Alligators, men falling from the ceiling and going to church: just another day in the life of OneRepublic. The pop-rock band is about to premiere the new music video to "Counting Stars" tomorrow (May 31) and gave HitFix the exclusive look behind-the-scenes of the shoot. British director James Lees -- who's worked on vids with Bloc Party and Two Door Cinema Club -- helms the clip, which was shot in the basement of an old church in New Orleans. The Colorado band describes wanting to bring on a Brit for their use of color, but they actually appear to end up...

From attention-grabbing promos to thoughtful documentaries, a new crop of directors is creating innovative and daring pictures that are cheap to make, easy to share, and finding an audience as never before. Here, we speak to those responsible for some of the best
Are we in the middle of a short‑film revolution? Not long ago, if you wanted to catch short work by exciting new film-makers, you had to travel to a festival, hunt down a compilation on DVD, catch a charitable showing on TV or, if you were uncommonly lucky, before the main feature at the cinema. Now all you have to do, assuming you have internet access and a passing familiarity with video-hosting websites, is switch on your computer.
The curious thing about short films is that, regardless of audience and financial incentive, people have continued to make them with great enthusiasm. This is in part because...

Disclaimer: please forgive my deplorable, albeit thoroughly intended, misquotation from The Royal Teens seminal 1958 release, 'Short Shorts'. A while back I promised you another special selection from the mystical and capricious world of short films. I'm quite sure you have all been logging in every evening, with twitching fingers, in the hope that I have finally provided another volume of filmic vignettes and music videos; and crashing backwards with a heavy sigh when you realise that no such post has been created. Well sigh no more my enthusiastic readers... for volume II has arrived: Music Videos: Florence + The Machine: The Ganzfeld Procedure Dir: Keith McCarthy / UK / 2009 BBC Electric Proms, in partnership with 6Music, commissioned this New Music Short. Filmmakers were asked to submit creative ideas for short films inspired by Florence + The Machine's 'Dog Days Are Over'. Selected from over 225 entries, Keith worked with producers at Colonel Blimp to create this sporadic,...

I was having an argument with myself yesterday on the way home from work. It got quite heated. I was assessing the length of time it takes me to get home, and thus attempting to gauge roughly how much free time I would have before sleep stole me away for the night. And surely this is the normal thing to do? I wasn’t exactly going to say “right, its 6:54 now and I’ll probably hit the sack around midnight, so that gives me 5 hours and 6 minutes of free time”. That would be absurd. Rounding...
