Sales agency The Playmaker has signed with Lieblingsfilm to handle international sales for their Zlin Film Festival winner “What the Finn?!” (“Kannawoniwasein”).
“What the Finn?!” is based on the children’s book by Martin Muser, which was adapted for the screen by Klaus Döring, Adrian Bickenbach and Stefan Westerwelle, who is also the director of the film.
The film had its world premiere at Zlin, where it won the main prize, the Golden Slipper Award for Best Feature Film for Children.
The Playmaker will present “What the Finn?!” at the upcoming German Films Previews in Potsdam (July 5 – 8), where it will screen for international buyers.

Another day, another trio of announcements from the Berlin International Film Festival (February 9 through 19). First off, this year's Berlinale Camera has been presented to Haro Senft, "one of the pioneers of New German Cinema as well as a tireless advocate of German children films... He was the initiator of Doc 59, a group based in Munich at the end of the 1950s; many of its members went on to sign the Oberhausen Manifesto in 1962." His 1961 documentary short Kahl was nominated for an Oscar and Bruno Ganz gave his first performance in a major role in Senft's first narrative feature, Der sanfte Lauf (1967).

COLOGNE, Germany -- Oscar-nominated Stasi drama The Lives Of Others, fragrant blockbuster Perfume: The Story of a Murderer and controversial comedy "Mein Fuehrer: The Truly Truest Truth About Adolf Hitler" are among the titles selected for the Berlinale's European Film Market's German Cinema showcase.
The lineup, which provides a cross-section of the most successful and critically acclaimed German-language films of the past year -- along with a few new titles -- includes Marcus H. Rosenmueller's sleeper hit Grave Decisions; Chris Kraus' award-winning 4 Minutes; Matthias Luthardt's Pingpong, which won the screenwriting award in Cannes; and Ralf Westhoff's speed-dating comedy Shoppen, which was snapped up for German release by X Verleih following its debut at the Hof Film days.
The 17 titles picked for this year's showcase will be screened at the CinemaxX 1 cinema Feb. 9-17.
