On Saturday, an Ihop customer in Springfield, Illinois, felt compelled to share a sweet moment she witnessed between a waiter named Joe Thomas and a disabled customer.
“A man and disabled women were dining and your server sat down with them and proceeded to help feed the disabled woman while her companion enjoyed his food. Will Sharpe and Tom Kingsley direct an affecting, intelligent drama about a young guy whose stroppy yet lovable sibling vanishes
With their excellent 2011 comedy Black Pond, British film-makers Will Sharpe and Tom Kingsley became two of the youngest Bafta nominees in history. Now they are back with a movie of strangeness and charm, co-written by Sharpe with newcomer Tiani Ghosh: it is tonally elusive, its comedy credentials interestingly ambiguous. The film is disquieting and sad, hitting an eerie elegaic note for a loss that isn’t immediately comprehensible.
Sharpe plays Zac, a young guy whose exasperatingly stroppy yet lovable sister Alice (played by Ghosh) has gone off on a canal trip in the narrowboat where she had been living with her boyfriend Toby (Joe Thomas). Then the couple just vanished. At first Zac is frantic with worry, aggressive with the police officers who aren’t too fussed about yet another missing-person case; finally,...

As James Nesbitt, the host of this year’s Empire Awards, said this evening: ‘We don’t need Oscars – they’re just for phonies and scamps.’ That’s the sort of sentiment going around a particular corner of the capital tonight as the magazine hosts its awards ceremony in its 25th year of existence.

Inbetweeners stars Joe Thomas and Simon Bird have said that they fully expect to get complaints about historical inaccuracies in their new Sky1 sitcom Chickens.
Based around three hapless conscientious objectors during World War I, Chickens was piloted on Channel 4 before being snapped up for a full series by Sky.
Talking about the amount of historical detail they had included, the pair confessed that they may upset a few viewers with their artistic licence.
"There's a scene where they're playing Monopoly and Monopoly wouldn't have been invented but we just thought we will just put it in, so presumably it will kick off from that," said the duo.
"We will get complaints, that's the worst thing about it and then we're going to have to sit down at some point and send an e-mail and say, 'We know they didn't have computers'.
"That was the problem with Downton, wasn't it?...

Johnny Dynamo, a recently-debuted web series created by Dennis Mareno and Joe Thomas, has arguably been the biggest indie hit on YouTube since Convos With My 2 Year Old. Just nine days after its release, the first episode has already drawn nearly 400,000 views (though most of the comments are suspiciously similar, and ratings have been disabled, so who knows how many of those views are honest) . It's rare for an indie web series to have such a large view count; at the same time, it is hard to find many indie web series better than Johnny Dynamo. Johnny Dynamo stars Rick Wells as Robert Pierce Mitchell, a former action star whose career fell to ruin after he embarrassingly botched a rappelling stunt while promoting an upcoming movie. 25 years later, Mitchell is a bum living with his exasperated wife. After his story is retold on a local news station, three young TV...

Barry Humphries is to star in Sky1's comedy Chickens.
The star - best known for his comic creation Dame Edna Everage - will appear alongside show creators and stars Simon Bird, Jonny Sweet and Joe Thomas.
Chickens was originally aired as a pilot by Channel 4, but was later picked up to series by Sky after Channel 4 declined to order more episodes.
The First World War sitcom follows three men left behind in a world of women as the nation's heroes are fighting the good fight on foreign soil.
Humphries will play Mr Armstrong - headmaster at the local school - while Sally Phillips will also appear as village outcast Miss Trimble.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for three of the funniest and most talented men in the Northern hemisphere to work with me," quipped Humphries. "I am very proud of my young supporting cast, whose names I cannot remember at the moment.

Fresh Meat writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong have revealed that they didn't "censor" themselves when they were writing the script. The Channel 4 comedy, which stars Jack Whitehall and Joe Thomas, focuses on a group of students living together. "We were amazed nobody had revisited students since The Young Ones," Armstrong told The Daily Telegraph. "We always felt that Manchester was the right place [for the show], partly because it's so huge and you get all these different people from very different backgrounds." Bain and Armstrong acknowledged that there are some risqué moments in Fresh Meat but insisted that everything in the show is there for a reason. "One thing we don't do is censor ourselves," Bain said. "That's important. (more)...

The latest comedic creation from Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong is set to hit British airwaves this Fall as Channel 4 launches Fresh Meat. The show centers around the lives of college freshers as they upset their lecturers, party the night away and cause mayhem at home and on campus. Jack Whitehall takes on the role of Jp which Channel 4′s press team curiously describe as his “first dramatic role.” Perhaps he is the straight man? Kimberley Nixon, Joe Thomas, Greg McHugh, Zawe Ashton and Charlotte Richie make up the rest of the college crew while Robert Webb and Tony Gardner take on guest roles as college lecturers. The network have released details of the first four episodes but more will presumably follow if the show is well received.

The sitcom stars Bird, Inbetweeners co-star Joe Thomas and comedian Jonny Sweet as three young men who remain at home during the First World War. Channel 4 have announced that filming has begun in Manchester on their eight part young-adult comedy series Fresh Meat, the latest show from Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, the writers of Peep Show.
The 45 minute long episodes will follow six first-year University students who;
Away from home for the first time, on the brink of adult life, they are about to discover who they really are. From the moment they ship up as freshers at their shared house, their lives are destined to collide, overlap and run the whole gamut of appalling behaviour and terrible errors of judgment.
From the sounds of things it’s kind of Skins/Inbetweeners for an older crowd but from Bain and Armstrong we can expect something far more darkly sinister, I imagine. The movie is due to air later this year.
