Amazon has put in development 2051, an animated workplace comedy from comedian Mo Mandel (Comedy Knockout), Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Written and executive produced by Mandel, who also will voice a lead role, the show is described as an animated workplace comedy set in 2051 — and if you think 2018 is terrible, just wait. Fuchs also executive produces with Greg Walter and Josh Lieberman for 3 Arts.
Mandel created, wrote and executive produced comedy competition series Comedy Knockout, which recently wrapped its third season on TruTV. His other credits include Barely Famous, in which he appeared and served as consulting producer, along with Man Up and Partners. He’s repped by 3 Arts and attorney Lev Ginsburg.
Fuchs co-wrote the story for the hit 2017 film Wonder Woman with Allen Heinberg and Zack Snyder. His other writing credits include Ice Age: Continental Drift and Pan. His acting credits include La La Land and The Good Wife,...

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, a comedy pitch by comedian Mo Mandel has landed at Fox. The single-camera comedy, produced by Happy Madison and Sony Pictures TV, is loosely based on Mandel’s relationship with his brother. It is described as a sibling rivalry show in the vein of Step Brothers. Mandel will write as well as executive produce with Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson. There is no deal in place for Mandel to act but he is writing one of the characters with himself in mind. Fox has an upcoming comedy series starring its writer, Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project. Additionally, Fox has made developing comedy series with standup comedians a priority. The network recently greenlighted The Short-Com Comedy Hour, a new series to launch next summer that will feature short-form multi-camera sitcoms created by and starring standup comedians. Mandel, repped by Wme and 3 Arts Entertainment, has been a frequent panelist on E!

Hank Azaria's cancellation suspicions were correct. Last night's episode of Free Agents didn't fare any better in the ratings and NBC has now cancelled the sitcom after four episodes.
In the TV series, Alex (Hank Azaria) is newly divorced and trying to keep himself together. Alex's co-worker Helen (Kathryn Hahn) drinks too much because she's trying to cope with her fiance Pete's untimely passing. The two overworked public relations executives share an ill-fated night of passion and are forced to cope with the awkward aftermath. While Alex and Helen try to figure out their lives and potential relationship, their co-workers at the PR firm of Hale Dayton Associates try to do anything to get them back into the dating game. Others in the show include Anthony Head, Mo Mandel, Al Madrigal, Natasha Leggero, and Joe Lo Truglio.

After four low rated outings, NBC has canceled Free Agents, its remake of the British series of the same name. Repeats of Whitney will be taking the show's place in the Wednesday night line-up, where it had been paired with recently renewed Up All Night.
Free Agents follows Alex and Helen, co-workers at a PR firm in Portland, Oregon that enter into the uncomfortable area in their friendship following a one night stand. The show starred Hank Azaria (The Simpsons), Kathryn Hahn (Crossing Jordan), Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Natasha Leggero (Chelsea Lately), and Mo Mandel (Reality Bites Back).
NBC was also responsible for the first cancellation of the season, as The Playboy Club was pulled after three episodes earlier this week.
How were you enjoying Free Agents? What do you think NBC should replace it with? Which show do you think will be cancelled next?...

The cast of NBC's Free Agents
“Sooner or later, when you’re all trapped in one space, somebody is going to sleep with somebody.”
So says Todd Holland, executive-producer of the new workplace-set comedy Free Agents, based on the profane, critically-acclaimed British TV series that aired on Channel 4. The upcoming NBC show jumps off from the same basic premise as its predecessor, following two corporate PR executives (who were actually agents in the British version) as they develop an awkward office romance.
Hank Azaria (Huff) and Kathryn Hahn (Crossing Jordan) star in the show as Alex and Helen, who we see waking up in bed together in the very first scene of the pilot. Alex has just suffered a soul-crushing divorce, while Helen is quietly grieving the death of her fiancé.
Within the first 60 seconds, the emotionally-wrecked Alex begins to sob uncontrollably, and Helen hurriedly calls him a cab.

Chicago – Sitcoms need likable characters. We have to want to spend time with people to laugh at their insights or behavior (a lesson that the writers of “Entourage” forgot somewhere along the way) and comedies with people that are more annoying than humorous never last. Look no further than tonight’s debut of the awful “Free Agents,” a new NBC comedy with excellent actors given nothing entertaining to do.
TV Rating: 1.0/5.0
Perhaps something was lost in translation but this new series based on a hit U.K. program simply fails on every level. “Free Agents” want to be part romantic comedy and part workplace sitcom but falls flat as both. One of the biggest problems with the show is a complete lack of chemistry between Alex (Hank Azaria) and Helen (Kathryn Hahn), two co-workers who recently jumped into bed together. They don’t get along at work or really in life either,...

"Free Agents" doesn't take the usual will they-or-won't they approach to romantic comedy. It's got a solid cast led by comedy veterans Hank Azaria, Kathryn Hahn and Anthony Head. Its creator was part of the team behind one of the funniest TV comedies of the past decade.
So, a less-traveled take on a familiar genre, good cast and good auspices should add up to a strong show, right? You would think.
Despite all that it would seem to have going for it, "Free Agents," which debuts Wednesday (Sept. 14) on NBC, ends up being less than the sum of its parts. It's a show I would really like to like, and there are elements present in the pilot that make me want to see how it's doing by, say, episode four or five, but it's not there yet.
Azaria ("The Simpsons," "Huff") and Hahn ("Crossing Jordan," "Step Brothers") play co-workers at a PR firm.

It's either Gordon Ramsay night or Misery Night or, if you're on one of Gordon Ramsay's shows, it's both! There's also some season finales signaling the beginning of the August doldrums of television shows where everything is in reruns or some lame show that the network decided to dump at the end of summer because they knew everyone would be either too hot to care or busily making vacation plans since they just realized it's goddamn August already. However, most of the season finales are for shows that I haven't seen any chatter about here anyway ("Basketball Wives" anyone?) so I hope none of you are adversely affected. Anyway, here's your Monday night TV:
8:00pm: "Bachelor Pad" on ABC. Three hour second season premiere. Wait, second season? I think my brain erased all previous memories of this show because I literally had no clue that it existed before...

The writers, producers, and cast of NBC’s new one-camera sitcom Free Agents made an appearance at the NBC Universal Press Tour at The Beverly Hilton on Monday and they had the reporters giggling all the way ‘til the lunch break. Star Hank Azaria (The Simpsons, Huff) likened the show to an “anti-romantic comedy” since his and Kathryn Hahn’s (Step Brothers, The Goods) characters wind up in bed together despite coming off horrible ends to their previous relationships And working together at a public relations firm. Co-star Al Madrigal (The Daily Show) jumped in to emphasize the fact that even though there may be two leads stuck in a romantic entanglement, the supporting cast is comprised of very funny, and established, comedic actors like Mo Mandel, Natasha Leggero, and Joe Lo Truglio. And everyone sang the praises of Anthony Head (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Merlin) who reprises his role...

It's funny how Thursday night during the regular TV season is prime time and always packed with shows, but now that summer has started it's a wasteland. Thursday night used to be the night where I most keenly felt the lack of DVR in my life as I was frequently forced to make the choice of socializing with friends or watching my shows (particularly "Archer" thanks to the terrible fact that episodes didn't hit Hulu for a month). Now? Now most of my friends have departed for the summer and I'm left with a completely empty Thursday evening and basically nothing to keep me entertained. I blame all of you. Obviously. Here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00pm: "So You Think You Can Dance" on Fox
9:00pm: "The First 48" on A&E
"Boxing Gym" on PBS. This is a documentary about a boxing gym in Austin, Texas and the people who train there.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.
With Bob Greenblatt having replaced the outgoing Jeff Zucker, NBC is looking to turn around its dismal fortunes and has started by significantly cutting back on a bunch of shows which were simply not performing. This schedule takes some big risks with some new shows needing to perform if they're to survive, while two two-hour reality show blocks early in the week have certainly raised eyebrows.
There are twelve new shows in all, half of which are being held until mid-season. In the Fall, the biggest gamble is "Prime Suspect" - the U.S. remake of the iconic British police drama. With only the rarest of exceptions, American remakes of British shows have generally failed...

It's that time again, and NBC has revealed it's 2011-2012 schedule. A couple of things have been kicked to the curb, and a host of new shows are coming to fill things in. I have a preview of the new fall shows, and the full schedule for you. There are a few surprises on the cut and not cut side of things, and the new shows have a bit of something for everyone. As usual, some of the ones that look the best to me are reserved for mid-season. And, NBC has apparently given up on Saturday altogether.
It's a whole lot of info, so let's just jump in.

In NBC's new workplace comedy "Free Agents," Hank Azaria plays Alex, a recently divorced and heartbroken public relations professional. When he winds up in bed with co-worker Helen (Kathryn Hahn), things get awkward.
Not just because they are co-workers and friends, but because Helen lost her fiance a year ago and still keeps pictures of him in her house. Working together, they attempt to get back in the game and find love.

Chicago – The slow trickle of news regarding NBC cancellations and renewals has finally burst the dam and we have the entire Fall schedule to present along with descriptions of the new programs and time/day changes for several of your favorites.

NBC will aggressively try to right a ratings-challenged ship by programming 12 new programs over the year — 6 new dramas and 6 new comedies. Many of them won’t premiere until mid-season and “30 Rock” won’t return until then either, running uninteruppted from that point (not unlike “Parks and Recreation” did this year). In other major news, the final, 13-episode season of “Chuck” will air on Friday nights.
The returning shows for the network include “Parenthood,” “Harry’s Law,” “Chuck,” “Community,” “Parks and Recreation,” “The Office,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “The Voice,” “The Sing-Off,” “The Celebrity Apprentice,” “The Biggest Loser,” “30 Rock,” and “Dateline NBC.”

Up until today I have not seen the video of the song "Friday" featuring Rebecca Black. Mostly because when it came out I was at SXSW and just didn't have time and after seeing everyone's reactions to it decided it was best to stay away. Very similar to my approach to "Two Girls One Cup." (Mom, Do Not Google That! Call me if you really want to know.) (Sorry, my parents read my column.) However, it was announced last night on "The Colbert Report" that Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon had raised $26,000 for Donors Choose and so Colbert would be performing Patrice Wilson's (the actual writer of the song, rather than the hapless teenager unfortunate enough to have sung it) "Friday" with The Roots on... Friday. Obviously. So I may have to watch the video just to get the full effect. Oh, and I also saw this video of Amanda Palmer...

Buffy alum, Anthony Stewart Head is coming back to NBC where he was for a bit on the series Merlin, this time to return to his UK series’ Us remake, Free Agents for the Peacock network.
The single-camera romantic comedy pilot, from Universal Media studios, centers on the attraction between two quirky co-workers who are both on the rebound (one from a divorce, the other from the loss of a fiance).
Head, whose previous credits include Merlin, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the U.K. Agents original, will once again play the part of cocky boss Stephen. As of now, he plans to guest in the pilot with a series option. He will join previously cast Hank Azaria, Kathryn Hahn and Mo Mandel.
Anyone else as excited as me for anything that Giles does?...

Yesterday I got a new TV to replace the one I've owned since 2005, which was some old Crt thing I picked up for not much money and which had (unfortunately) survived being dropped last fall with a few scratches and a funny patch on one side of the screen that glowed either green or purple, depending on how much it wanted to annoy me. My new TV, which I already adore, is a Vizio 32" web enabled 1080p HDTV and I'm only telling you that because I'm the kind of person who feels the need to brag about new gadgets for at least two or three days after I buy them and proper bragging requires that I list off all of those details. I really do like it though, everything looks so much better on it. Here's the TV that I will be enjoying in gloriously crisp fashion this evening:
8:00pm: "American Idol" on Fox.

Television's an interesting mix tonight; most of you are probably tuning into the extra jumbo sized season finale of "Sons of Anarchy" but for any of you out there who aren't watching it, the tide of shitty Christmas specials is going strong and there's something involving some chicks in fancy underwear. And Bob Saget has a new show because apparently what the world has been waiting for is more Danny Tanner in their television lives. Actually, since Uncle Jesse is also back on "Glee" we've only got another five cast members to go before the whole "Full House" crew gets back on TV, but since at least one of them is a meth addict, two are fashion victims of the highest order, and DJ has disappeared from any radar I'm aware of, I don't see that happening soon. And that's your dose of 90's sitcom nostalgia for the day. Here's...

Remember how in the 1980s and 1990s standup comedians ruled the comedy series world as the broadcast networks were clamoring to develop sitcoms with them? Well, it's been awhile since the last big one based on standup, Everybody Loves Raymond, went off the air, and now networks are looking in other places for fresh writing/acting talent. NBC is taking a chance this development season with a high-concept comedy from up-and-coming comic Mo Mandel. The project, produced by 3 Arts, chronicles what a group of twentysomethings do in the last five years of their lives before the Earth is destroyed by a meteor. Mandel may also co-star if his script goes to pilot. Mandel broke out at the Montreal Just For Laughs comedy festival and has pilot acting experience after co-starring on Fox's Strange Brew last season. Wme/3 Arts-repped Mandel, who recently taped his first stand up special for Comedy Central,...
