The casting announcements of Atom Egoyan's West Memphis 3 feature Devil's Knot have become as prolific as The Hunger Games. Every few days we get word on a new enticing actor joining the project that already boasts Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon. First came The Killing's Mireille Enos, who'll play a witness and mother of an 8-year-old boy. Next, the mesmerizing Alessandro Nivola signed on to play Witherspoon's onscreen husband Terry Hobbs, a suspicious stepfather of one the missing boys. Amy Ryan and Chronicle's Dane DeHaan were in talks when newcomer James Hamrick was cast as West Memphis 3's Damien Echols. Then casting came in waves of threes, with Young Adult's Collette Wolfe, Ringer's Kris Polaha, and Justin Castor snagging roles days before Scandal's Matt Letscher and Mad Men's Michael Gladis signed on to play the West Memphis 3's defense team, while Bruce Greenwood...

"True Blood" star Stephen Moyer has joined the cast of Atom Egoyan's Devil's Knot , Deadline reports. He joins Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Alessandro Nivola, Kris Polaha, Collette Wolfe, Justin Castor and Kevin Durand in the narrative take on the West Memphis Three. Released from prison earlier this year after nearly two decades, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. and Jason Baldwin were convicted of the murder of three eight-year-old boys in 1993. Their trial was the subject of the Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky documentary, Paradise Lost that brought national media attention to the trial and its outcome. Egoyan ( The Sweet Hereafter , Chloe ) is basing his take off the book "Devil.s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three" by Mara...

And we’re back on the Devil’s Knot casting beat (and, yes, we’re pretty beat by it). Atom Egoyan‘s upcoming film documenting the tragedy of the West Memphis 3 has so far collected a cast of various talents and notoriety levels, including Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Mireille Enos, Collette Wolfe, Kris Polaha, Kristopher Higgins, along with still-in-negotiations actors Amy Ryan and Dane DeHaan, but now the filmmaker is mining some truly undiscovered country. Variety reports that Seth Meriwether has been tapped for the role of West Memphis 3 defendant Jason Baldwin (the outlet notes that earlier reports that Justin Castor was set for the role were “premature,” as the actor had not yet received an official offer at the time of it hitting the wire). Don’t know Meriwether’s name? Well, you wouldn’t – the kid is a seventeen-year-old high school senior from Montgomery, Alabama. Just how the heck did Meriwether land such a plum...

Ever since the West Memphis Three were freed from prison last summer by entering Alford pleas, there have been a few different groups scrambling to retell their story on the big screen. Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky already followed the events quite exhaustively with their three Paradise Lost documentaries, but now that there is a definitive conclusion, at least three more adaptations have cropped up. Peter Jackson produced a documentary called West of Memphis that premiered at Sundance earlier this year, and there are now two competing fictional features in development: one directed by Atom Egoyan and the other apparently being produced by Johnny Depp. Egoyan's film, entitled The Devil's Knot, will likely be the first one out of the gate, and this week they have made a slew of casting announcements including their choices for the WM3 themselves. According to Variety, they finally locked down the key role of Damien Echols this week,...

Even in its recent casting spurt, the role of Damien Echols has been a specter hanging over Devil’s Knot. The most well-known, outspoken, and controversial member of the West Memphis 3 is not only bound to play a major role in the Atom Egoyan film, but also, as a result, needs to be played just right for much of the drama to work. So, who would play him?
Unless you go to Wesleyan University or, at the very least, attend their shows, it’ no one you’ve ever heard of. ShowBlitz has learned that one of their drama students, James Hamrick, impressed Egoyan so much with an audition that he’s officially won the role over “dozens” of established young actors. With this, the film’s West Memphis 3 have been locked in; Kristopher Higgins will play Jessie Misskelley, and Justin Castor is set to appear as Jason Baldwin.

We hoped when Bill Murray appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman" earlier in the week that he might have something important to say about "Ghostbusters 3," but the funnyman didn't throw us much of a bone about the possible horror-comedy. When host Dave asked about the film, which mastermind Dan Aykroyd has been trying to get off the ground for some time now, Murray had this to say:
"That's about all they want to know at Cannes, too... But, um... They just don't have a really good script. It's hard. Even the second 'Ghostbusters' wasn't as much fun for me as the first one. It's hard to make a sequel. That first one was really funny. It was just so darn funny, it's hard for me... I always drag my feet on it, but you know, we'll try again."
Please don't tell us this is stuck in development hell forever,...

Oh, I guess Devil’s Knot isn’t slowing down. The recent slate of minor casting had — due in part to plain old experience and, in some ways, the project’s apparent schedule — made yours truly think the film had ceased finding the big names — but I never really know what I’m talking about, either. Now, Variety reports that Amy Ryan and Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Place Beyond the Pines) are both up to take a role in Atom Egoyan‘s film, though schedules and such need to be worked out before either can officially board.
A secure deal would see Ryan playing the “soon-to-be ex-wife” of Colin Firth‘s character, Ron Lax, whose real-life investigations into and public support of the West Memphis 3 act as Knot‘s center. DeHaan‘s role is a bit more enigmatic and open to possibility, being “a teen who had some history with...

From a based-on-a-true-story drama to an action vehicle... Nothing really brings these two movies together, other than the solid talent being added, so let's get right to it...
First up, Amy Ryan ("Win Win," "Gone Baby Gone") and Dane DeHaan ("Lawless," "Chronicle") are set to join the growing cast of Atom Egoyan's West Memphis Three drama "The Devil's Knot." Scheduling still needs to be worked out for both actors (DeHaan is getting married -- congratulations!), but should they sign on, Ryan will play the soon to be ex-wife of lead investigator Ron Lax (Colin Firth) while DeHaan will play a teenager who has a history with the accused teens. The duo join a cast that includes Reese Witherspoon, Mirielle Enos and Alessandro Nivola, with Collette Wolfe, Justin Castor and Kris Polaha along coming on board in recently. Shooting is set to kick off later this month.

As Atom Egoyan's West Memphis Three drama The Devil's Knot heads toward its fast-approaching start date, its cast is filling up fast with incredible talent. Earlier this week, Alessandro Nivola, Collette Wolfe, Kris Polaha and Justin Castor joined the ensemble that already boasts Mireille Enos, Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth, and now Variety has uncovered that Oscar-nominee Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone) and Chronicle's Dane DeHaan have entered into early negotiations to see if they can fit the feature into their hectic summer schedules. Based on investigative journalist Mara Leveritt's bestselling book that explored the infamous murder case, Devil's Knot unfolds the mystery of who killed three young boys in West Memphis, Arkansas in the spring of 1993 through the eyes of Ron Lax (Firth), a private detective who took on the case pro bono. Through his exhaustive investigation Lax uncovered DNA evidence that linked one of the...

Since this is only coming a day after the last announcement, one could get the impression that Devil’s Knot is, after months of pre-production and relative quiet, finally shaping up for a production start. Deadline reports that Kristoffer Polaha (Mad Men, Ringer), Collette Wolfe (Young Adult, Observe and Report), and Justin Castor (Glee) are either in talks to or have already joined Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, Mireille Enos, Kristopher Higgins, Alessandro Nivola, all of whom are working under director Atom Egoyan.
In his West Memphis 3-centered drama, Polaha will be seen as Val Price, a public defender that the three boys felt hurt their own chances; Wolfe is playing Glori Shettles, the assistant to Ron Lax, a public investigator played by Firth; and Castor is negotiating to appear as one of the three suspects, Jason Baldwin. Collette Wolfe has only been acting in films since 2006, but looking at the list of movies that she's done has revealed a small pattern. While she has done more comedy features than anything and regularly plays sweet, nice characters, she has shown a proclivity towards taking parts in projects that look at the darker side of life. In addition to working multiple times with director Jody Hill - who basically lives on the dark side - she was also recently seen playing Patton Oswalt's sad sister in Jason Reitman's Young Adult. Now, however, she's ready to make her turn towards drama and, surprise, surprise, it's a seriously dark story. Deadline has learned that Wolfe has joined the cast of Devil's Knot, the film about the famed West Memphis Three. Kris Polaha, who played Henry Hutler on Ringer, and part-time TV player Justin Castor have also signed on for parts.

The McKinley High class of 2012 is coming up on graduation, fast. We have no idea how the rest of the student body is handling that, but the Glee Club kids are, of course, singing about it, in the form of a Whitney Houston tribute episode.
I actually didn't realize how thin "Dance With Somebody" was on plot until I went to recap it, because I was distracted by all the shiny Klaine angst and Brittana dancing, and also the gay hugging. (Hugging is what same-sex couples do when hetero couples would be kissing. We only kiss during Very Special Episodes.)
Possibly as part of this plot-lite approach, Glee apparently no longer feels the slightest need to set up their opening musical numbers in terms of context.
Just like last week, when Blaine, Mike, and Brittany went right into "Saturday Night GLEEver's" first song, we're launched directly into Mercedes, Santana, Kurt,...
