Well here it is, my Top 15 films of 2015. If you’ve ever read one of my end of year lists, you’ll know that my choices tend to be a million miles away from the mainstream; and this year is no different! This year has been Amazing for films, I could easily had penned a list of 52 films – one for each week of the year – but instead I managed to narrow down the choices to 28 films quite swiftly. However, to hit this years target of a Top 15 (for 2015 geddit?) it took a hell of a lot of work. I think this list even surprises me – there’s a number of films that going back over the 508[!] films we’ve reviewed here on Nerdly in 2015, at the time I reviewed them, I didn’t expect would stay with me till the end of the very end of the year. Oh, and...

Confession time. I’m not the biggest Kevin Hart fan. I don’t mind the actor/comedian in small doses – a supporting actor in films such as the remake of Death at a Funeral and the Scary Movie franchise, but I can’t sit through any of his stand-up shows in there entirety and the last movie hes was the “star” of, Ride Along, was – frankly – awful. However I am always willing to give Hart’s film a go – especially when they look, albeit from the trailer, as hilarious as The Wedding Ringer.
And I’m happy to report The Wedding Ringer is not only a fantastic bro-mance flick (yes, they Do exist...

“These guys can not be my groomsmen. It looks like the entire cast of Goonies grew up and became rapists!”
When Jim Batts reviewed The Wedding Ringer here at We Are Movie Geeks, he wrote: “…….First time feature director Jeremy Garelik tries to give the flick a frenzied pace by quickly cutting in for close-ups constantly, which never exhilarates, but merely exhausts the viewer. Every bit of business is hammered home, with little room for characterization. Subtlety? No way! No time! Got to get to the next big “gut-buster”…..(read all of Jim’s review Here)
I didn’t see The Wedding Ringer when it played theatrically, but after catching up with it on Blu-ray, I’d have to say I liked it a bit better than Jim did, but of course I watched it at home as opposed to a theater full of people who may or may have not been laughing.

In what is essentially Wedding Crashers mixed together with heavy doses of I Love You, Man, The Wedding Ringer is exactly the sort of manic, slightly convoluted, but ultimately entertaining buddy comedy you would expect Kevin Hart to be at the head of. As Jimmy Callahan, the head of Best Man Inc., he makes his living offering his services as Best Man to men who don't have the friends necessary for a wedding. When the totally friendless Doug (Josh Gad) asks him for the fabled 'Golden Tux' package, which involves filling out the entire grooms party with strangers, Jimmy reluctantly agrees. That set up is out of the way pretty quickly, making room for the chaos that follows. The Wedding Ringer is the type of movie where laughs trump plot, quirky characters are the order of the day, and dogs interact with male body parts they really should not interact with.

A festering pile of fatphobic, homophobic, sexist, grossout garbage in which men are manipulative liars but women are worse. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): the premise sounded awful
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
I’ve said it before, but it has never been more applicable than with The Wedding Ringer: there is nothing men can do, no matter how base or despicable, that cannot be celebrated on film. This movie thinks it is a tragi-comedy lamenting the state of modern manhood, which leaves so many men without strong male friendships. And this truly is a bad thing, and there is perhaps a funny and touching movie to be made about that. But this festering pile of fatphobic, homophobic, sexist, child- and grandma-abusing, grossout garbage is not it. Doug (Josh Gad: Frozen) has literally no friends he can ask to...

A smart premise, appealing performances from Kevin Hart and Josh Gad and a magnificent Lost in-joke featuring Jorge Garcia can't redeem a script that's too self-satisfied to remember the importance of basic details like credible characterisation and believable motivations.
Hart is a ball of energy as Jimmy Callahan, an opportunist who hires himself out as a Best Man to socially maladjusted strangers who need one for their wedding day. The one rule is that once the wedding is over, they part ways forever. Step forward Doug, a man with literally no friends who has still managed to procure a glamorous bride (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) and is in desperate need of help. Can Jimmy and an assorted bunch of wrong'uns convince everyone that they're Doug's lifelong friends?

It is keeping with its subject matter, this goofy, low-brow comedy about a bunch of nincompoops is itself a bungled affair. Tax attorney Doug (Gad) is about to marry but he doesn't have a best man or any pals at all. He therefore turns to Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart), who offers "best man services". Jimmy pretends to be his best friend, an army priest called Bic Mitchum, and recruits seven lowlifes to be his groomsmen at the wedding.

I was surprised by The Wedding Ringer. Actually, I should clarify that statement: I didn’t hate The Wedding Ringer. Released in the January doldrums, backing Kevin Hart as its headline act and sticking by a title that sounds uncomfortably familiar to that other wedding movie from over a decade ago, not much was weighing in its favor. The movie, while entirely predictable and with the occasional questionably offensive joke, never becomes the broad, pandering slap-stick-a-thon its scant trailers make it out to be. Unfortunately, on the other hand, I’d be hard pressed to argue that anyone walking out of the theater this weekend will remember it come the Spring.

Doug Harris (Josh Gad) is a likable shlub with a fat bank account, a beautiful fiance (Kaley Cuoco) and one small problem. He has no guy friends to be his best man and groomsmen at his upcoming wedding. That all changes though when he discovers Best Man, Inc. and its CEO, Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart). He won’t be your friend after the wedding, but for a small fee Jimmy will be the best best man you could have hoped for, for a slightly bigger fee he’ll also include one or two groomsmen for your special day and for $50k? For $50k he’ll roll out the Golden Tux package. The illusion works flawlessly for the first few minutes, but it’s all downhill once grandma (Cloris Leachman) catches on fire. The Wedding Ringer is less of a movie than a log line, and it’s a fact evident through almost every one of the film...

Within a quick couple of years, Kevin Hart has become one of those elite comedians whose own very funny shtick often transcends the otherwise bad (or even good) material around him. He’s an intense presence, but he often floats above his movies. So it’s interesting to see him so dedicated in The Wedding Ringer, a mostly disposable, occasionally quite funny bromance distinguished at times by its earnestness. Hart plays Jimmy Callahan, a professional who, for a price, will come to the aid of mostly friendless, soon-to-be-wed men and pretend to be their lifelong buddy and best man for a weekend. He swoops in, gives soulful wedding speeches, charms everyone (including a bridesmaid or two), and then he’s off — though, for an additional fee, he’ll keep sending cards on your birthday and, if necessary, speak at your funeral, too. It’s an imaginative idea, one full of...

Hey film fans, are you ready for the first odd coupling “bro-mance” of 2015? Well, you’d better be, cause it’s here at the multiplex now. It owes little to that Neil Simon classic creation other than an unlikely pairing. Perhaps it’s closer the 48 Hrs films or the Rush Hour series, although race and ethnicity doesn’t factor in quite as mush as those earlier action comedies. And what instigates this team-up? Why it’s that epic fodder for catastrophe, a big wedding ceremony, where slapstick, conflict, and deception collide. Throw in a shady transaction and you’ve got a new big matrimonial farce in The Wedding Ring (get it, ring, and singer, eh?eh?). No need to mail in a RSVP, just get your tickets at the box office.

Let's clear up a few things about The Wedding Ringer right off the bat. First, it's a Kevin Hart film. If you don't like Kevin Hart (I do) then don't go see the movie, you most likely won't enjoy it at all. Secondly, it's rather misogynistic. This is more a bromantic comedy than a romantic comedy as the men primarily speak as if the ladies aren't in the room. If such comedy offends you, perhaps you too might want to sit this one out. Otherwise, The Wedding Ringer is a mixed bag. I smiled and laughed frequently while I found myself saying, "Okay, get on with it," more than once. It's not a strong brom-com contender, but it should satisfy the right audience in a pinch. There is little out of the stereotypical norm as we meet Doug (Josh Gad), an overweight, nerdy, loner type, who's engage to be married to Gretchen,...

While “The Wedding Ringer” isn’t the total waste of time that its painful trailer (and January release date) threatens, it’s also a movie whose occasional good ideas are ultimately drowned out by sloppy, contrived screenwriting. On the scale of Kevin Hart vehicles, it’s not up to the standards of “Think Like a Man” and “About Last Night” — but hey, at least it’s better than “Ride Along” or “Think Like a Man Too.”

A new trailer of The Wedding Ringer, starring Kevin Hart and Josh Gad, has hit screens.
Gad plays Doug Harris, who has no best man for his fast-approaching wedding to fiancée Gretchen (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting).
With that in mind, Doug decides to hire Best Man Inc CEO Jimmy Callahan (Hart) to be his confidant and provide him with groomsmen.
The group have one week to learn as much about Doug as possible in order to pass themselves off as his friends.
Kevin Hart to host first Saturday Night Live of 2015
Doug is in danger of making Jimmy break his one rule - to never make friends with his clients.
The Wedding Ringer is released in the Us on January 16, 2015 and in the UK on February 20, 2015.
A press junket for the film was recently scrapped in the wake of the Sony hacking scandal.

Sony Pictures has released a hilarious red-band trailer for their upcoming comedy The Wedding Ringer. When I first heard about this movie I thought it was going to be stupid, but every trailer I’ve seen for it has made me laugh, including this one. The movie stars Josh Gad and Kevin Hart, and I have to warn you… this trailer features a ton of profanity. So it’s probably not safe to watch at work unless profanity is A-ok in your workplace.

Watch out, it’s another wedding hijinx and hilarity movie. And of course this one is about a groom (Josh Gad) who needs a best man for his wedding because he basically has no bffs. So he goes to Kevin Hart, who just happens to be in the fake best man business. Perfect. While it’s “strictly a business relationship,” you know these two are gonna be bromantic besties by the end of the film. Directed by Jeremy Garelick, the filmmaker behind Vince Vaughn’s underrated dramedy "The Break-Up," maybe there’s mild hope for this one to be more than just January comedy filler. The movie also stars Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Ken Howard, Cloris Leachman, Jenifer Lewis, Mimi Rogers, and Olivia Thirlby. The "Ride Along" star brings the party to life for "Frozen" co-star Josh Gad in "The Wedding Ringer" Hart plays Jimmy Callahan, an escort of sorts who offers his services as a fun-loving best man to grooms-to-be who lack social skills. When Harris (Gad) hires him, all sorts of shenanigans ensue, involving faked photos, "Goonies" lookalikes, extra testicles and flaming grannies. Nerds and geeks have never been so popular. Wait, isn’t that an oxymoron? Who knows, with the rules of social mores being decided by the powers that be: other people. The rise of TV fare like The Big Bang Theory and the eminent shagability of the supposed “geeky scientists” on every crime procedural means those of a sweaty-palmed nervous disposition can reign in audiences. But it helps when there’s someone cool thrown in, too. Such is the case in Sony’s upcoming comedy, The Wedding Ringer.

This bromantic tale follows hopeless groom-to-be Doug Harris (Josh Gad), who’s terrified of his wedding day. Not because his soon-to-be bride (Kaley Cuoco) is a dragon. No, it...

If you ever thought that mashing up "Hitch" and "Wedding Crashers" would be a great idea, we must inform you that Sony is way ahead of you. Next year, the studio will release "The Wedding Ringer," which conjoins matrimonial madness and cool-guy-helping-awkward-nerd story lines. Kevin Hart and Josh Gad star in a comedy that finds a friendless groom-to-be hiring the services of an outsider to help him with a simple problem: he's got no best man or groomsmen for his wedding. And what follows is hilarity, apparently. Here's the synopsis: Doug Harris (Josh Gad) is a loveable but socially awkward groom-to-be with a problem: he has no best man. With less than two weeks to go until he marries the girl of his dreams (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), Doug is referred to Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart), owner and CEO of Best Man, Inc., a company that provides flattering best men for socially challenged guys in need.
