Short of the DayOR, The Gravitational Price of Greed.
What would you do if you discovered a black hole? I’m not talking about the celestial variety, those massive swirling vortices of baryonic matter that bend time and space and eat planets like Milk Duds, I mean like a portable one, one that could fit on, say, a standard 8½ x 11” piece of printer paper? It still has all the properties of the larger version, but in a handy, compact size perfect for toting about your routine. Would you use it for good, to help others in need, or would you use it for your own, selfish, personal gain? Like most folks, myself included, you probably like to think it would be the former but know deep down it’s the latter, especially when you start considering all the possibilities. No doors are locked to he who owns a black hole, no...

Never one to sit on his laurels (or indeed, even take a day off from working), Tom Hardy has attached himself to yet another movie, this time an indie drama called “Samarkand”. Based on a script by bros Greg and Olly Williams (with Greg scheduled to make his feature film directorial debut on the movie), “Smarkdand” would find Hardy playing “a British special forces soldier returning from the Middle East with post-traumatic stress disorder” who then struggles “to re-integrate into society after his tour of duty with the British regiment, the Sas.” Hardy previously worked with the brothers on the short film “Sergeant Slaughter – My Big Brother”, though when he’ll time to actually do “Samarkand” in-between the 20 other films he’s currently got going on is anybody’s guess. Then again, who needs sleep? Here’s a look at the full “Sergeant Slaughter” short film, which co-stars Ben Macleod...

Lawless and Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy is set to star in a war drama called Samarkand. In it he'll play a special forces soldier who returns from the Middle East with post-traumatic stress disorder.
THR describes the character as "a soldier struggling to re-integrate into society after his tour of duty with the British regiment the Sas."
it sounds like it will be an intense film and a good role for Hardy to flex those acting muscles. The script was written by Greg and Olly Williams, and they're developing the movie with Hardy over at Solar Pictures. Greg Williams will direct the movie, and it will be a first for him.
I have no doubt Hardy will be great in the film. ...

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Tom Hardy is working with Solar Pictures on a new indie film Samarkand, about a British soldier returning home from duty in the Middle East with post-traumatic stress disorder (Ptsd).
It might be difficult for Bane fans to look at Hardy in a different role for awhile but I’m confident Hardy will put on a great performance. I can’t think of a recent British film that has dealt with a character returning from the Middle East and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. American films like Jarhead, The Hurt Locker and Home of the Brave a couple of American non-documentary films that have dealt with the subject.
This will be the Greg and Olly Williams’ debut film after Greg Williams’ short film: Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother which won best director at several American short film festivals. Watch the trailer for Sergeant Slaughter,...

Are we in the middle of a short‑film revolution? Not long ago, if you wanted to catch short work by exciting new film-makers, you had to travel to a festival, hunt down a compilation on DVD, catch a charitable showing on TV or, if you were uncommonly lucky, before the main feature at the cinema. Now all you have to do, assuming you have internet access and a passing familiarity with video-hosting websites, is switch on your computer.

Here is a short film that I missed this past May when it was part of the Cannes Short Film Corner. Philip Sansom & Olly Williams aka Diamond Dogs have shot music videos and a couple commercials. The Black Hole is a two and a half minute short film about a "sleep deprived office worker who finds a Black Hole whilst photocopying late one night Suddenly the possibilities seem endless. Will greed get the better of him?" Check out the short film embedded after the jump.
