Ray Donovan is our working-class James Bond, all crisp shirts and well-tailored suits, straight whiskey and a baseball bat. However, the premiere of “Ray Donovan” Season 6 suggests a series well into its decline, one that transfers our antihero from Los Angeles to New York in an effort to reinvigorate the show’s scrappy energy.
While it’s risky to judge a season by the single episode available for review, the disappointment here is familiar. The herky-jerky flashback storyline that defined Season 5 was a clumsy mess that suggested the writers’ room relocated to an ayahuasca retreat. Those conceits have gratefully vanished, but now we’re left with Ray as a depressive thug who’s swapped his style for a baggy flannel shirt and a well-worn Yankees cap. And where’s the fun in that?

Ever be sitting alone in your room when all of a sudden you hear a voice emanating from a dark hole beside you? If you were in the 1977 soft-porn classic Chatterbox, this wouldn't be too much of a problem, but in Deep Dark? Yeah, not good.

When superheroes meet religious oppression, the results aren't pretty.
Ortho Comic's founder and writer Sean McGrath's new play, "Giants in Those Days", is headed for an August debut at Austin's Weird City Theatre. The play is set in an oppressive theocracy (is there any other kind?) where heroes (called "Interventionists") are considered affronts to God and are executed on sight. And yes, there are gay characters too :) The play is set in an oppressive theocracy (is there any other kind?) where heroes (called "Interventionists") are considered affronts to God and are executed on sight. Question: What has eight arms, 32 fingers, a collective half-a-brain, wears rotted flannel, and lives off human entrails and Snickers bars?
Answer: I don't know, but it's crawled up on the stage, and it's plugging in!
Creepsylvania is home to many colorful and interesting tales, not the least amusing of which is the widely held conviction that there are four "Ghouls" living in the extensive, uncharted catacombs that honeycomb the earth underneath Monture Noire Cemetery.
These creatures are said by the natives to feed on dead things in the graveyard and are believed by many to venture...

Last summer, when writer Sean McGrath heard Maggie Gallagher say the most reprehensible and stupid things to ever come out of her voluminous pie hole -- "Gay marriage is not a civil right. In fact, it's a civil wrong" -- he wondered what he could do, other than imagine her head exploding, Scanners-like, into a soft, fine spray of blood, bone and malfunctioning mental matter.
Answer: write her as a blobby, monosyllabic hulk-ette, with swaying tits, tortured torpor and a big, fat mallet, in league with all the other hating low-lifes that follow her, Legion of Doom style. Oh, and get his friends to help make it all into a comic book.
Below is a link to the product of that labor, an on-line satirical comic look at the marriage wars, entitled "Rise of the Pink Ninjas: A Gay Fantasia". In it you'll gasp as Mad Gallagher throws her weight around!
