in the World, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
In a world where a movie about the creation of Facebook has won some of the best reviews of 2010, a movie about Assange and his online creation suddenly starts to look attractive.
The genesis of the Assange biopic begins with Andrew Fowler's upcoming biography of the WikiLeaks founder, The Most Dangerous Man in the World. Fowler interviewed Assange several times last year and started putting together his non-fiction book after his subject's infamy with world governments rocketed high with the release of several thousand secret diplomatic cables. Assange has been the subject of a police investigation in Sweden concerning possible sexual crimes. He was released on bail and is awaiting the start of an extradition hearing scheduled for next month.

Following that film’s success and the current thirst to capitalise on contemporary news stories, it comes as no surprise to learn (via The Wrap) that a biopic of Julian Assange (the man who recently caused a near world-wide PR meltdown with site Wikileaks) is in the works.

Jullian Assange? WikiLeaks? Alex Gibney? Does that sound familiar? Does that make some sense?
Definitely yes, especially now, after Universal Pictures has acquired the documentary about WikiLeaks founder Assange that Oscar-winner director Alex Gibney will direct and produce.
But don’t get confused with this one, because this project has nothing to do with previously announced biopic about Assange…
So, Assange is quite impressive guy, indeed. At least because you can either love him, or hate him, there’s just no indifference (ok, I already see someone writing that “i” word, and that’s not nice!).
He’s the founder of the whistleblower organization WikiLeaks and responsible for the release of thousands of confidential government documents, thus causing an uproar in both the political world and the media world.
Leaks have ranged from “footage of an Apache helicopter’s firing fatally on journalists and civilians in Baghdad to last November...

Being one of the more polarizing public figures of the modern era kid of puts you on a fast-track to a movie about your life, either in the form of a documentary or biopic. But, if you’re extra special, like Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, you get both.
According to Deadline, the founder of the document-leaking, politician-infuriating organization has caught the attention of both Alex Gibney and Universal Studios, who’ve agreed to fund a documentary for him to direct. His past work, which includes Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer and Casino Jack and the United States of Money makes him a great fit for the headline-occupying material (I love hyphens!).

One of the first big pieces of news out of Sundance is that Universal will fund a documentary about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, directed by Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Casino Jack and the United States of Money). Together with the biopic of Mr. Assange that is about to go into development at a different company, that would make him quite the man of the moment -- if he hadn't already been the man of the moment thanks to the actions of WikiLeaks over the past months. [Update: Deadline [1] says that HBO is also developing a film about Mr. Assange. This one would be a co-production with the BBC based on Raffi Khatchadourian's June 7, 2010 New Yorker article [2] called No Secrets: Julian Assange’s Mission for Total Transparency.] More detail on each film after the break. Deadline [3] confirms the deal with Universal but isn't able to say whether...

Photo by Espen Moe.Film producers Barry Josephson and Michelle Krumm have optioned the rights to The Most Dangerous Man in the World, the forthcoming biography of WikiLeaks leader Julian Assange. Both book and movie are sure to contain a lucrative combination of intrigue, rebellion, politics, ambition, and betrayal. If touchscreen-to-big-screen really is the next filmmaking trend, what other Web sites might have cinematic stories? Some suggestions:...

One of last years most intriguing people was undoubtedly Julian Assange. Whether you thought was he was doing was right or wrong, there was no way you weren.t hearing about him and everything he.s allegedly done. To help pay for his ever mounting legal fees, Assange took a deal in which he would receive $1 million in exchange for his autobiography. There was a lot of controversy around this, as people immediately called him out for profiting on the secrets of the government and blah blah blah people complaining about stuff they don.t need to complain about. Anyway, another biography was written by Australian reporter Andrew Fowler called The Most Dangerous Man in the World, which THR says has been optioned - though that.s as far into the process they.ve gotten. Producers Barry Josephson and Michelle Krumm landed the deal, but they have hired no screenwriters,...

It has all the ingredients for a big-screen tale of intrigue and conspiracy: the plucky underdog vying to buck the system, sexual complications and powerful government forces with secrets to hide.
WikiLeaks: the Movie moved a step closer to reality yesterday after studio executives picked up the screen rights to the forthcoming Julian Assange biography The Most Dangerous Man in the World by award-winning Australian writer Andrew Fowler. Because what the man really needs is yet more publicity, someone has decided to start putting together a biopic of unnaturally pale WikiLeaks front man Julian Assange, which the producers are hyping up as “a suspenseful drama thriller.”Barry Josephson and Michelle Krumm have pooled their respective production companies’ resources to nab the film rights to Aussie reporter Andrew Fowler’s biography of Assange, The Most Dangerous Man in the World. The book will apparently offer a heavily-researched peek into Assange’s life from childhood to the present, including his founding of WikiLeaks in 2006 and the controversial storm he and his team stirred by releasing secret Us diplomatic documents, corporate info about toxic waste dumping and even some internal Scientology manuals. Frankly, you would think that last one would make him more afraid of a response than any legal claims.Talking of, he’s currently under house arrest in the UK,...
