Rumors of a Marvel Studios deal with Sony to share the rights for Spider-Man have been circulating ever since the Sony Pictures hack. The deal opened up as a possibility because Sony is reportedly unhappy with how its movie production company has mismanaged the franchise, producing high budget under-performing movies. Sony Pictures has made every effort to discredit any deal (despite what its parent company wants), while Marvel Studios - who wants the deal - has stayed very quite.
While this whole mess gets sorted, we do know that if Marvel brings Spider-Man into their cineverse they are going to be jettisoning all canon from the Mark Webb and Sam Raimi films. Which means Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will not be Spider-Man eligible.
If/when Spider-Man joins the Marvel cineverse, rumor is that it will be sometime during the Avengers: Infinity War two part saga, and not have any origin story for the character.

Despite boasting a talented cast, big blockbuster visuals and a promising director in Mark Webb, things never really worked out according to plan for this year's Spidey sequel. The movie fell short of both the critical and commercial expectations of the studio, and divided fans, many of whom would have preferred to see the character out of Sony’s hands, and back with Marvel Studios. So what exactly went wrong? And is it as bad as people make it out to be? Read on to find out… The Marketing Blitz "You know what it is I love about being Spider-Man? Everything!" – Peter Parker While this may not be a major criticism of the movie itself, it most certainly applies to the creative minds behind it. The whole concept of a movie ‘trailer’ is to tease and engage a potential audience – without ever revealing too much of the plot. Right from the very beginning,...

The Amazing Spider-Man universe has no shortage of bad guys. Already movie goers have been treated to the Lizard in the first film, followed by Electro, Green Goblin and Rhino in the second. Unfortunately, neither movie has really captured the imaginations or hearts of its following and although the villains have looked good (Lizard aside), they’ve hardly been inspiring.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also suffered from feeling like an overblown trailer for upcoming movies, especially the Sinister Six. Rather than Spider-Man being front and centre as he should be, it felt like the villains were top billing instead.
The second film boasted three big bad guys from the Spider-Man universe, with Electro and Green Goblin taking major villain status and Rhino being shoehorned in at the beginning and end. Clearly Mark Webb had not learnt the mistakes of Spider-Man 3, in which too many villains certainly spoiled the broth.

Both Laremy and I have been quite sick, but at the last minute my antibiotics kicked in just enough for us to record an 81-minute podcast for you on this Friday as we didn't want to leave you hanging for one full week without our ridiculous ranting and raving. So, you're getting a horror story from our Jersey Boys screening, our reviews of Jersey Boys and Think Like a Man Too and my thoughts after watching the second season of "Hannibal" as well as the first three episodes of HBO's "The Leftovers". We then answer some of your questions, check out new DVD and Blu-rays this week, play some games and get out a little early as our voices began to fade. Hope you enjoy! Like Janet said, it's all for you... If you are on Twitter, we have a Twitter account dedicated to the podcast at @bnlpod. Give us...

Ain’t It Cool News claims that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been pushed back from its original date of June 10, 2016 to 2017. Mark Webb is still attached to direct the third outing of the web-slinger. There are several reasons as to why this could have happened though, first one being that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did not get the response that Sony may have hoped it would receive. And there are also reports that Marc Webb could be working on another film for Fox. Could that be what is impeding on Tasm 3? Sony even stated a while back, "We are expanding the universe so that we have 'Spider-Man' movies every year,". Only time will tell us what's happening and if these reports are true. In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with...

Warning, this article is full of spoilers for the new Amazing Spider-man movie. If you haven't seen it yet, click away now...
Ok.
Last chance.....
Right, if you're still here, let's go.
Though it seems I may be in the minority here, I can honestly say that as a long term Spider-man fan I think the new film is certainly the best Spidey flick I've ever seen and is quite possibly one of the greatest comic book movies I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
But what about the Avengers flick, I hear you cry, or X-Men First Class? They're great, nay, awesome films, no question, but though it's not without its flaws The Amazing Spider-man 2 just about nails everything that makes the reading of comic books such a joy. Well it does for me,...

In spite of of the lukewarm reception of Mark Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with critics and some fans alike, it seems like general audiences are swinging on drones to catch the latest film featuring everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Variety reports The Amazing Spiderman 2 opened to an Amazing $8.7 during Thursday night screenings in the Us. To put it into perspective, this opening is higher than the $7.5 million The Amazing Spider-Man pulled on Thursday night screenings 2 years ago, but it is still lower than Captain America Winter Soldier's $10.2 million just a month ago. Projections are putting The Amazing Spider-Man somewhere between $91-$95 million opening weekend in the Us. Perhaps a little lower than Sony was hoping for. There is no doubt that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will have a very impressive opening but only time will tell how this lower than expected opening will affect the franchise. We...

Spider-Man is back, bigger and slightly better — but only slightly, and with too much emphasis on “bigger.” There are a few well-tuned moments in Mark Webb's “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” from the charming, charismatic interaction of stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone to the occasional flash of excitement in its wide-screen action. To get to those, however, you have to wade through a two-and-a-half-hour running time that encompasses three costume-clad villains, two shadowy string-pullers, four distinct climaxes and still finds room for every single cliché of big-budget franchise screenwriting. Welcome to The Marvelous Da7e Issue #35!
This week, there’s news. News news news that needs needs needs to be processed as it’s large and has millions of dollars tied into it’s multiple years of superhero content promises.
First up is The Amazing Spider-Man, because – come on – it’s me.
.
News from Sony is that they have tied Mark Webb into directing Amazing Spider-Man 3, scheduled to hit in May 2016 up against Warner Bros’ Batman Vs. Superman and a Marvel Phase III project (probably Dr. Strange if I had to guess, certainly not Guardians of the Galaxy 2, because that movie doesn’t exist). The would put Webb solidly in production towards the tail end of this year, so I hope he’s taking notes on all the villains he has to deal with while he’s finishing ASM2 off.

The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is here! Peter Parker continues to adjust to his crime fighting life as Spider-Man and relationship with Gwen Stacy while dealing with new enemies, the return of his old friend Harry Osborn, and discovering more about his past.
Blink and you might miss Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus’ arms and Vulture wings. What is happening here!? Will it be another cluster of poor story telling around too many baddies?
Directed by Mark Webb, the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man will have Andrew Garfield reprising the role of Peter Parker, who’s keeping busy fighting crime as Spider-Man while juggling his personal commitments, including spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone) — against the wishes of her late father, we might point out — and anticipating his high school graduation. Jamie Foxx will play the role of Electro in the film, while up-and-comer Dane DeHaan fills James Franco...

Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Dane DeHaan has insisted that the movie will satisfy fans.
The Chronicle star said that filming his role of Harry Osborn in the Mark Webb-directed sequel left him feeling "completely fulfilled".
"It [was] a really great experience and a really great luxury to have four months to prepare for a movie and then six months to shoot it," he told SuperHeroHype.
"I'm an actor who likes to work, you know? And I was able to work on this one more than I've been able to work on anything so I had a really amazing time shooting it.
"I worked with really great actors and a really great director and the script was really awesome, and I left completely fulfilled in a way that I didn't think I would be and I think the fans are really going to love it."

When it comes to Hollywood people on Twitter, there are basically four different types:
1. Those who just think they're way too cool for tweet school before setting virtual foot onto the platform in the first place (here you have your Megan Fox-style fails);
2. The ones that are obviously controlled by some P.R. lackey receiving triple-filtered fluff to post (lookin' at the noob, Liam Hemsworth);
3. Those other guys who totally should have had someone buffering their tweets and/or should altogether just avoid typing while under the influence of alcohol, anger or any other inhibition-lowering stimuli (most recently, Alec Baldwin);
4. And, mercifully, the select few elite who actually give a hoot and have bothered to figure out what in H is going on with the social networking game. There are many different subsets of Type 4, but they all share one thing in common, and it's very simple: Personality.

4. And, mercifully, the select few elite who actually give a hoot and have bothered to figure out what in H is going on with the social networking game. There are many different subsets of Type 4, but they all share one thing in common, and it's very simple: Personality.

Shailene Woodly (The Descendants) was cast in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Mary Jane Watson. She shot her scenes and all was good… until today that is.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that director Mark Webb has chosen to not include Watson in ASM2.
Webb:
“I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship.
“Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”
Unfortunately for Woodley, it appears the character will most likely be recast.
“Of course I’m bummed,” Woodley said. “But I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. … Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.”

Right before production on the "Divergent" adaptation kicked off earlier this spring, lead actress Shailene Woodley did some work another from-the-page picture, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." Woodley nabbed the coveted comic book-based role of Mary Jane in the movie - one of her many, many wins of late - and was then seen filming some scenes in New York alongside Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. As the new "Divergent"-centric issue of EW announces (via Page to Premiere) though, Woodley's part in the film was unfortunately cut, reserved instead for the third installment to Mark Webb's four-part franchise. "Of course I’m bummed," Woodley said. "But I am a fun believer in everything happening for a specific reason…based on the proposed plot I completely understand the need for holding off introducing Mary Jane until the next film." ,,,,...

Nass Festival is one of the UK’s biggest and one of Europes finest extreme sports and music festivals. Along with Boardmasters and Freeze festival, Nass is included in the holy trinity of Relentless festivals, but what does that mean to those unexperienced?
As you could have guessed, Nass festival plays host to world famous action sports pros and music artists at the top of their game, year in, year out at Bath and West Showground in Somerset. Across the platform of Relentless festivals you can more or less expect similar atmosphere, artists and degree of sports over a three day period to soak up the sun and even gets your hands dirty at various public sessions of open indoor and outdoor skate/bmx parks when they are not in use for competitions. Previous athletes include Tony Hawk and Matt Hoffman, so keep your eyes peeled if you have some...

Ever heard of too much of a good thing? Expect a comic book / superhero movie overload for the next couple of years. Besides a Batman reboot, a Justice League movie, Iron Man 4, Avengers 2, Thor 3, Captain America 3 (you know they’re going to happen) and a multitude of other stuff, The Amazing Spiderman will have another two movies released after next years forthcoming sequel. Sony Pictures have pencilled in June 10th 2016 for a third spidey movie and May 4th 2018 for the fourth one. Sony are really hedging their bets on the oul webslinger, and I guess they have little choice really? With Warner Bros. and Disney / Marvel have quite an amount of super heroes under their wings. Regardless of a lukewarm reception to Mark Webb’s “reboot” of the franchise, The Amazing Spiderman pulled in $752,216,557.

Bryan Singer tweeted another picture from the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past again today, which you can see below.
This time we get to see MIchael Fassbender as Magneto floating above the set, with a little help from a lift.
What do you think of all the behind the scenes shots we’re getting from filmmakers like Singer and Mark Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)?
Personally, I like it.

With the veritable onslaught newbies caught in the web for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" — including Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as the Rhino as well as Dane DeHaan as Harry Osbourne, Chris Cooper as his papa Norman Osbourne, Shailene Woodley as Miss Mary Jane — it's kinda nice to see a familiar face or two, yeah?
Well, then, here's a guy comic book fans are bound to know.
Stan Lee, the creator of many things super and/or heroic, has now filmed his 'lil cameo for the flick.
In the frame, Lee is apparently posing as an attendant of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone)'s big and blue graduation ceremony ... which totally makes sense, given his "genius" cameo in "The Amazing Spider-Man" as the completely unobservant librarian.
Director Mark Webb shared this image of Lee in action (that is, sitting idly in the crowd) on Twitter,...

Bye bye, blue birdy.
Perhaps in response to last week's spotting of Jamie Foxx traipsing around Manhattan in his smurfy Electro makeup on the set of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," director Mark Webb has now shared a first-glimpse of the Oscar-winner in his non-alter ego form, as Max Dillon.
Webb broke from his production picture-sharing tradition of generally sticking to behind-the-camera-style nerdery to introduce the pic with the caption, "My name is Max."
Now, geek is totally chic, but even Foxx looks less than foxy in this get-up. Those are some rather dated frames Maxwell's got on there, and we don't what the what is growing out of his head. That said, it's pretty much perfect for the down-and-out character whose luck would have it that he gets struck by lightning.
Webb's offering wasn't the only character glimpse to come out of yesterday's Twitter pool. Actor Dane DeHaan also doled...

Twitter is good for a lot of things, but it's increasingly being used by filmmakers as a way to drop tidbits of information on unsuspecting fans. In the case of "Amazing Spider-Man 2," we have gotten our first official look at two of the biggest characters from the hotly anticipated sequel via the social media platform – Jamie Foxx's Max Dillon aka the villainous Electro and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. The photo of Electro came from Mark Webb, who included the caption: "Day 52. My name is Max." The photo is of Electro before he turns into the blue, lightning-powered creature that the character is identified as in the comic books. (Earlier last week spy photos of Foxx in his full blue regalia leaked online, looking very much like the "Ultimate Spider-Man" version of the character.) The shot shows him surrounded by Spider-Man ephemera, including what looks like a Spider-Man...

Mark Webb’s latest tweet from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has teased a famous location from the comic books in the form of Ravencroft Institute For The Criminally Insane. The institute can be seen as Marvel’s equivalent of Arkham Asylum, and has played host to all manner of Spidey foes, from Carnage to the Jackal. We can probably take a good guess as to who we’ll find housed there in the sequel, particularly given the reference to “voltage cells” on the direction board. Sounds like the kind of place where Electro might hang,...

Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Dane DeHaan has admitted that he is unfamiliar with the film's comic book source material.
The Chronicle star said that he was not a Marvel Comics fan growing up, but has been conducting research for his role as Harry Osborn in Mark Webb's sequel.
"I don't think you have to be a fan of something to do the job. I think ultimately it's important that I'm familiar with past takes on the Osborn story," he told ComingSoon.
"My job as an actor is the same job whether it's a comic book movie or a gritty Derek Cianfrance drama, or a Chronicle, or a Lawless, which is to take a character and, for want of a better word, breathe life into it. I'm a fan of acting."

Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi has admitted to avoiding Mark Webb's reboot of the movie series.
The Oz The Great and Powerful filmmaker likened watching the new Spider-Man movie to attending an ex's wedding and said that he does not "have the guts" to sit through it.
"Well, I'm a big Marc Webb fan and a Giant fan of Emma Stone. And of Andrew Garfield. I saw him on Broadway in Death of a Salesman - it's just brilliant," he told the The Huffington Post.
"I love the producers of that movie because they are dear friends, and the writer. But I haven't had the guts to go see the movie yet, because I don't want to go to my girlfriend's wedding. I just can't bring myself to do it - I don't have the guts."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already has a couple of villains on board in the form of Electro and Rhino, but a recent image released by director Mark Webb has got fans wondering whether there might yet be another in store. The image shows what looks like a locker in a morgue, marked with the number 14. Webb accompanied the pic with a brief caption, reading, “Day 3. #happybirthday”. Curious… Now, being an aficionado of the comics, Webb will know that Peter Parker and Eddie Brock discovered Venom in a similar locker at Oscorp, again marked...
