Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia have been cast to lead Amazon Prime Video’s thriller series “Obsession,” which was ordered at the end of last year.
The series is based on Catherine Ryan Howard’s novel “56 Days” and, per the official description, it follows “Oliver (Jogia) and Ciara who, after meeting randomly in a supermarket, fall for each other fast, and dangerously hard. Fifty-six days later, homicide investigators arrive at Oliver’s apartment to find an unidentified body—brutally murdered and intentionally decomposed. Did he kill her? Did she kill him? Intercutting between an intense single day in the present investigation and the twisted trajectory of the young lovers’ affair in the past, the series is both a unique crime story and a riveting, erotic, psychological thriller.”

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines director Lindsey Anderson Beer has a whole lot of projects in the works at Paramount, from a new version of Sleepy Hollow to a film inspired by the American Girl toy brand – but that isn’t stopping her from teaming up with Universal Content Productions and genre regular James Wan (as well as his wife Ingrid Bisu) to develop a TV series called 1313, which is described as being a darker reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom The Munsters. If 1313 gets a series order, Anderson Beer will be serving as the showrunner.
According to Deadline, 1313 will be “a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse,” which makes sense, since the Munsters family included vampires, a little werewolf, and a version of Frankenstein’s Monster. As for the title of this new project, it comes from the fact that the Munsters lived in a house with the address 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

In the wake of Rob Zombie’s direct-to-video movie The Munsters back in 2022, Universal has now announced “1313,” a brand new small screen reboot of the iconic television series.
Developed and produced by James Wan’s company Atomic Monster, the new Universal horror series is said to be “a reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom The Munsters that lives and breathes within the Universal Monsterverse.”
Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) will serve as the showrunner for “1313.” The title is of course a reference to the Munster family’s address, 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
Deadline notes in their report, “The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer, and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.”
Executive producers are Lindsey Anderson Beer and James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Ingrid Bisu is a co-exec producer on the upcoming series.

Think The Munsters, but way more grim.
UCP is developing 1313, which has been described as a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse, aka a reimagining of the classic 1964-66 CBS sitcom The Munsters.
Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to showrun the drama. The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.
Executive producers are Beer and Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Bisu is a co-exec producer.
The last time someone tried to dust off The Munsters for the small screen was in 2017, when NBC opted to reboot the comedy with Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman and Seth Meyers. The half-hour single-camera version was going to follow members of an offbeat family who are determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn.

As far as individual authors go, Stephen King is certainly in the top of the list of authors whose works have been adapted. He is right there with Agatha Christie, Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, and other authors whose works have been adapted often and in many forms. But unlike the aforementioned authors, King’s adaptations are usually original, while the other authors have seen their works adapted and remade more than once. In light of that fact, we can confirm that King’s story, “The Monkey,” had been adapted into a film this spring and the movie was presented to buyers at Cannes this year!
Knowing how popular King’s adaptations are, it was a sure thing that someone would buy the movie, and as it happens, Neon managed to nab the distribution rights for the upcoming movie and they have confirmed that a 2025 release date is currently planned.

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres in January of last year, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel. The sci-fi horror film M3GAN (watch it Here) was a box office success when it was released last year, earning $181 million at the global box office on a budget of $12 million and spawning a sequel that is set to reach theatres in May of 2025. The collectible makers at Neca are about to find out, because they have created life-size replicas of M3GAN and are selling them for $494.99. You can check out the product page at This Link. A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.
Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.

Stephen King fans, rejoice! The fate of the film adaptation of "Salem's Lot" has been up in the air over the past couple years, despite revealing footage from the project at CinemaCon back in 2022. Not even Stephen King himself knew what was going on with the film's potential release, though he wasn't shy about singing the praises of the movie from filmmaker Gary Dauberman, the director of "Annabelle Comes Home" and co-writer of "It" and sole writer of "It: Chapter Two." Thankfully, fans no longer have to ask when they'll be able to see the new "Salem's Lot" movie, because we finally have an idea of when it will be released. But it won't be in theaters.

As for when in 2024, we still don’t know, and as for what this thing will even look like, still no answer there, as today’s announcement came without any sort of handy-dandy still to round out the news.
The film was first announced in 2019 and was shot way back in 2021. Last month, King himself took to Twitter (X?) to publicly wonder where the heck the film was. “Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new ‘Salem’s Lot’ and it’s quite good,” King wrote on social media. “Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build,...

The fate of New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot has been sealed.
New Line parent company Warner Bros. Discovery will debut the vampire thriller on the streaming service Max later this year, the company said Tuesday.
No date was given, but sources believe a fourth quarter release is likely.
Veteran horror scribe Gary Dauberman, known for writing the It and Annabelle films and for helming Annabelle Comes Home, wrote and directed the movie whose distribution plans have been in flux since WarnerMedia, which owned New Line and Warner Bros., merged with Discovery Inc. in spring of 2022. The movie was originally due to hit theaters in September 2022; then after the merger, it was moved to April 2023. Later, it was taken off the theatrical release schedule completely.

Max has made it official that New Line’s feature take of Stephen King’s 1975 bestselling novel Salem’s Lot isn’t going in theaters, but on the Ott service this year. No exact date has been announced.
The buzz of this was heavily out there. It’s sort of an upset to Warner Bros Discovery: CEO David Zaslav has emphasized how he’s about theatrical, and how he doesn’t believe in straight-to-streaming movies. Salem’s Lot was expected to be another big play for New Line in the revived Stephen King big screen universe following the massive $1.1 billion global grossing success of the It franchise. In fact, the co-writer of that movie, Gary Dauberman, directed, adapted and executive produced Salem’s Lot. The movie originally occupied the post Labor Day space of 2022, a frame made rich by Warner Bros with Stephen King and Conjuring horror fare, until they pulled the...

Just over a year ago, the Peacock streaming service announced they were teaming up with genre filmmaker James Wan for a series adaptation of the 1988 bestseller Stinger, written by Robert R. McCammon (pick up a copy Here) – and even at the time, it was clear that they wouldn’t be keeping the Stinger title, because the show was being referred to as the Untitled Ian McCulloch Project, since Yellowstone consulting producer Ian McCulloch was on board to write and executive produce the show. The project is now going by the title Teacup, and not only has Peacock given it a straight-to-series order (allowing it to bypass the usual pilot process), but Deadline reports that Yvonne Strahovski, whose credits include Chuck, The Predator, The Handmaid’s Tale, Stateless, Dexter, The Tomorrow War, and He’s Out There, has signed on to play the series regular role of Maggie Chenoweth. Strahovski will also be a producer on the show.

Three years have gone by since Simu Liu made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and while we’re still waiting to hear when exactly we’re going to see his character again, Liu has been keeping busy outside of the MCU. The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres in January of last year, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel, with M3GAN 2.0 being scheduled to reach theatres on January 17, 2025… but now the release plan has changed. Instead of trying to replicate the success the first film had in January, Universal Pictures has announced that they’re delaying M3GAN 2.0. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s release has been pushed back four months, to May 16, 2025.
Based on a story crafted by produced James Wan, M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). The film has the following synopsis: She’s more than just a toy. She’s part of the family.

Simu Liu is going back to the future. Well, like, five minutes into the future.
Peacock has given a straight-to-series order for an untitled espionage series starring Liu, in which the “Barbie” actor will play first-generation-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale. He realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears.
James Wan is among the executive producers on the series, which was written and created by Thomas Brandon (“Legacies”). Other EPs on the project include Michael Clear and Rob Hackett from Wan’s Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone will oversee the project for the production company, which recently merged with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse.
Wan/Atomic Monster and UCP/Peacock are already collaborating on a contemporary horror thriller now titled “Teacup.” Ian McCulloch is writing that one, and executive producing alongside Wan.
The Liu project is one of four new series Peacock ordered Wednesday.

Soon after the release of M3GAN back in January, it was announced that the team behind the film – Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster – were aiming to replicate M3GAN‘s January theatrical success by setting a January 2024 release date for their supernatural thriller Night Swim. The movie reached theatres at the start of this month – and didn’t manage to go over as well or get as much attention as M3GAN did. While M3GAN earned over $180 million during its theatrical run, Night Swim has only pulled in about $37 million at this point. Now the movie is heading to the small screen, as it’s getting a VOD and digital release this week, on January 23rd. If you want to watch the movie in the comfort of your own home tomorrow, it will set you back $29.99 on Amazon.

This year’s first new theatrical release for the horror genre was Universal, Blumhouse and producer James Wan’s Night Swim, which we’ve learned is headed home this week.
Night Swim is available to rent or own on Digital tomorrow, January 23.
Direcred by Bryce McGuire, Night Swim was released into theaters on January 5, 2024. To date, the film has managed to scare up $36 million at the worldwide box office.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bd, “McGuire’s feature expansion [of his short film, also titled Night Swim] showcases more ways to mine terror from the aquatic concept, buoyed by a great cast, but a familiar formula and simplified mythology threaten to sink it all.”
Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, the film stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness,...
