Edward Herrmann, the actor who portrayed Richard Gilmore on Gilmore Girls, died in 2014, but the home he loved so much was just sold by his widow nearly a decade after his passing. The sprawling Connecticut compound Herrmann called home was listed for sale in December 2023, but the final sale just went through.
Edward Herrmann’s Connecticut home has been sold
Edward Herrmann’s Salisbury, Connecticut, home officially has a new owner. The sale went through on March 20, and the new owner will enjoy six spacious bedrooms, a vintage kitchen, and a sprawling library. The property is situated on several acres of land not far from the town center.

While the home languished on the market for several months, it has officially been sold. The house was initially listed for $2.7 million. The price was slashed in February to $2.4 million. Still, the lowered price wasn’t enough to entice a new owner,...

Lorelai, Rory, and Emily Gilmore may have been family, but each woman had a unique personality, desires, and expectations. Emily, the Gilmore family matriarch, was proper and poised. Lorelai was free-spirited and fun, and Rory was studious but prone to anxiety and insecurities. While each Gilmore lady was unique, they proved they had at least one thing in common during Gilmore Girls. All three women had a gift for party and event planning.
Emily Gilmore was an organizational mastermind with an eye for perfection
Emily Gilmore never held a job in a traditional sense. She moved from her parents’ house to the sorority house, to the home she shared with Richard Gilmore. Emily seemed to have some insecurity about that over the years, but her contributions to her family and their life should never be forgotten.

Gilmore Girls fans watched Rory Gilmore grow up. The famed character first appeared on screen as a 15-year-old high school sophomore, and fans bid her farewell as an Ivy League graduate. While Rory was kind, driven, and likable, she also had some negative qualities. Do Rory Gilmore’s positive and negative qualities align with the characteristics of her astrological sign? In many ways, yes.
What is Rory Gilmore’s astrological sign?
How much do astrological signs factor into things when a writer is creating a character? That largely depends on the writer. Gilmore Girls creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, has never spoken openly about whether she considered astrology when crafting her characters. Still, we can’t help but think she might have, at least when it came to Rory Gilmore.

Gilmore Girls fans have spent years debating all aspects of the famed dramedy, but only a few people have stopped to question where the Gilmores family name came from. The show’s key costumer, Valerie Campbell, recently revealed what inspired the family’s surname and the show’s title. Apparently, the Gilmore name was inspired by Gilmore Oil, a famed oil company from the early 1900s. Does that mean Richard Gilmore’s father was an oil tycoon, though?
‘Gilmore Girls’ key costumer reveals how the series got its name
It feels like almost every aspect of Gilmore Girls has been openly discussed and debated. Still, key costumer Valerie Campbell continues to entertain and excite fans with fun tidbits from her time on the set on TikTok. In February, Campbell revealed what inspired showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino to give the Gilmore family their surname. Campbell explained that Sherman-Palladino named the Gilmore family,...

Gilmore Girls had several important plot points that drove the story forward. Lorelai Gilmore’s teen pregnancy was the thread that wove everything together. Lorelai’s pregnancy was mentioned countless times during the show’s seven-season run. While Emily Gilmore assured Rory Gilmore that she was never seen as a “mistake,” there were certainly a lot of hard feelings about the expectations Lorelai never fulfilled. So, what would Lorelai Gilmore’s life looked like if she hadn’t gotten pregnant? The show hinted at it multiple times.
If Lorelai Gilmore had never gotten pregnant, she probably would have gone to Vassar College
Lorelai’s teen pregnancy ended her academic career as she knew it, but Lorelai wasn’t a wayward teen who happened to get pregnant. Apparently, Lorelai was rather bright and had a ton of potential. Richard and Emily Gilmore expected Lorelai to leave her prep school and head on to Vassar College.

You only need to be on one episode of Gilmore Girls to make a lasting impression. Linda Gehringer knows that because she played Pennilyn Lott. Pennilyn was Richard Gilmore (Edward Hermann)’s fiance before Emily (Kelly Bishop). Lorelai calls Pennilyn her “almost mommy.” Given that connection, many Gilmore Girls cast members expected to see Pennilyn return.
Linda Gehringer | Justin Baker/Getty Images
Gehringer was a guest on Scott Patterson’s I Am All In podcast on Dec. 8 to discuss her single moment of being in the Gilmore Girls cast. Patterson asked if it was ever suggested Pennilyn return, and Gehringer said her co-stars certainly expected her to.
The ‘Gilmore Girls’ cast didn’t think Pennilyn Lott was a one and done character
Richard may have broken off his engagement to Pennilyn, but he didn’t cut her out of his life. Pennilyn and Richard met for an annual lunch, although...

Full freaking circle.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life; Fall brings Rory, Lorelai, and Emily to their new paths after a year of change.
There are some finales that go down in history for their perfection, for the careful care that's paid to find a balance that gives fans what they want, while also serving the characters whom they took a long journey with.
Not every show can have an ending like Cheers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or Breaking Bad.
Some shows suffer from the creator staying devoted to an ending before the story is finished being told. (We all remember the divisive How I Met Your Mother Finale.)
“Fall” gives viewers many beautiful tear inducing moments, and special nods to the magic that was the core of Gilmore Girls.
Dean: What are you gonna you say?
Rory: That you were the greatest boyfriend alive. That you were, um,...

It's been nine years since we said goodbye to Rory Gilmore as she went off on the campaign trail with Barak Obama, Luke and Lorelai reunited, and Stars Hollow threw one hell of a going away party for the Gilmore Girls.
But that ending wasn't enough.
Longtime fans of the series were unsatisfied. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino had been at the helm of the series for six years. But they left before the show was finished, and the story that they were telling was placed on hold, replaced with stories that felt like the Upside Down of Stranger Things.
Everything looked about right. But everything and everyone was just way off base.
So we flash-forward, nine years later. The stars aligned and the Gilmore Girls are back on Netflix, sans Richard (Edward Herrmann passed away in 2014 leaving a gaping hole in the Gilmore family), with the...

Gilmore Girls has finally come to a close the way creator Amy Sherman-Palladino originally intended for her series to end, but there are still numerous questions that remain unanswered.

Forget about the now-infamous final four words of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.” Lauren Graham couldn’t even make herself read the final script for Netflix’s four-part revival series.
“For the longest time, I couldn’t read ‘Fall,’ which is our last episode,” the actress told a small group of reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour in late July. “I was like, ‘This is psychotic. I have to read where this ends up.’ But I think I was both worried it wouldn’t be satisfying and also kind of just wanted to save it. Eventually I read it, and it was very satisfying.”

When the residents of Stars Hollow reconvened for Netflix’s highly-anticipated revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life, one key member of the Gilmore family was missing: Edward Herrmann.
The actor, who played the distinguished family patriarch Richard Gilmore for seven seasons on the original Gilmore Girls series, passed away in 2014 at age 71 after a battle with brain cancer.
In the revival, which debuts Nov. 26, the cast and crew made certain he was there in spirit. His character Richard has also died on the show — but his memory provides key story points as his family processes his loss.

Move over, “Pretty Little Liars.” The “Gilmore Girls” are back in town, literally.
For Netflix’s revival, the “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” production team had the daunting task of recreating all of the original Stars Hollow sets that were so essential to the series’ quirky but charming small-town feel and storylines. Part of the problem was that most of the structures originally used on Warner Bros.’s Burbank, Calif. backlot were repurposed for the sets on Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars.”

Although Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) had her fair share of boyfriends on “Gilmore Girls,” she wouldn’t let them get in the way of her ambitions. Ultimately, she chose more life experience over marriage at the end of the series.
But now with Netflix’s revival “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” nearly 10 years have passed and Rory is back in Stars Hollow… and so are all of her exes. Over the course of four installments tied to each of the four seasons — winter, spring, summer and fall — we’ll see if Rory still feels sparks with any of them.

Returning to Stars Hollow is many “Gilmore Girls” fans’ dream, but Scott Patterson didn’t find it that simple.

It's almost time for us to check back in with Lorelai and Rory Gilmore!
Yes, after all these years, the show is returning for a short stint on Netflix.
Who would have thought it would wind up on Netflix of all places?
I mean, the show has aired on both The WB and The CW, so it was odd that it wound up on the streaming giant.
The signature pop culture references are well and truly back and we just can't wait to see what fast dialog the Gilmore women have in store for us.
It's not a full season we're getting, but it's the next best thing.
It's essentially four movies that will span a whole year.
We know there are a lot of past characters returning.
We can't wait to see the likes of Liza Weil and Melissa McCarthy.

It should be intriguing to find out just what...

Welcome back to Stars Hollow! "Gilmore Girls" stars Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) and Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) are on the new cover of Entertainment Weekly, which has the first official photos and details on the Netflix revival.
There's no official release date yet, but four 90-minute mini movies are expected on the streaming service later this year. EW visited the Warner Bros. soundstage in February, and the magazine (on newsstands Friday) has scoop on Rory's career (looks like she's a teacher); Lorelai and Luke (Scott Patterson); guest stars like Sutton Foster and Mae Whitman (and apparently Sally Struthers, seen in a photo below); and Emily's (Kelly Bishop) life as a widow, after the death of Edward Herrmann, who played her husband, Richard Gilmore.
Plus, there are reportedly plans for more movies after this 2016 batch. Maybe Melissa McCarthy can return as Sookie in a future installment, since the timing was off this time around.

A lot of attention has been paid to who may or may not be participating in Netflix’s Gilmore Girls revival. But series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino‘s still reeling from the loss of the one person who definitely won’t be back: the late Edward Hermann, who played patriarch Richard Gilmore during the show’s original seven-season run.

"The Gilmore Girls" are back!
To much glee on Twitter, multiple outlets confirmed with sources that Netflix is reviving the beloved WB/CW dramedy for a four-episode limited series. It would be written by creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who left the series prior to the final season.
The episodes would be 90 minutes each, functioning more as mini-movies; "Gilmore Girls" is reportedly a top performer for Netflix. Stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, and Kelly Bishop are all in talks to reprise their roles.
"Gilmore Girls" ran for seven seasons, from 2000-2007, originally on the WB and then on the CW. Netflix is at it again, reviving much-loved shows that we thought long dead. They did it with Arrested Development, and now they’re giving Gilmore Girls – which went off the air in 2007 - the same treatment.
The online streaming giant has reached a deal with Warner Bros. to produce new episodes, and negotiations with the show’s stars are just beginning.
Although it might be tough to find room in the schedules of Melissa McCarthy (now a Hollywood star in her own right, with the likes of Spy under her belt and Ghostbusters on the way) and Sean Gunn (now in dual roles as both a Ravager and the physical embodiment of Rocket Racoon for his brother’s Guardians Of The Galaxy movies), with any luck, the...

Can’t keep the Gilmore Girls apart! Prior to the massive cast reunion panel at the Atx Television Festival on Saturday, June 6, the Gilmore Girls’ leads and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino taped a special one-hour interview with the Today show. The segment, which featured Jared Padalecki, Kelly Bishop, Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, and Scott Patterson, touched on the crazy scripts, similarities between character and actor, and each star’s audition for the show. But they couldn’t get through the interview without discussing the late Edward Herrmann (Richard Gilmore), who passed [...]...

This weekend's Atx Fest hosted a major milestone: A reunion of (almost) the entire cast of "Gilmore Girls," including Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, Danny Strong, Jackson Douglas, Matt Czuchry, Keiko Agena, Liza Weil, Liz Torres, Sean Gunn, and Yanic Truesdale. (Sadly, Edward Herrmann, who played Grandpa Richard Gilmore, passed away last year. Melissa McCarthy, meanwhile, is off being an international superstar.) The beloved WB series will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year, and since a new generation of fans is now discovering the show on Netflix, festival organizers thought it was high time to get the Stars Hollow gang back together for some reminiscing.
In a panel moderated by Entertainment Weekly, as well as a separate one-on-one interview with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, cast and crew spilled about their memories of shooting the pilot, which couples wound up together, and how Sherman-Palladino had...

Fans hoping for breaking news out of the Gilmore Girls reunion Saturday night were about as disappointed as Logan (Matt Czuchry) was after Rory (Alexis Bledel) spurned his super public proposal.
Though the cast isn't filming a movie, the Atx Television Festival Panel hosted by Entertainment Weekly did stir up some hilarious and even heartbreaking revelations.
Here are five things we learned from the panel Saturday night:
1. Jared Padalecki wasn't the original Dean.
While reminiscing about the first day on set, Lorelai Gilmore herself admitted Rory's first boyfriend was almost played by another actor.
"There was another Dean," Lauren Graham said.

We sadly have more bad news for TV fans, as Edward Hermann passed away. He was most famous for her role in Gilmore Girls as Richard Gilmore, the father and grandfather of the hit series. He had an impressive acting resume that included roles in The Good Wife and Greys Anatomy. He was 71 and died in the ICU after failing to recover from a recent health issue caused by brain cancer. His wife and children had him removed off his respirator. No word on if this will mess with the upcoming Gilmore Girls reunion.

We’re sad to report that Edward Herrmann has passed away at the age of 71.
According to Deadline, Edward Herrmann passed away in New York this morning of brain cancer. About one year ago, Herrmann was diagnosed with a “Stage 4 glioblastoma brain tumor.”
When you think of Herrmann’s 40+ year acting career, the words “durable”, “eclectic”, and “classy” may come to mind. A Bucknell University graduate, Herrmann cut his teeth in theatre before making his credited feature film debut in 1973’s The Paper Chase. Later that same decade, Herrmann portrayed two iconic real-life characters in TV movies: United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1976’s Eleanor and Franklin and 1977’s Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years and New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig in 1978’s A Love Affair: The Eleanor and Lou Gehrig Story.

Character actor Edward Herrmann has died at the age of 71. The news was first reported by TMZ and confirmed by Buzzfeed. Herrmann's career spanned over four decades and it's no wonder that he's being memorialized today in different ways by different generations of film, TV and theater audiences. Most recently, Herrmann was beloved for his performance as Richard Gilmore on The WB's "Gilmore Girls." The performance capped years as one of Hollywood's go-to actors for roles as patrician parents, lofty corporate board members and other ostensibly rigid WASPs. The catch with Richard Gilmore was that while he was introduced as seemingly out-of-touch and disapproving when it came to daughter Lorelai, his warmth for both his estranged progeny and for granddaughter Rory was a key source of "Gilmore Girls" heart. Herrmann and Kelly Bishop's parts could have been marginalized, what with The WB's focus on young female viewers, but the...
