Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon fans (read our SXSW interview) know that co-writer/co-producer David J. Stieve was instrumental in creating one of the most smart and self-aware horror films of the 2000s. Now, Stieve is looking to tap into that same vein of horror for his next project, the short film Wait For It, and you can help bring his directorial debut to life via his newly launched crowdfunding campaign.
We have official details from Stieve on Wait For It below, and to learn more (and see behind-the-scenes photos from the set), visit the short film's official Indiegogo page. And if you haven't already, check out the Indiegogo campaign for Stieve's other project, the comic book series Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon.

While in Austin at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival, I had the opportunity to catch up with a variety of folks responsible for the modern cult classic Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, which celebrated its 10th anniversary with several screenings as part of the fest’s midnight lineup. Those on hand for the interview included co-writer/director Scott Glosserman, co-writer/producer David J. Stieve, star Nathan Baesel, and co-star Ben Pace.
As it turns out, when you get a group of filmmakers who also happen to be great friends together in one room for an interview, things can get a little nutty. That being said, we have some great highlights from Daily Dead’s in-depth chat with the gang behind one of the more boundary-pushing genre films of the last several decades, including the risk involved with making Behind the Mask, the legacy of Leslie Vernon, how they...

Reality TV pioneer Mark Burnett’s former business partner Conrad Riggs has spent more than 10 hours on the stand this week, defending himself against accusations that he breached his contract with a Survivor consultant and shorted him millions of dollars in profits. In 2012 consultant Layne Leslie Britton sued Riggs, claiming he owes him $14 million in connection with his work on Survivor and other projects. The lawsuit centers on an Oct. 23, 2000 consulting agreement between the two men, who have starkly different interpretations of the contract. According to Britton’s lawsuit, in exchange for his advice and consultation on

Tis the season…for tons of sappy, lovey, ooey-gooey greetings. Either you love them or you hate them, but if you’re reading this you happen to love horror. Why not take a moment to highlight some of the most clever and fun fan-made Valentine’s Day cards floating around the interwebz. Some are simple photoshop, some are handmade art but all of them are worth passing along to your significant other. Show them you care, with carnage…
Evil Ed in Love: Not only is this an ode to the undying love between Evil Ed and Bobbi Joe, but a sly nod to The Simpsons a la little Ralph Wiggum.
Critters Hungry for Love: The Critters language has been decoded, and they love you…and your entrails.
Killer Klowns Kotton Kandy: *Shudder* Klowns man…nothing romantic about that.
Jason’s Melancholy Heart: If Jason weren't a relentless killer, he’d be a real romantic.

CBS reality competition Survivor endures, and so do the fights over the substantial money the show has generated for TV executives over the years. Read the Complaint Here In November, Layne Leslie Britton, who once served as a business affairs VP at NBC and CBS before acting as an advisor on the television project that ultimately became Survivor, sued Conrad Riggs, the former partner of Survivor creator Mark Burnett. Britton alleged that he was turned to for "business and industry advice" and that after helping create the innovative financial structure that ended up making Burnett and Riggs very rich, he

Layne Leslie Britton says that Mark Burnett’s former partner Conrad Riggs owes him more than $14 million from the profits from Survivor and other shows. In a complaint (read it here) filed today in La Superior Court, the former CBS and NBC Business Affairs VP says Riggs has not paid him properly for the advice and consulting he provided to Burnett and Riggs when Survivor debuted on CBS in mid-2000. It was only during Rigg’s own $70 million litigation with Burnett, which was settled earlier this year, that Britton claims that he learned “what Riggs consistently told him for years amounted to little more than lies and deceit.” Rigg’s Cloudbreak Entertainment signed a formal agreement with Britton in October 2000, as Britton says he helped the relatively green producers through some of the tricky and costly waters of the network TV business. For this guidance, Riggs informed the mentoring Britton...

Like the game itself, a long-running fight over millions of dollars in Survivor profits is taking a new and unexpected twist. Layne Leslie Britton, who once served as a business affairs VP at NBC and CBS before becoming a financial consultant on the television project that ultimately became Survivor, filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Conrad Riggs and his Cloudbreak Entertainment. Britton claims Riggs, the former partner of Survivor creator Mark Burnett, who previously was involved in litigation over profits from the CBS franchise, cheated him out of at least $14 million. Most Public Burning Of A Bridge: Sharon Osbourne declared she never wanted to hear from NBC again. We’re pretty sure that won’t be a problem, love.
Biggest Waste of Talent: Maya Rudolph, WIll Arnett and Christina Applegate deserve so much more than Up All Night. So to does the audience who tuned into last night’s not-so-improved second season premiere.
Toughest Trick: Survivor’s Zane managed to blindside himself by coming up with an elaborate scheme designed to oust Russell only to find himself the one whose flame was snuffed out.
Most In Need Of A Dictionary: After announcing plans for a “special” called Two Ton Killer (about a 1,000 pound woman who crushed her nephew), The Learning Channel revealed that their show Breaking Amish isn’t exactly as real as it purports. Meaning that somewhat ironically, the network does not understand the meanings of the words “special”, “real” or “learning.

Just in case you missed our Google Hangout with Whitney Mixter and Somer Bingham of The Real L Word yesterday, you can watch it all right here.
Bisexual actress Olivia Thirlby looked ravishing at the Dredd 3D premiere last night. I am loving her hair.

Speaking of bisexual, Berkeley, California is celebrating Bisexual Day on September 23. Yay!
It's Pia Sundhage's last game with the Us Women's Team today. Espnw has a great piece on her leaving, with players like Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach praising her style. Pia talked about being a Gold-medal winning coach but still having a gender barrier in the game.
If I go into a locker room where it's only women's soccer, I have the status. If I go into a locker room with men, I don't have the same status.

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, here are some queries we are going to throw at you, from shows including Once Upon a Time, 2 Broke Girls, Cougar Town, Revenge and The Big Bang Theory!
1 | Damiano’s really “delivered” on Fringe, yes?
2 | Who else thinks Spider-Man should steal some moves from Grimm‘s Black Widow?
3 | Whose waitress uniform do you suspect earns them the most inordinate amount of tips — Ruby’s on Once Upon a Time or Caroline’s on 2 Broke Girls?
4 | What was more disturbing about the Grammys: Lady Gaga...

Lamest Twist: The only thing shocking about Sunday’s “big reveal” on Dexter was that nobody on the writing staff had the foresight to realize how ridiculously predictable it was.
Sudsiest Developments: Only a few short months after becoming General Hospital’s headwriter, Garin Wolf was bumped in favor of Ron Carlivati, whose current soap, One Life To Live, finished taping two weeks ago and last airs in January. Also joining Gh? Oltl’s former executive producer, Frank Valentini, replacing longtime Gh Ep Jill Farren Phelps.
Biggest Conflict: Despite our general disdain for shameless product placements, the hilarious and heartfelt way in which Parks And Recreation continues to handle Ben and Leslie’s relationship has earned the show a pass on Thursday’s not-so-subtle advertisement for the “Li’l Sebastian Plush.” Well, that and we really really want one.
Quote Of The Week: “”Talking strategy with Brandon is like talking...

CBS is adding a trio of gay characters to the network's shows next season following a recent GLAAD report that gave the network a failing diversity grade for a second year in a row.
Addressing reporters at the semi-annual Television Critics Assn. press tour, entertainment president Nina Tassler said a gay character will be added to new comedy "$#*! My Dad Says," returning half-hour "Rules of Engagement" and legal drama "The Good Wife."
"We're disappointed in our track record so far," Tassler said. "We're going to do it. We're not happy with ourselves."
During the press session, Tassler also addressed ABC entertainment chief Steve McPherson exiting ABC and defended casting Julie Chen in yet another program.
"My first thought: 'Dammit, he got out of doing press tour,'" Tassler said about her rival's departure, drawing laughs.
Then she added: "He's a great guy, a good friend and I wish him the best.

Jesus Christ. Jesus! Christ! Last night's post-apocalyptic paint war game for priority registration episode of "Community" was so fucking bad-ass it's ridiculous. "Psych" has dared pay homage to a lot of genres during its run, but only Dan Harmon would dare to pay homage to last-man standing flicks. It brought in every cliche and trope imaginable, referencing -- among others -- The Book of Eli, Scarface, Boondock Saints, Rambo, The Matrix, "Friends," "Cheers," "Lost," and even "Glee", ending in a beautiful paint-ball Mexican stand-off and monster green-paint explosion. There were more movies and television shows referenced in 22 minutes than all of the Movie Movies. It was brilliantly inspired. Comedy-boner inducing. Nothing on any sitcom in 2010, 2011, or 2012 will top last night's episode of "Community," except maybe next week's episode of "Community." Warranted hyperbole, hyperbole, hyperbole.
Bask in its glory, y'all.
Oh yeah: Jeff and Britta totally boned, too. Repercussions to come.

Having not yet watched the latest Office (has anyone seen or heard anything about this wedding?) or It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and eliminating Friday and Saturday's television offerings (do they air shows those nights?) from my pool, I admit that the following claim might be under-researched...but you know what? I'm going to make it anyway: Last night's Parks and Recreation was the most satisfying comedy of the week. Sure, Curb Your Enthusiasm gave us the Seinfeld gang and Modern Family proved once again -- even in its weakest episode thus far -- worth all the critical fuss,...

“O divine art of subtlety and secrecy! Through you we learn to be invisible, through you inaudible; and hence we can hold the enemy’s fate in our hands.” -- Sun Tzu, The Art of War So there are two tribes in this game. I thought Galu was just the group that Foa Foa lost to in the challenges. Last night, they proved there’s a lot more happening in Samoa than the Russell Show. In an action-packed episode of hidden idols, wild chickens, and some fine bocce sharp-shooting, the strategic standout was bartender Erik, who subtly set himself up as a tribe powerbroker. No fireworks, fancy nicknames like “puppetmaster,” or property damage -- just good strategy. I’m sorry, Russell, your streak’s broken. This week’s Fishy goes to Erik. Erik starts the episode by buttering up Shambo to get the clues to the hidden immunity idol. He...

Who Knew I Was Suffering From Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? But It Explains A Lot...
In last week's column, I discussed Glee and how some of the characters felt as if they bordered a little close to being stereotypes. I said:
Created by out writer Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck) the show includes much for a good gay boy to love including an out gay character. And some of the musical numbers are flat out brilliant. But I thought the first half of the pilot was actually bad and some of the characterizations — sassy, chunky black girl, fashion-obsessed gay boy — sometimes veered too close to stereotypes. Much will depend on how those characters evolve and whether the writing holds up .
In the comments, a number of readers shared different thoughts on what I said (or thought I was saying). So this week, given Glee's popularity (and the thread going on...
