[Note: With the film now out on DVD in the UK, here's a reposting of our review of White Space, aka Beyond White Space, from its Us VOD release back in January]
In space Moby Dick can hear you scream…
White Space introduces us to the idea of the titular “white space” and that is, areas of space that somehow have remarkable healing properties that they can imbue on anyone who passed into them (for some reason). The only problem is there are space leviathans that protect them (for some reason). Our opening scene takes us 20 something years into the past for us to see a boy lose his dad to the space monsters. So, revenge it is then.
We have Moby Dick in space, revenge for revenge’s sake as it were.

A Giant Alien Space Creature is Being Hunted Down in This Trailer For Sci-Fi Film Beyond White Space
I’ve got a trailer here for a cool-looking sci-fi film called Beyond White Space that follows a man hunting down a giant alien space creature and he’s looking for revenge.
It almost feels like a Moby Dick type story only it’s set in deep space. As the obsession to capture the giant creature grows, they find themselves traveling deeper and deeper into the dangerous unknown regions of space.
Here’s the story description:
2150 A.D. The Essex, a deep space fishing vessel for industry giant, AmberCorp, is ready to make its final harvest of the season. The ship brushes with a rare creature, mammoth in size and highly territorial. Could this be the same leviathan that killed Richard and Owen's father? To make matters worse, a vicious band of scavengers intercept the transmission and infiltrate the Essex, leaving them with nothing. With no cargo and few supplies,...

"Wherever that signal goes, we go." Vertical Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller titled Beyond White Space, an original concept from writers Ryan Colucci and Clay McLeod Chapman. Set in 2150 in another part of the galaxy - when a deep space fishing vessel is robbed by a gang of pirates, the Captain makes a daring decision to go after a rare and nearly extinct species. On the hunt, his obsession propels them further into space and danger as the crew spins into a downward spiral of mutiny and betrayal. That sounds like a very cool setup for a thrilling sci-fi adventure, but alas the trailer doesn't look that great. The sci-fi stars Holt McCallany, Zulay Henao, Dave Sheridan, James Devoti, Jocko Sims, Kodi Kitchen, Mike Genovese, and Tiffany Brouwer. This has some big ideas in it, including one huge space monster (how? why? what?...

There is just something about the combinations of the western and samurai film genres that can produce some real movie magic. They have complemented each other over the decades and history is rife with great examples of influences (Seven Samurai to Magnificent Seven) to mashups (Sukiyaki Western Django and Red Sun(?)). Even when they do not work spectacularly (The Warrior’s Way and Bunraku) there is no denying that the themes, imagery and plot devices compliment each other like few genres can. So when the creators of the graphic novel R.E.M. Ryan Colucci and Zsombor Huszka announce the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to complete their hand-drawn animated film Orient City: Ronin & The Princess, then deliver an impressive opening scene, displaying...

It takes something pretty special to get me interested in an animated film and this project has my attention. Gorgeously hand-drawn, just watch the opening of the film depicting "Orient City", an unforgiving vertical tangle of rocks and skyscrapers. It's simply stunning.
Following the success of their critically acclaimed graphic novel, "R.E.M.", creators Ryan Colucci and Zsombor Huszka proudly announce the launch of their hand-drawn animated film, Orient City: Ronin & The Princess.
About the Film:
Orient City: Ronin & The Princess is a samurai spaghetti western that mixes the characteristics of the American Wild West and Feudal Asia. An unforgiving place, Orient City is a vertical tangle of rock and skyscrapers interconnected with waterways and cable cars. The poor [Continued ...]...

Who knew there were so many attractive people barreling through the far reaches of the galaxy? I guess all you need to get laid in space is a badass intergalactic cruiser and the desire to explore the universe. Visual effects wizard/director Ken Locsmandi who, along with writers Clay McLeod Chapman and Ryan Colucci, are preparing to unleash their sci-fi actioner “White Space” upon the masses, a motion picture that deals with such hot button issues as mutiny, space pirates, and otherworldly creatures. That sounds freaking awesome. I believe that a thorough plot synopsis is in order: 2150 A.D. The Essex, a deep space fishing vessel for industry giant AmberCorp is ready to make its final harvest of the season. When they are robbed by a gang of space pirates, the Captain makes a daring decision to go after a rare and nearly extinct creature. On the hunt, the ship...
