Kalinga Deshapriya Vithanage born in Galle Sri Lanka ,currently working as a freelance Director of Photographer in
Canada.
In 1998, he chanced upon the set of avant-garde filmmaker Asoka
Handagama's television drama "Synthetic Sihina,". There starts his
passion for film making. Captured by Kalinga's talent for art, veteran
Art Director Rohan Samaradivakara invited Kalinga to work with him on
Handagama's feature "Me Mage Sandai (This is My Moon)". Curious and
determined, Kalinga formed an alliance with the presently
internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan cinematographer Channa Deshapriya.
After 'Me Mage Sandai (This is my moon)", with the fatherly guidance of, Channa Deshapriya, he continues to work in different productions and gradually ventured into the world of filmmaking.
The films he assisted the DOP, Channa Deshapriya (Aswesuma(2001), Sulan Kirilli (2002), Flying with one wing (2002), Empy for love (2003), Sulanga Enu Pinisa (2005)and Aksharaya (2005)) later on became internationally recognized. Along with these feature films, Kalinga was constantly occupied in various documentaries and short films.
In 2005, Kalinga leaves to South Korea after being selected for his portfolio as a cinematographer, to participate in one month's workshop organized by the Asian Film Academy-10th Pusan International Film Festival. After this one month's program, for his outstanding cinematographic performances, Kalinga receives the KAFA Asian Scholarship. This scholarship allows him to follow his higher studies on the art of cinematography at the Korean Academy of Film Art, Korean Film Council.
Kalinga is grateful to PARK Ki-Yong the former Executive Director of Korean Academy of Film Arts, Korean Film Council and also the whole board of lecturers of the Film Academy.
The short film "I too have a name" in which he worked as the DOP was nominated to Golden Bear award in Berlinale International Film Festival in 2012.
His recent short film "There is no poetry here" was selected to compete at the Wide Angle section of Busan International Film Festival in 2013 and it also represented in Short Film Corner- Cannes International Film Festival 2013.
