Nobody writes quite like horror author Bryan Smith, and Trent Haaga recently brought one of Smith's novels, 68 Kill, to life on screen in a film that's now out in theaters and on VOD platforms from IFC Midnight. If you haven't seen it yet or you're looking for some memorable moments to reflect upon, we have a set of stills and an alternate poster for the movie.
"Trailer-dwelling, sewage-pumping Chip (Matthew Gray Gubler) may not lead the most glamorous life, but he’s got one thing going for him: he’s head over heels infatuated with his girlfriend Liza (AnnaLynne McCord). He’s more than willing to overlook her wild streak—the fact that she’s hooking up with their landlord; her rather extreme mood swings —so when she proposes a plot to steal $68,000, he goes along with the plan. But when what was supposed to be a simple heist turns into an off-the-rails,...

Trent Haaga has spent more than 15 years establishing himself in the realm of indie filmmaking. An esteemed graduate of Troma University, where he got his start as the writer on Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger 4, Haaga also penned Deadgirl and Cheap Thrills (and numerous other projects), and has made appearances in over 50 films to date. While Chop, a 2011 micro-budget horror comedy that has been grossly overlooked, may have been Haaga’s first-ever time in the director’s seat, it’s with his follow-up effort, 68 Kill, that he cements himself as a filmmaking force of nature who continues to build a strong foundation as a purveyor of cult cinema.
With a screenplay based on Bryan Smith’s book of the same name, 68 Kill introduces us to Chip (Matthew Gray Gubler), a trailer-dwelling nice guy who pumps sewage for a living and is completely infatuated with his out-of-control girlfriend, Liza (AnnaLynne McCord...

Trent Haaga: Yeah,...

Oh, 68 Kill features a psychotic AnnaLynne McCord seducing and shit-kicking her way through country-fried thrills? Why yes, this is exactly my kind of midnight carnage. Wait, it gets better? You bet! This dark comedy marks Trent Haaga’s directorial follow-up to Chop (also co-wrote Cheap Thrills/Deadgirl), and 68 Kill only furthers his catalog of gleeful nastiness. Femininity and masculinity clash in a bumbling Bonnie and Clyde reimagining, with a dash of Tarantino unpredictability. It’s a raucous closing-time nightcap that runs on perfume and blood-soaked booty shorts, because what man wouldn’t kill for Ms. McCord? Brilliant casting, Mr. Haaga. Novelist Bryan Smith should be proud of this adaptation.
Matthew Gray Gubler stars as Chip, the love-struck boyfriend of white-trash vixen Liza (AnnaLynne McCord). She’s the talk of the trailer park. Everyone wants her, but Chip is the lucky guy she goes home with – when not sexing landlords in lieu of late rent.

Another year is coming to an end. Where does the time go? Seems the older I get the faster the time goes and there is no surer sign than that of me getting into the E-Reader game.
I finally broke down and bought a Kindle this year and no the world didn’t end. In fact I am very happy I did. I will first and foremost always love the feel of a real book; the fragrance, the crisp clean pages being turned and the weight of it gently held in my hands.
The Kindle has allowed me to read the back catalogs of many authors I love that I wouldn’t have otherwise been able afford to do. Plus, a lot of publishers and authors are sending me Kindle books for review, which is a lot better than Pdf’s. As I had to print the Pdf books out.

Now for my annual list of my favorite books from 2010. I managed to read 56 books this year, basically one a week. That is along with various magazines that I manage to squeeze in also; Diabetic Forecast; Home Theater Magazine, Cemetery Dance, Morpheus Tales etc. Also, along with spending time with the amazing new woman in my life, working on my sites, taking care of my dog, training in mixed martial arts, taking care of my Diabetes and writing my own stuff. I need another me. But all in all it was a great year for horror fiction in my opinion. So without further adieu here they are:
1.) By Wizard Oak – Peter Crowther
By far my favorite book this year. Mr. Crowther took witches to a whole new level. It was decadent, dark, nasty and scary as hell. Loved every second of it. If I had read this instead of seeing...
