“Now and again I like an easy job – and this is an easy job.” That was sports entrepreneur and general all-round business genius Barry Hearn talking in 2010 after being appointed chairman of the World Snooker Association (Wsa). Many thought he’d gone bonkers to take the job on at the time – even his close friend and former protege Steve Davis expressed his doubts live on the BBC – such was the slump in popularity the game had experienced. Fast forward to the present, and how is the “job” – to restore snooker back to something like its former glory – going? With another world championship at the Crucible Theatre looming, let’s take a look.
When Hearn took over, the game was still very much in the doldrums. Attendances were poor, save for the real prestige tournaments on the calendar, prize money had dried up somewhat and general interest levels were a shadow...

It's no secret that I didn't like what Paramount Pictures did with the G.I. Joe franchise at all. I grew up on all things G.I. Joe, that franchise was my favorite thing as a kid and I still love it. Unfortunately, the studio handled the property completely wrong. I've always felt that the franchise needed a complete overhaul, and now the studio is moving forward with it. I just don't know if what they are planning will be any better than what they've already done.
During an interview with La Times, it's explained that Paramount has big plans for rebooting the G.I. Joe franchise with "a revamped look intended to appeal to younger audiences." Simon Waters, who oversees consumer products at Hasbro Studios, said that they want to take "a more millennial approach." He explains:
"The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.

Over the last few years Hasbro has moved from toy manufacturer to big Hollywood player after a slew of projects reached screens based on their products but thus far it has been somewhat of a mixed bag. Biggest, of course, is Transformers which continues to go from the strength to strength at the global box office – $3.779billion grossed thus far – and the next installment, The Last Knight, is due in cinemas this summer.
G.I. Joe is perhaps the company’s next big franchise and it’s perhaps no surprise that news from The Los Angeles Times suggests that the film version of the series is set for a reboot, as is the Hollywood norm these days. The first film, released in 2009 under the helm of Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) and starring Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, grossed just over $300million.
The sequel, G.I.

Hasbro is going back to square one with its G.I. Joe movies...
This isn’t the biggest surprise, but Hasbro has now revealed that it won’t be pressing ahead with a new G.I. Joe sequel, instead opting to take the movie series back to square one for a reboot.
Hasbro is moving more heavily into films itself, and has been developing its own movie universe. Furthermore, it’s coughed up itself to make My Little Pony: The Movie, that arrives in cinemas in the autumn (whereas on the likes of the Transformers films, its licensed its property to other companies).
But with G.I. Joe, we’ve had two films thus far that have made decent money, but won few people over. As such, Hasbro is cutting its losses there, and starting over.

Although both G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation certainly made money, they never approached the level of success that the Transformers franchise has, and it seems that Hasbro is looking to wipe the slate clean and start over. Hasbro executives Simon Waters and Steve Davis chatted with The La Times about the future of their various properties, and it was mentioned that they will once again team up... Read More...

BBC iPlayer original comedy drama The Rack Pack tells the story of Alex “Hurricane” Higgins and snooker's exploding 1980s popularity…
“Colourful” is the preferred press euphemism for describing lives like that of snooker’s Alex Higgins. The “bad boy” of the game, he was a genius on the baize who drank, smoked, snorted and head-butted his way to world champion status and back. Talk about colour. As the tabloids tell it, Higgins’ story is a nothing short of a kaleidoscope.
It’s harder to describe his 2010 death as similarly vibrant. Higgins died broke and alone, wilfully starving in sheltered housing after throat cancer left him toothless and skeletal.
That’s the bit of these stories we prefer to ignore. Stories of men like Higgins and his Belfast contemporary George Best, whose talent comes packaged in a personality that erodes it. Men whose self-destruction isn’t just tolerated by their public but celebrated.

The BBC has commissioned its first feature-length scripted film for iPlayer - a comedy drama based on the rivalry between snooker players Alex Higgins and Steve Davis.
Endemol Shine indie Zeppotron will produce The Rack Pack, a 90-minute-plus film exploring the “glory days” of the 1970s and 80s snooker scene.
The film is penned by Shaun Pye, Mark Chappell and Alan Connor, the writing team behind Sky Arts’ A Young Doctor’s Notebook, which starred Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe and Mad Men’s Jon Hamm..
Luke Treadaway (Fortitude) will play ‘Hurricane’ Higgins, the naturally talented showman, while Will Merrick (About Time) has been lined up as the more conservative Davis, who under the guidance of snooker mogul Barry Hearn (Kevin Bishop) dominated the sport.
The film coincides with the 30th anniversary of the 1985 World Snooker Championships final between Davis and Dennis Taylor which was watched by 18.5m people - holding the record for the UK’s biggest...

Skins star Will Merrick will play Steve Davis in an upcoming snooker biopic set for BBC iPlayer.

Kevin Bishop will appear as Davis's manager Barry Hearn, while Nichola Burley and James Bailey play Lynn Higgins and Jimmy White respectively.
Directed by Black Mirror's Brian Welsh, the project will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the famous 1985 World Snooker final.

"They are together in [West] Palm Beach," the source tells People. "They are seeing each other and they have gotten stronger ever since Chelsea ran away and [O'Donnell's] father died."
However, a rep for O'Donnell, 53, previously told People that the two are just friends.
"No, they've been friends for several years since they met in Chicago when Rosie did a show for Own and Tatum did a docu-series for Own." The rep echoed the statement to People on Wednesday, saying, "they are friends and nothing more."

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had a decent real-life career criminal to ogle over in the media. It seems the days of Al Capone, Dillinger and Bonnie & Clyde have long since passed. Since then, we’ve had plenty of fictional films to fill in the void, but even The Godfather and Scarface stop short of the infamous “based on a true story” appeal that gets us truly salivating.
Whitey: Unites States Of America Vs. James J. Bulger is a film that perhaps attempts to fill this void. This is not the story of the rise of a criminal empire, but the complicated and calculated decline of a lone wolf. This film indirectly chronicles the trial of James J. Bulger, a ruthless criminal loose cannon who ruled Boston with an iron first for some three decades. I say indirectly, because the film deals more directly with the...

The I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! stars won some tasty treats after taking part in a quiz.
The two teams were invited to take part in the chance to win a chocolate brownie for each celebrity after answering questions about the rival camp.
Some of the revelations from the quiz included that Kian Egan used to be a kissogram, that Joey Essex reached number 33 with his take on 'Last Christmas', and that Egan has more followers on Twitter than Alfonso Ribeiro.
Elsewhere, it emerged that Rebecca Adlington has two tattoos, but has won fewer Olympic medals than Steve Davis has won world snooker championships.
In the end, Snake Rock - Essex, Amy Willerton, Laila Morse, Davis and Adlington - got three questions correct and won three brownies.
However, they were bested by Croc Creek, as Lucy Pargeter, Ribeiro, Egan, Matthew Wright and David Emanuel answered...

Where would we be without I'm a Celebrity?
Where would Iceland pimp out their latest festive frozen monstrosities? Where would Ant & Dec go to top up their tan and get a cheeky round of golf in every November? And how would Joey Essex learn how to tell the time? This isn't just a chance to laugh at celebrities with scorpions down their pants, this a god damn public service people.
This year's selection of Never-Have-Beens hoping to get an extra couple of zeroes on their panto cheques include '80s snoozy snooker player Steve Davis, Towie's Joey Essex, a man so dumb he makes Rylan look like a University Challenge winner, and a clan of vaguely recognisable soap stars.
"I'm best known as Big Mo from EastEnders," said actress Laila Morse. That's not true Laila. You're only known as Big Mo from EastEnders.
Still, at least it's better than fashion designer David Emanuel.

I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! was back with a bang last night (November 17) - we've already had tears, trials and, er, tampons. Obviously, it's far too early to judge our new batch of famous faces... but as if that's going to stop us! So join us as we share our snap judgements of the ten jungle rookies and let us know what you think below...
Rebecca Adlington
Rebecca gets instant points for shamelessly fangirling over Kian Egan. Now, sure, this probably made Kian hideously uncomfortable, but her little disappointed noise when she found out they definitely wouldn't be on the same team was amazing.
Even when he beat her at the Bushtucker Trial, she hugged him and called him a legend and thanked him for doing it quickly. If Rebecca has that little composure around a member of Westlife, just imagine what it's going to be like...

I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! contestant Amy Willerton has taught Joey Essex how to tell the time.
After learning that the former Only Way Is Essex star was unsure of what to do, Amy built a makeshift clock on the ground and explained what the big and little hands mean.
"It's so much easier to look at your phone though, isn't it?" Joey said.
Amy responded: "You ought to remember, if you want to go and buy a nice watch, like a nice designer watch, people will come up to you and say, 'Joey, what's the time?'"
"I've got a watch, but watches are more like fashion, in't they?" Joey replied. "My watch ain't got numbers on it."
When Rebecca Adlington asked Joey if he understood the 24-hour clock, he replied: "I always say when it says 20, it means eight, so when they say 19, that's seven.

This year's I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! contestants face their first Bushtucker Trial in tonight's (November 17) episode.
'Turntable of Terror' sees the hopefuls compete against each other - as the yellow team and red team - to win food for dinner and the best camp.
They are told that the winners will spend their first few days in the relative luxury of Croc Creek, while the losers will be in the smaller Snake Rock, which resembles an abandoned camp.
Each round involves one member of each team lying in a glass coffin and having to complete a star-shaped jigsaw puzzle, while accompanied by creepy crawlies. Every puzzle completed earns them a meal for their team.
Alfonso Ribeiro and Steve Davis both face scorpions in their boxes, with a tearful Ribeiro commenting afterwards: "It will take me a second to de-compose. That was tougher than I thought."

Are Stoke the team to put an end to Southampton’s dream run of form?
Match Preview
It has been an energy-drenching week for Stoke. After leading 2-1 at Old Trafford after 78 minutes, to come away with nothing will be gut-wrenching for Stoke, and then to nearly make a similar mistake at 10-men Championship side Birmingham will not do anything to help Stoke’s chances against an inform Southampton.
Stoke did finally prevail, albeit via penalties, against Birmingham, but it took 120 minutes for them to do so, and with Southampton not playing this week (their Capital One Cup tie vs Sunderland was rescheduled on request by Northumbria Police) it will certainly be a test of Stoke’s fitness and resilience.
And whilst Mark Hughes can be proud at the manner of his team’s performance at Old Trafford,...

Tony Mowbray knows he needs to land a goal scorer if his team are to realistically challenge for a top six finish this season, after squandering a hatful of chances. Blackpool’s 100% record has now come to an end after late drama at The Riverside.
Chris Basham’s late strike wasn’t enough for the visitors who thought they had stole the three points. Boro’s Dutch hitman Marvin Emnes cancelled out Basham’s goal in injury time.
Boro handed home league debuts to three of their starting eleven; Frazer Richardson, Albert Adomah and Jayson Leutwiler, who has already been at the club for a year.
Neither side could settle in the opening exchanges; but a neat Grant Leadbitter crossfield ball found Mustapha Carayol. His trickery presented him with an opportunity, however he couldn’t test the keeper with his tame shot.

Yesterday Catherine Greig, girlfriend of notorious gangster James "Whitey" Bulger, admitted to helping her man elude capture for almost sixteen years in a U.S. District Court in Boston. The 60-year-old women was soft-spoken and tearful, but Steve Davis, the brother of one of the 19 victims Bulger allegedly murdered, insisted that she did not deserve any sympathy. Davis argued, "She's not what she appears to be. She's a monster." Greig ultimately plead guilty to charges of conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, conspiracy to commit identity fraud, and identity fraud.
