The first volleys of the Battle of Culloden have yet to be fired, but that didn’t stop Outlander from dealing one of its main characters a bloody death in Saturday’s season finale.
Dougal MacKenzie, Jamie’s headstrong and bloodthirsty uncle, met his end when Fraser himself (with a little help from Claire) pushed a blade into his chest. Dougal’s death came after he’d walked in on the Frasers talking about poisoning Prince Charles, aka the only way they could think of stopping the carnage Claire knew would happen if the skirmish against the British took place.

Tears running down his face, the seven-year-old said, "Stop, Daddy! Stop! I can't take it anymore!" Considering the strange holiday line-up that I shared with Toshi and Allen, ages ten and seven, it is little wonder it almost ended in tears. But what kind of tears and why is a little less cut and dry than I might have supposed when this recent run of programming first came together. I've been seeing someone for a little while now, and it's been nice. She's met the boys and they like her tremendously, and vice-versa. The Monday after the film opened, the four of us went to see The Force Awakens together, the second time for the kids, the first time for her, and it was a great evening. They were excited about the film, about the evening out, about Star Wars in general. She was the one who brought up The Star Wars Holiday Special...

The Show | American Crime
The Episode | “Episode 1” (Jan. 6, 2016)
The Performance | From the first moment of American Crime’s second season premiere, we could tell that Ms. Taylor’s performance would be something special — and that was before we’d even laid eyes on her. The emotion in her voice as blue-collar mom Anne reported son Taylor’s rape to the 911 dispatcher spoke volumes about not only her character’s love for her boy but also her — and, shortly, our — absolute horror over his assault.

Coming this Halloween is the new film Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse. Part comedy, part horror, director Christopher Landon’s latest movie has Scouts saving the world from the Undead. Landon says audiences will be “screaming and laughing their heads off. This movie is an amusement park ride.”
What’s better than the mashup of comedy and horror to get you shrieking in fear! Just like a Reese’s cup – peanut butter and chocolate – the two just go together. Making scary themes into funny romps, while doing it cleverly, is a hard act to pull off. The films that have done it well have become part of the zeitgeist with fans of both genres.
Before you catch Scouts vs Zombies, check out our list of the funniest horror films.

Warning: This recap contains spoilers for Outlander‘s Season 1 finale.
Deep breaths, everyone.
For months now, Outlander‘s Black Jack Randall, a sadistic Redcoat who makes Jeffrey Dahmer look like a mewling kitten in comparison, has had Jamie Fraser in his sights. In the season finale, Randall slakes his desire by taking command of not only the Scot’s body but also his soul.
I was gonna write, “The latter is harder to watch,” but that’s just not true. Both Jamie’s rape and its psychological aftereffects are horrifying, compelling, awful and expertly acted, and they provoke so many reactions/conversations,...

Taylor Swifts’ relationship status remains to be in a “Blank Space.”
The 1975 singer, Matt Healy, finally set the record straight after months of speculation that the two were involved in a romance.
“It’s bloody fake, it’s all fake, it’s all a farce,” Matt revealed in an interview with Australia’s 2DayFM show Shazam Top 20 with Angus and Ash. “We met each other, we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do and we spoke occasionally and then she’s the biggest pop star in the world. I’m in Australia, there’s no relationship or anything happening, it’s funny how people really really buy into that.”
News: Taylor Swift Can't Picture Dating a Guy Right Now
The relationship rumors began in November after Taylor attended The 1975 concert at The Palladium in New York City with her BFFs Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding.

Every year, we here at Sound On Sight celebrate the month of October with 31 Days of Horror; and every year, I update the list of my favourite horror films ever made. Last year, I released a list that included 150 picks. This year, I’ll be upgrading the list, making minor alterations, changing the rankings, adding new entries, and possibly removing a few titles. I’ve also decided to publish each post backwards this time for one reason: the new additions appear lower on my list, whereas my top 50 haven’t changed much, except for maybe in ranking. I am including documentaries, short films and mini series, only as special mentions – along with a few features that can qualify as horror, but barely do.

Something we find fascinating about some of our favorite horror flicks is the fact that the heroes and heroines are sometimes the last person you would peg as the sole hope for humanity. Never once have I taken a trip to the grocery store and thought the gum-chewing clerk ringing up the new issue of GQ and a bag of Meow Mix for me is going to some day save me from the zombie apocalypse, demonic possession, or a blood-thirsty pack of lycanthropes. But, the fact of the matter is that the seemingly unassuming store clerk may be the only hope for humanity. He or she may just have the cunning and instinct of a fox, the wit of a college professor and the strength of a competitive bodybuilder. But, their exceptional skill set may be lying dormant, waiting to be awoken by unforeseen catastrophe or malady. Such has been...

Sequels are awesome, plain and simple. Returning to familiar characters and worlds we love is like covering yourself with a warm blanket, although when a sequel is bad it can be like a blanket covered in potato bugs and lice. Studios love sequels because seven times out of ten they open huge, no matter how good they are.
With that in mind, here's 50 of your favorite titles all preparing to get new installments. Some of them are deep into pre-production while others have barely gotten out of the pitch stages, but you'll be salivating at the thought of some of these sweet babies finally making their way to the screen.

Alongside Quentin Tarantino, Danny Boyle is one of the few filmmakers who knows exactly how to meld sound and image to enhance the moviegoing experience. The Oscar-winning director sent Ewan McGregor storming down a Scotland street for Trainspotting to Iggy Pop, while Cillian Murphy wandered through the deserted streets of London in 28 Days Later to the eerie sound of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Boyle's latest movie Trance is an equally memorable sonic experience, as the director continues his working relationship with Underworld's Rick Smith. To mark the film's release, Digital Spy has picked out 10 great songs or musical tracks from Danny Boyle's back catalogue.

The prior four articles of the good and ugly in comedy horror, all of it was in the run down to this final part. We’ve looked at Frank Henenlotter, Joe Dante, and an unfathomable number of pratfalls, puns, sarcastic one liners and gore, gore, gore. If you’re favourite comedy horror hasn’t appeared, tell us what it is in the comments section below. Maybe a variation on this article will appear in 12 months with some of those omissions included.

Wallace & Gromit And The Curse Of The Were-rabbit
Wallace & Gromit made their debut feature length with one of best horror homages in many a year. Maybe that’s a biased viewpoint as a Brit, Wallace and his pet dog can do no wrong on these shores.

Throughout the month of October, Editor-in-Chief and resident Horror expert Ricky D, will be posting a list of his favorite Horror films of all time. The list will be posted in six parts. Click here to see every entry.
As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. It was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried and eventually gave up.
****
50: Thundercrack!
Directed by Curt McDowell
Written by George Kuchar
1975, USA
Thunderstruck! is by far the most obscure film you will find on this list. It is without a doubt one of the true landmarks of Underground cinema. With a screenplay by veteran underground film maker George Kuchar (story and characters by Mark Ellinger) and directed Curt McDowell (than student of Kuchar),
Thundercrack! is a work of a crazed genius.

The supermarket is one of the centers of the community. It's a place where neighbors go to buy their groceries while catching up with each other. They exchange stories, laughs and gossip in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. That's a nice picture, but unfortunately it's not always the case in reality.
In fact, as we get further and further from the "Leave it to Beaver" era, the supermarkets we visit are usually "superstores" and almost never owned by a member of the community anymore. But maybe there is something to be said for a place where you can go to buy a pound of baloney, a prom dress and get an oil change all in one stop…and we wonder why "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" is the hottest show on television. Save us from the superstore.
This leads us to Bait 3D (review here). This all-new horror film hits DVD...

Dana Fredsti is a writer and an actress with a background in theatrical sword-fighting. She has appeared in Army of Darkness and her love of zombies has resulted in Plague Town, a zombie novel that was released earlier this month. We recently had a chance to ask her some questions, and learned more about the inspiration for the novel, working on Army of Darkness, and who she’d want on her zombie survival team.
Dana and Titan Books are also giving readers a chance to participate in the Plague Town Pandemic Tour, where the winner will receive a signed copy of the book and will have a character named after them in the next novel in the series:
“Plague Town Pandemic Tour: Stop 6 - A zombie virus of guest articles, Q&As and excerpts from new urban fantasy novel, Plague Town, will be infecting websites, blogs and social media accounts...

They may not be household names like their A-list colleagues, but the actors on this list have appeared in some of our all-time favourite geek movies...
Some actors dabble in sci-fi; others dip their toe into fantasy; some may even make an appearance in the odd horror film - all before returning to the safety of the genres in which they feel more comfortable - perhaps a nice, award-chasing period drama, or a well-paid romantic comedy.
A-listers may see the geeky films that we on this site enjoy and celebrate as fun little side-projects, but there are actors out there who commit full-time to these types of movies. It is high time, therefore, that we credited these individuals with the recognition they deserve.
Besides the stipulation that, in order to be included, an actor had to still be alive and working today, there were no strict criteria that had to...

Chicago – Eli Craig’s debut is a smart, funny horror movie, which means it will have a Huge shelf life on Blu-ray and DVD. This is the kind of piece that gets passed around via word of mouth and Facebook recommendations. It fell relatively flat at the box office, but gory horror movies like this one were meant to be watched at home or in dorm rooms where I expect this film will take off over the next few years. See the future cult hit now.

For all our MoreHorror readers recovering from the tryptophan induced stupor we call Thanksgiving, boy do we have a treat for you. What better way to celebrate the recent release of the Evil Dead II: 25th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray than to talk to the man behind the special effects and some of the most amazing visuals in horror movie history: the legendary Greg Nicotero.
If you've seen little productions like Day of the Dead, In the Mouth of Madness, From Dusk 'Til Dawn, Scream, The Cell, Masters of Horror, The Mist and most recently The Walking Dead than you are very familiar with his enormous body of work. I was fortunate enough to chat with the man who literally changed the face of horror before he had to run off to celebrate turkey day.

Choosing my favourite horror films of all time is like choosing between my children – not that I have children, but if I did, I am sure I would categorize them quite like my DVD collection. As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. Also, it was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried. I based my list taking into consideration three points:
1- Technical accomplishments / artistry and their influence on the genre.
2- How many times I’ve revisited the films and how easily it makes for a repeated viewings.
3- Its story, atmosphere and how much it affected me when I first watched them.
Finally, there are many great films such as The Witchfinder General, The Wickerman and even Hour Of The Wolf that won’t appear here. I...

About three weeks ago, I wrote an article announcing Shadowlocked's involvement in this year's Telluride Horror Show and my role as 'Master Host'. Some of you have been wondering what films will be on tap for those in attendance, and lemme tell ya, there are some real doozies. Whether their horror tastes lie with the moody and atmospheric or with over the top fountains of gore, fright fans will find that the Horror Show has something for everyone this year.
Back by popular demand is the extremely popular horror/comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, one of last year's Horror Show crown jewels returning for a repeat performance. Also on tap is The Tunnel, an Australian horror in the 'found footage' genre. Director Carlo Ledesma and producers Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey will be in attendance. Making their United States debuts are shoot-o-rama The Scarlet Worm and tournament-style gorefest Monster Brawl.

In this week's Music in the Movies, we pick out ten of cinema's finest non-score soundtracks...
Having focused mainly on scores in this column, I thought I’d turn my attention to soundtracks that consist mainly of sourced material. And just to make the list a little more balanced, I've made sure to only choose one film per director...

Video game movie tie-in’s have a difficult reputation to shake. Often produced cheaply and quickly to simply increase the profit and awareness of an upcoming movie, they are normally best avoided. Recent blockbusters like Iron Man 2 have followed this trend with lousy efforts, whilst consoles in the 80′s and 90′s were completely over-saturated with bad movie games. The awful Atari game based on Et was responsible for 1983′s video games crash, with the silly alien almost putting an abrupt end to the future of gaming.
In recent years, games based on movies are generally increasing in quality, with many developers putting care and attention into making something faithful to the film itself. In 2005 Rockstar brought us a brilliant beat-em-up based on The Warriors , while last years Toy Story 3 was a respectable and surprisingly deep game which even adults could enjoy.

A few TV tidbits to brighten up your Monday afternoon.
To make up for the loss of an expected eight episodes of "Two and a Half Men" due to Charlie Sheen's rehab stint, CBS has ordered an extra four episodes of "Mike & Molly" and "Rules of Engagement." This brings both of those series to a total of 26 episodes this season. There has been no talk of shooting episodes of "Two and a Half Men" around Sheen's absence. [THR]
"Smallville" creators are considering a two-hour finale. Laura Vandervoort is likely to return as Kara Kent, Aka Supergirl. [TV Guide]
Oprah Winfrey has ordered two new original series for Own: "Searching for..." follows a professional genealogist and New Jersey housewife. "Breaking Down the Bars" looks at female prisoners trying to change their lives. Both shows premiere in mid-February. [THR]

Being a zombie movie fan, I’ve sat through some great ones (Fulci’s Zombie) and some real junk like Children of the Living Dead, but no matter what I go into all of them with an open mind and hoping for the best. Is this the one that finally tops Fulci’s or another one that causes my mind to wander and ponder life’s great mysteries—like Freddie Prinze, Jr. having an acting career.
One thing I never look forward to is the zombie comedy. They never turn out scary or funny because the filmmaker tries too hard to make them so. Obviously, there are exceptions like Shaun of the Dead and the relatively unknown Dance of the Dead. Granted, the whole concept of the dead coming back to life to eat the living is ridiculous enough (although when they die, I’m posting a...

They may not be real, but they still know how to rock. We celebrate the ten best fictional bands in the movies...
The story of a group of friends getting together to start a band is almost as old as film itself, and some of the bands here did so well they even put out albums in real life.

There are so many great horror comedies out there and its a sub genre of the horror genre that I have loved for a very long time. There are tons of great horror-comedies out there but I wanted to take a minute to highlight a few that I consider to be the best. So without further ado here are the seven horror comedies that I consider some of the best! Below each selection is the films trailer so you can check it out! All of these films since they are not especially new are available I am sure at your local retailer or online retailers for a steal! Make note this list is in no particular order.

Chicago – Just as Edgar Wright’s “Shaun of the Dead” was a wonderful homage to the work of George A. Romero, I feel like Tommy Wirkola’s highly-buzzed Nazi zombie film “Dead Snow” is an ode to the work accomplished by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell in the films of the “Evil Dead” series. Not only is Ash, Campbell’s character, directly mentioned by a character in the film but the style, story, and even amputations are straight out of the ‘Cult of Ash’. Being inspired by horror greatness doesn’t always lead to quality itself, but this cult-hit-in-the-making nearly lives up to its gory ancestors and will clearly have a loyal following for years to come.

Echo Bridge Entertainment's newest zomedy unfortunately isn't as funny as it thinks it is. Last of the Living is Shaun of the Dead meets Napoleon Dynamite that follows three survivors of a zombi apocalypse. The slackers Morgan, Ash and Johnny spend their days drinking beer and watching movies in various abandoned mansions, until they stumble upon a woman who may have the cure for the flesh-eating outbreak. The three friends must then decide if they would rather risk their lives to save the human race, or continue with their new found lives of doing nothing.

We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but all those zombies roaming the land aren’t gonna kill themselves. But you can have a multiplex-like experience at home with a collection of the right DVDs. And when someone asks you on Monday, “Hey, did you see Zombieland this weekend?” you can reply, “No, I fought the undead scourge from the safety of my sofa, with laughter as my weapon.” Instead Of: Zombieland, in which nebbish Jesse Eisenberg and kickass Woody Harrelson team up to kill the walking undead in a zombie-ravaged America, and have a blast doing it... Watch: Shaun of the Dead (2004), with which this flick will inevitably be compared; though they are very different -- Zombieland isn’t a parody, as Shaun is -- they do share a certain sly disdain for the conventions of zombie horror. The undead are on the march,...

Zombies. An anal-retentive kid who thinks stretching is important. Blood. An older, unstoppable force of weirdness who knows how to kick undead arse. Zombies. A tough and irresistible love interest determined to keep little sis safe. Blood. There's pretty much nothing about Zombieland that I'm not loving. In fact, the new red band trailer you can see after the jump (from MySpace) just makes it all the more irresistible.
Adding a little sass to the already great trailer released in June, the red band version actually flushes out a little more of the story, character quirks, and the complete range of zombies these guys are up against -- strippers, kids, bear-like men, you name it.
The allure of the film isn't really surprising, considering the unbeatable cast -- stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin -- plus supporting stints that include Bill Murray, Amber Heard, and Mike White.

Just when I thought that there wasn't much more to be squeezed out of the zombie movie fad along comes the screenplay for Zombieland and convinces me that there's still great stories that can be told about the walking dead.
If you were like me before I read the Zombieland script you were likely wondering if all that needed to be said about zombie situational comedy was already said and done in 2004's Shaun of the Dead. I mean, just how much humor can anyone squeeze out of shambling corpses that rise up and want to eat the flesh of the living? Dubiously I went into reading the Zombieland script with those thoughts but by the end I had seen the light: in the hands of capable writers like Zombieland's Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick there's a lot of humor still left to be mined about the zombie apocalypse.

These days the one question that everybody seems to be asking me is, in their oh-so eloquent way, “what’s up with the new Raimi movie…any good?” Now that I’ve seen it, I am very happy to be able to report, yes…yes it is.
The reviews are already in for Drag Me To Hell and I think Michael Gingold (of Fangoria - read his take here) and Allan Dart (of Starlog - read his take here) sum it up very nicely. So if you’re interested in accurate analyses from writers that really seem to get the film and Raimi’s sensibilities, I wholeheartedly recommend you give those reviews a “gander”. Since I’m coming late to the party, I’m going to avoid giving my thoughts strictly about the film and instead take a brief look at Mr. Raimi, his style and his work.

Wow, we've been following this bloody film forever and unfortunately nither the production company nor the sales agent would bother to respond to our emails (that's real smart considering we have your target audience). Too late now as it's getting a May 11th R2 release in the good old UK, so we should have a review for you about that time (and I'm excited to see it). Lotl is out of New Zealand and it sounds a tad like Shaun of the Dead, and it's also cute when people don't have access to firearms in their own countries. (Note: I have an arsenal, bring that sh*t on!)
A highly contagious virus is spreading throughout the land. With one bite, it's only hours before victims will turn into zombies and hunt for human flesh. Morgan, Ash, and Johnny might just be the only humans left, but they don't seem to...

Bruce Campbell is a cult hero. Who can ever dislodge the image of a crazed "S-Mart" salesman who snipped off his arm, replaced it with a twelve guage shotgun and kicked some monster booty in hilarious horror comedies like one of our favorites, "Army of Darkness." Campbell directs and stars in this film in the same genre which Mark Verheiden (new "Battlestar Galactica" series and "Smallville") writers. Bruce Campbell fans will obviously not want to skip this one. Personally, I think "Bubba Ho-tep" is one of the most hilarious comedies I've seen for a long time. Check out images, the poster and the trailer above for the indie!
