According to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, a popular DC Comics' character will make his live-action appearance during an Old West time-travel sequence in "DC's Legends Of Tomorrow", debuting Episode #1, January 21, 2016 on The CW:
"Ever since we decided that 'Legends' would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West," said Guggenheim.
"But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television."
'Jonah Woodson Hex' was created for DC Comics by writer John Albano and illustrator Tony DeZuniga, as a cynical Clint Eastwood-like gun-slinger/bounty hunter whose face was scarred on the right side.
Hex is bound by a personal code of honor "...to protect and avenge the innocent..."

Who is Jonah Hex? Jonah Hex is a Western DC Comics antihero created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga. Hex is a surly and cynical bounty hunter whose face is horribly scarred on the right side. Despite his poor reputation and personality, Hex is bound by a personal code of honor to protect and avenge the innocent. His first full-story appearance was in volume two of All-Star Western #10 (February–March 1972). First Appearance The story of Jonah Hex's facial injuries started when he was sold into slavery by his father to some Apache for safe passage. Jonah eventually saved the chief's life from a mountain lion and was made an honorary member of the tribe. He was soon betrayed by the envious son of the chief while on a raid. He returned to challenge him in a sacred tomahawk battle, but the chief's son sabotaged Jonah's tomahawk. Jonah...

Release date: October 12, 2010
Jonah Hex is a film that deserves to be much better than it ends up being. The film is based on the western comic from DC, created in the 1970s by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga, revived in 80s and 90’s in more hybrid styles (notably post-apocalyptic western and horror western), and returned to his straight western roots in 2005 by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti. It’s the Gray and Palmiotti series that serves as the main inspiration for the movie, although there is plenty of the horror and supernatural aspects from the 90s thrown in. The film probably would have been better served by just focusing on the traditional western elements. If you’ve seen the movie, but haven’t read the comic, I highly suggest giving it a shot.

The acclaimed graphic novel about the mysterious, scarred old West bounty hunter has become a muddled, inept film, says Phelim O'Neill
Even if you didn't know how troubled this adaptation of John Albano's comic book was, with rumours of countless rewrites and reshoots, it's obvious something is drastically wrong here even before the opening titles are over. After we are introduced to gruesomely scarred semi-supernatural old west bounty hunter Hex (Brolin, in grisly prosthetics), there is a terrible expositional animated sequence; it's as if they simply forgot to film some key scenes. Otherwise, it seems like a bad case of lost nerve: Hex is never quite the bad-ass he is in the comics, while the plot attempts some clunky relevance as Hex hunts down a campy villain (Malkovich) who is making an olden-days weapon of mass destruction. It just gets louder and more nonsensical as it progresses, with Fox...

The 2010 summer-movie season has given us swords-and-sandals epics, superhero melees and a cavalcade of 3-D animated blockbusters. What we haven't yet seen is a straight-up western, partly because that gun-toting, tobacco-chewing genre has largely fallen out of favor in Hollywood. All that changes Friday (June 18), as "Jonah Hex" rides into theaters in a storm of CGI dust and supernatural-inspired storytelling.
Josh Brolin stars as Hex himself, a facially scarred bounty hunter with a taste for bullets, broads and revenge. His adversary is John Malkovich's Quentin Turnbull, who thinks it would be a good idea to unleash the fires of hell on the entire planet. Hex doesn't think that's such a swell idea, plus Turnbull's the...

The second DC Showcase animated short, Jonah Hex, will appear as a bonus feature on the Special Edition Blu-Ray and 2-Disc Special Edition DVD release of Batman: Under the Red Hood.
Scripted by renowned author Joe Lansdale and starring the voices of Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Linda Hamilton (The Terminator), Michelle Trachtenberg (Mercy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Michael Rooker (Days of Thunder), the PG-13 rated DC Showcase short is based on the award winning comic series created by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga.
In the DC Showcase story, the tough-as-nails bounty hunter Jonah Hex always gets his man - until someone else gets to him first - in this case a murderous madam who wants to steal more than just her bounty from Jonah Hex.

DC Comics is to publish an original Jonah Hex graphic novel titled No Way Back. Written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, the book is illustrated by Hex co-creator Tony DeZuniga. Its launch will coincide with the release of the comic's cinematic adaptation. Tony mentioned to us that they'd wanted to do a story that involved Jonah Hex having a brother," Gray told Newsarama. "The original hardcover has grown from that seed into a (more)...

It sure took a while, but the first trailer for Jimmy Hayward's upcoming action adventure "Jonah Hex" has finally found its way to the web. After all, the movie is opening in theaters June 18, 2010, and this is the first footage we see from the film based on John Albano and Tony DeZuniga’s graphic novel.
As expected, the trailer boasts a bunch of gun battles and fun action sequences, and it looks like "Jonah Hex" will be quite the entertaining adventure. Brolin seems to be the right guy for the role, but I'm still not entirely sold on Megan Fox. This character may work for her, but she fails to impress in this trailer.

Yahoo! Movies have just premiered the latest poster for the summer blockbuster Jonah Hex, which will be released in theaters on June 18. In the film the U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter, Jonah Hex, with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth. He is hired to track down Quentin Turnbull, with whom he shares a troubled past. Early rumors emerged about a zombie army or Quentin trying to rewin the war, but these were dismissed when producers said Quentin is more of a terrorist upset about the outcome of the war not someone trying to fight and rewin it.

A whole series of reviews have cropped up for a pre-release screening of Jonah Hex at AICN. The version of the supernatural western that was screened apparently lacked completed sound and a few visual effects, but it sounds like (what had been originally intended as) a locked work-print.
In general, the news from the various reviewers who attended the screening at the Bridge in Los Angeles aren't exactly raving wild about this particular wild west outing. The least criticism is aimed at main star Josh Brolin, who is said to have turned in a 'a serviceable job'. Another reviewer is more enthusiastic:

The least criticism is aimed at main star Josh Brolin, who is said to have turned in a 'a serviceable job'. Another reviewer is more enthusiastic:

Legendary comic artist Tony DeZuniga will be returning to one of his most famous creations in “Jonah Hex: No Way Back,” an original graphic novel with the current “Jonah Hex” writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti.
According to DC's official blog, the graphic novel will be released in May 2010 in conjunction with the upcoming “Jonah Hex” movie starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich. Additionally, DeZuniga was also responsible for the genesis of this project; according to Gray.
“Jonah Hex has a brother,” revealed Gray. “That’s the idea that came up decades earlier in discussions between writer John Albano and Tony DeZuniga. Tony casually mentioned this to us and that idea has been brought to life in the hardcover. Bold, brazen violent and surprisingly tender, this is the consummate tale of the Wild West’s greatest bounty hunter.”

"Jonah Hex" will be "super-violent" despite being a PG-13 movie, so claimed its female lead Megan Fox. When MTV Movies Editor Joshua Horowitz sat down with this star of "Jennifer's Body", the 23-year-old shared what to be expected from the DC Comics' adaptation.
"I think it's a really good interpretation of the comic," gushed Fox when responding to Horowitz's statement about the movie being kind of insane interpretation of the comics. She then added, "It somehow manages to be super-violent while still having a PG-13 rating. I don't know how they did that."
The "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" actress went on to talk about her co-stars. "It looks incredible and I've never been so blown away with the performances in an action film aside from my own as I am in this one," she revealed. "Because it's [Josh] Brolin and [John] Malkovich and Michael Fassbender, and these theater actors who are just phenomenons and brilliantly talented.

Director Jimmy Hayward has cleared up some of the misconceptions about his adaptation of Jonah Hex, based on the DC Comics title about the adventures of a disfigured bounty hunter.
Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con, Hayward (who previously helmed Horton Hears A Who) said that official trade announcements describing a voodoo storyline had got it wrong.
We had been led to believe that the former Confederate soldier in the American Civil War - to be played by Josh Brolin - would battle Southern plantation owner Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich) who planned to raise an army of the undead.
The comic book character did venture into horror territory at some points, with three miniseries on DC's Vertigo imprint showing the gunslinger taking on zombies, monsters and spirit people.
But Hayward told a news conference at Comic-Con: "I don't know where the voodoo practitioner raising the army of the undead came from,...

For this year's San Diego Comic Con, Warner Bros. didn't only unravel the poster of "Jonah Hex", but also screened the first look at the movie. Making use of Hall H on Friday, July 24, the studio gave time to director Jimmy Hayward to introduce the special footage he prepared especially for the presentation at the convention.
The specially made footage, according to Coming Soon, shows a glimpse of live crow crawling out of Jonah Hex's mouth. A scene wherein Michael Fassbender's character sits on a train track with a dynamite plunger, whistling while waiting for the train, is exposed as well. Another snippet captures a man grabbing Megan Fox's Leila and claiming she belongs to him, a remark that is answered by the beauty with a knock-out and a say, "Never was much for being owned."
The footage also exposes many fighting sequences involving Leila as well as explosions.

After swapping out Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor for Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!), Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the graphic novel Jonah Hex is gearing up to start production. John Malkovich has joined the cast and will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. He blames Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin), a former confederate soldier-turned-hardened bounty hunter and gunslinger. The character of Hex is known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform. The comic was created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga and published by DC Comics. The trades still say Neveldine and Taylor’s script is being used and that Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar is producing with Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman. Filming begins in April.
