Prentice Penny had just wrapped the fifth and final season of Issa Rae’s Insecure and was awaiting its release on HBO when Wired senior writer Jason Parham published his definitive “A People’s History of Black Twitter” in July 2021. The three-part, 9,821-word series chronicles the evolution of the nebulous and influential collective of Black users on the platform now known as X, from an inciting event (the hashtag #UKnowUrBlackWhen) to its growing influence and respective backlash through the present.
For Penny, a multihyphenate talent whose work on such series as Insecure and Girlfriends had been elevated and celebrated by Black Twitter, adapting Parham’s articles into a colorful visual history through the documentary medium seemed like an exciting new challenge after spending much of his two decades in TV predominantly in the narrative comedy space with shows including Scrubs, Happy Endings and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

2023 was an excellent year for new reality TV formats.
House of Villains burst onto screens, grabbed our attention, and didn’t let go for an entire season.
It makes sense then that the show pulled in solid ratings for E! and secured a speedy renewal for Season 2.
While we know that filming is probably already underway, the first cast member has seemingly already leaked, and we’re inclined to believe the person in question will deliver some good TV.
All About The Real Housewives reported this week that Teresa Giudice will give family feuds a rest as she embraces her mean streak on House of Villains Season 2.
Given how successful the likes of Phaedra Parks and Sheree Whitfield have been on The Traitors Season 2, it’s no surprise that other formats are looking to bring in notable housewives.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 23 with the eighth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode seven, Plasma enjoyed her shining moment as the star and challenge winner in “The Sound of Rusic” while Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige and Megami didn’t strike a chord with the judges in their supporting roles. Despite a flipless Lip Sync for Your Life, Mhi’ya came out on top once again and sent Megami back to New York.
This week, the remaining 9 queens head to the celebrity dais with the classic impersonation challenge, “Snatch Game.” Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 8 was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Carson Kressley, and actress Kyra Sedgwick as the extra special guest.

House of Villains has an all-star reality TV cast, and we’re excited to dive into the new series. Reality TV villains have been around for as long as the television genre has existed, and fans love to hate the scummiest folks who are cast on these shows. Now, these villains have a second chance to shine. So, what makes each House of Villains cast member a true villain? Here’s what crimes they’ve committed in the past.
‘House of Villains’ cast member Jax Taylor from ‘Vanderpump Rules’ brought the drama
It makes sense that the House of Villains cast would include Jax Taylor from Vanderpump Rules. As one of the original cast members, Jax became known for cheating, lying, and causing severe drama.
Eventually, Jax met Brittany Cartwright, and they could sustain a relationship despite Jax cheating on her with their co-worker. At the time, Brittany told Jax to “rot in hell,...

House of Villains, E!’s new series featuring reality TV baddies such as Vanderpump Rules’ Jax Taylor and The Apprentice’s Omarosa, is looking to “lean into the comedy” of the genre, according to its exec producer.
John Irwin, who runs Irwin Entertainment and has produced celebrity house shows such as Celebrity Rehab and Sober House, told Deadline, “From the beginning, our strategy was to lean into the comedy of this concept and for the show to parody itself and the genre.”
Irwin explained that the show, which pits the reality villains against each other via a series of challenges in order to win $200,000, was initially developed by the NBCUniversal-owned cable network.
John Irwin
He said that Joel McHale was their first choice. “Not only is he insanely funny, he’s also a hard-core fan of reality television and familiar with most of our cast from his days on The Soup.

Television shows are, inevitably, made up of parts. On the surface, there’s the great, overarching story that begins with the first shot and ends with the last. But, within that narrative, there are small parts: the series, and the episode. It is the smallest of these sub-divisions, the episode, that is most intriguing. A truly brilliant episode can bridge the gap between cinema and TV. It can refine the essence of the best shows into a single, self-contained moment. At its most potent, a perfect episode is like mainlining all the myriad ingredients of prestige television in a single sitting.
But great TV shows do not necessarily beget great episodes and, conversely, great episodes are not always the sign of a great show. The start of 2023 has been dominated by discussions about The Last of Us, a perfectly good series including one stunning episode. In it, two supporting characters...

Most of us like to cheer for the underdog or the sweetheart. But those characters wouldn’t be the favorites in their stories without the villains they face. But what happens in a plot where all of the cast is cut from the same twisted cloth? If rumors are to be trusted, that’s the premise of an upcoming new reality TV show from E! called House of Villains.
The series will put all of the biggest villains from across the unscripted universe on a collision course. The most cunning, sly — and dare we say unlikeable — cast members from franchises like Real Housewives, The Challenge, and The Bachelor will compete against one another to crown an ultimate villain hero. And, it might all be hosted by a real-life conwoman.

Who doesn't love a good ol' reality tv romance?
From The Bachelor to Married at First Sight, to The Courtship and Love is Blind. There is no shortage of reality television shows to show us the good and the bad aspects of dating and falling in love.
I've been watching these series for years, from the heyday of VH1 dating shows to the Netflix originals of today. And with each new show, I've realized there are some fundamental lessons I've learned about love. Perhaps these are some lessons you've also gleaned while watching strangers search for that all-consuming love.
Never Ignore The Red Flags
Look, we've all been there before.
You meet the perfect person, and maybe for a while, everything is great. You're happy and content, and you feel like your relationship is growing and heading in a positive direction, but along the way, you notice a few things that just aren't right.

As Tiffany Pollard famously said: "Gorgeous is gonna, you know, devour cute." When it comes to the Met Gala, the goal is to be called something other than cute. Why? Because when it comes to the fashion extravaganza, it's all about the more is more approach. After all, the Met Ball is the one event where larger-than-life ensembles, in-your-face accessories and exaggerated poses are encouraged. And it's safe to say clothes aren't the only way to stand out at the star-studded affair. Yes, wearing a theatrical design for the special occasion will certainly turn heads, especially if it complements the theme. However, that doesn't mean the look ends there, as...

At the height of the pandemic (or about a million years ago in internet time), the reality TV competition Slag Wars became a minor cult hit. Hosted by adult performers and LGBTQ icons the Cock Destroyers, the show set out to find the next LGBTQ icon, or “slag,” and was marketed as one of the most sex-positive reality shows of all time for its refreshingly non-judgmental portrayal of sex work.

Do you have love for New York?! It's shocking to believe it's been more than 12 years since VH1 aired the final episode of I Love New York. But on Monday, Nov. 23, Tiffany Pollard and the cable network are teaming up for a reunion special that promises to be a must-see event for old and new fans. "There's going to be secrets," Tiffany exclusively teased to E! News. "We're going to be looking back on special dates. I don't want to give too much away, but that one special date in that hot tub will be front and center and if you're a true fan you already know where I'm going. It's going to be a really good time." It’s March 17th and if there’s any one, basic, simple apolitical truth we can all agree on, it’s this: You know about the coronavirus. It sounds reductionist to the point of moronic; even the most doltish Neanderthal or Henry Darger-worshipping recluse knows that the world is facing a major pandemic that requires outreach, unity, and physical isolation on a global, unprecedented scale. Whether you’re a responsible social distancer or an asshole who has to get that one last pub crawl in, the sole commonality is that this virus exists.

As if you needed another reason to love New York! "I want to party and give it all up," sang Tiffany Pollard from a post-op hospital bed during Monday's Botched season premiere. Still loopy from breast implant removal surgery, the reality star thanked Dr. Terry Dubrow for a job well done. "You did not make me a part of the itty bitty titty committee," she rhymed, sporting a satisfied smile. "I still feel a little bit of Dolly Parton in my blood." Wink-wink. "Your makeup's still intact," one physician noted from nearby. "Lord have mercy!" Pollard cried. "I'm ready to go clubbing!" The...

On the fourth episode of season 11 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Mercedes Iman Diamond was eliminated. Did you think she was the right choice to go this week after her performance in the Lip Sync For Your Life or should Ra’Jah O’Hara have been sent packing? Vote in our poll below and be sure to sound off in the comments section with your thoughts on episode 4, “Trump: The Rusical,” which aired March 21 on VH1.
Mercedes and Ra’Jah ended up in the bottom two after failing to impress RuPaul Charles, guest judges Tiffany Pollard and Joel McHale, and regular panellists Ross Mathews and Michelle Visage throughout the fourth series of competitions. That meant they were pitted against each other in the Lsfyl. Each had to perform to the James Brown classic “Living in America.”

During the fourth episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 11, the remaining 12 queens starred in “Trump: The Rusical,” a musical that mixed “Grease” with Donald Trump‘s White House. Each contestant took on the identity of women in Trump’s life, with Ra’Jah O’Hara playing former presidential aide/”Apprentice” villainous Omarosa. Since “Drag Race” judge Ross Mathews previously starred alongside Omarosa on “Celebrity Big Brother,” reality TV fans were treated to a mini reunion … sort of.

Fresh off last week’s embarrassing six-way lip sync battle, the ladies of RuPaul’s Drag Race decided on Thursday that they were really going to start trying from now on. No more tucking around!
Unfortunately, not everyone was able to keep that promise, as seen in this week’s disastrous mini challenge Why You Maddow Tho? The assignment was simple: dress up like MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow (cheap jacket and all!) and read a series of breaking news reports from a teleprompter. Yet “simple” proved too much for some queens, like poor Silky Nutmeg Ganache, who struggled with the...

Now, we must say that none of these celebrities have actually been officially confirmed by CBS or the Big Brother producers. However, there is some supposed leaked video footage of Eva Marie actually cutting a promo for Big Brother. It showed up on Twitter yesterday...
