The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Late “Night of the Living Dead” creator George A. Romero has one final film in the works.
Romero, who died in 2017 at age 77 after battling lung cancer, wrote a treatment for film “Twilight of the Dead” before passing away. Per Romero’s estate, the film is the “seventh and final installment” in the “Living Dead” franchise. The project was first revealed in 2021, but Deadline reported that newly relaunched Roundtable Entertainment is now moving forward with production and applying for a SAG-AFTRA waiver amid the strike for a slated late 2023 start date. The waiver would allow production to happen in spite of SAG-AFTRA work stoppage orders.
Romero’s widow Suzanne Romero, who will produce the film, said in a statement, “I’m delighted to be joining forces with Roundtable to bring the eerie evolution of Romero’s universe to the screen. Roundtable impressed me with their long-term and deep love of George’s work.

After the release of Day of the Dead in 1985, twenty years went by without George A. Romero being able to get another zombie movie into production, even though he was very open about the fact that he had an idea for another one. During that time, a lot of fans expected the next movie to be called Twilight of the Dead, following the progression of the titles Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead. But when Romero did make a fourth zombie movie, he threw a titular curveball and called it Land of the Dead. That was followed by Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. Now it looks like Twilight of the Dead is going to happen after all – and might even begin filming before the end of this year!

Exclusive: As we step foot on the ground at the Sundance Film Festival today, we’ve confirmed that 12 people of the near 30-person staff at Aviron Pictures were pinkslipped on Friday and issued their final paychecks. Domestic theatrical distribution president Greg Forston and his team were eliminated, in addition to Evp Publicity and Promotion Claire Heath.
This melee comes in the wake of BlackRock, Aviron’s senior lender, alleging impropriety in the company’s structure in a contentious lawsuit that was filed December 17 in the Supreme Court of New York (read it here), specifically accusing the company’s founder and owner William Sadleir of forgery and fraud. This resulted in Sadleir being removed by BlackRock as the operating manager of his company’s subsidiary Aviron Pictures as well as other arms of his company.
At this point in time sources inform us that Sadleir is prepping a defense, and counter-claims against these accusations.

The Informer scheduled to open in Us although no firm date set.
As Sundance Film Festival 2020 prepares to get underway, the early talk at the bastion of independent cinema will be future of Aviron Pictures following a report that 12 out of the company’s 30-strong staff have been laid off.
While it understood the company remains operational and intends to release Ana de Armas, Rosamund Pike and Joel Kinnaman thriller The Informer in the Us within the next 90 days, the future looks uncertain following lay-offs, a backdrop of lawsuits, and the firing of Aviron Pictures founder, chairman and CEO William Sadleir.

The biggest deal to emerge during the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) came together before the event started, which says a lot about the acquisitions scene these days.
Distributors need no reminding of the treacherous terrain they occupy. Too many films continue to compete for a slice of the North American box office in a traditionally theatrical manner, only to fall short of expectations in an increasingly fractured marketplace bloated with consumer choice.
Buyers invest early in the best prospects and so Focus Features took worldwide rights off the table to Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming 1950s London haute couture drama to star Daniel Day-Lewis in a deal reportedly valued at $35m.
CAA handled that one on behalf of the filmmakers. Similarly, Wme Global and Good Universe touted an action-thriller package called Kin ahead of the festival and Lionsgate pounced on worldwide rights for what was understood to be in the mid-to-high $20m range.
