A cocktail party so crazy you have to sign a waiver just to get in? I was intrigued. Intrigued enough to hop on the freeway a few miles up to a dark corner of North Hollywood to find the undisclosed home base of the web’s latest live-streaming reality show. Walking up to the three-story loft building it became clear this wasn’t going to be my run-of-the-mill Saturday night drinks at a friend’s place. Before entering the ControlTV loft, I’m hustled into a back room filled with producers and burly Pa types ushering me through a waiver and some ground rules. “Try to keep this PG-13,” said one of the younger producers on duty that night. “Just basically don’t drop the f-bomb too much.” She mentions the 30-second delay on the live stream they’ve set up just in case we get out of hand. And...

Monsters Movie PosterA second, more retro' poster is available for director Jason Horton's (Edges of Darkness) Monsters in the Woods. The film is almost a parody of independent filmmaking, as a low-budget film crew is hampered in their production by creatures from the dark. Also, this latest poster shows a female character pleading for help, with a dark hand approaching in blood reds and in shadows. Have a look at the poster for yourself from Zapruter Pictures.

You see? This is reason #89 while I will always remain a damned city boy. No matter how you slice it there is stuff happening deep within the woods that I want absolutely no part of! From inbred mutants to well, yes, monsters, you just never know what is gonna smack you in the face (thereby tearing it off and sending it sailing through the air) next.
Such is the case with Jason Horton's latest indie effort Monsters in the Woods starring Glenn Plummer (Speed, Saw 2, The Salton Sea), Lee Perkins (Live Evil, The Red Machine, Katiebird), Kristian Bernard (Ride or Die, Sugar Valentine, Vegas Vampires) and Annemarie Pazmino (Edges of Darkness, On Bloody Sunday, Small Town Saturday Night).

Director and writer Jason Horton completed his film studies at the University of New Orleans, while creating his own production company Zapruter Productions. His first feature was entitled Rise of the Undead released in 2005 and he followed up with the apocalyptic feature Edges of Darkness. Both of these films were in the horror genre, but Horton branched out this year to release the dramatic thriller Trap. Now, this director, producer, writer, promoter and most recently distributor takes some time off from this latest production Monsters in the Woods to talk about independent filmmaking and the hurdles of low budget film distribution. Have a listen as Horton talks candidly about being pressured to add creature effects into his latest reality based feature, Trap.

Director/writer: Jason Horton.
Trap is the latest film from both director Jason Horton (Edges of Darkness) and Zapruter Productions. Currently the film is looking for distribution and in the film Horton shows that he can change tones from action-oriented to drama. Trap is not horror like his previous production, Edges of Darkness, but more dramatic thriller. Also, Horton adds in an interesting, diverse soundtrack that might even involve the director singing!
The film was recently finished and the press release calls Trap "the newest thriller from director Jason Horton" (Trap). Yet, the film is mostly a dramatic feature with thriller elements. The story succintly involves a kidnapping of young vixen, Tennessee (Ashton Blanchard) who has developed a devilish charm at a very early age. One of the kidnappers falls for the captive and here things twist and turn, as characters Franklin (Alonzo F. Jones) and Walt (Allen Perada) have a falling out.

And then there’s Mark’s co-worker Cassandra Morrissey, a diligent hard-working It geek who is an unrepentant voyeur, using her It skills to spy on employees at home and work – including Mark. And don’t expect a tidy ending to Season One. These characters are just getting started!

Jason Horton, co-director and co-writer of the recently released zombie opus Edges Of Darkness, got in touch with news and an exclusive pic (see it below) from his new feature Trap. He describes the movie, which he scripted and helmed solo, as “a thriller following a brutal abduction that gets even worse when the middle-aged kidnapper falls for his 15-year-old victim.
“Trap is my third feature,” Horton tells us, “and it showcases my growth as a writer and director. Like my other movies, it doesn’t skimp on the violence, but it’s very character-based. I believe it is technically and creatively my strongest piece to date.”
The cast is headed by Alan Perada, Ashton Blanchard, Alonzo Jones and Annemarie Pazmino, and Horton’s Edges partner Blaine Cade co-edited with him and served as assistant director and production designer. Another Edges alumus, Robert Bravo, produced. “It’s his first solo gig in that capacity,...

We got an early teaser (above) of new thriller web series Compulsions, which is still in post-production. This one piqued our interest early, with a few notable web series names in the mix. Stars Craig Frank (The Crew, Private High Musical) and Annemarie Pazmino (Sorority Forever) are recognizable to web fans. And as of now, the only other announced cast member is Janna Bossier. A few other recognizable faces make an appearance but are being kept under wraps. The basic setup is that even completely normal people have hidden and often dark desires, or compulsions, that are kept inside and never acted upon. Of course it would be a lot more interesting to find out what would happen if they did act upon them. And that's where this series picks up. Three leads, three different compulsions. One of them is sadism. Writer-creator Bernie Su said they are "trying to push...
