Chromeo have announced their new album Adult Contemporary, out on February 16th, 2024. Along with the news, they’ve shared another single called “Personal Effects.”
Now nearly 20 years into their time as a band, Adult Contemporary sees Chromeo’s Dave 1 (Dave Macklovitch) and P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) “exploring what it means to be funky in your 30s and 40s.” The album’s 14 tracks — which also include singles “Replacements” and “(I Don’t Need A) New Girl” — attempt to navigate mid-life relationships, riding all the ebbs and flows into a new chapter.
“Personal Effects” is funky indeed, built on a disco-inspired bass line and embellished with sleek synths. On it, Chromeo meditate on the immediate lingering aftermath of a breakup: “She knew just what she was doing/ Leaving her personal effects behind/ I know I’ll find them one night and she’ll probably be on my mind,” Dave 1 sings, perhaps alluding...

Chromeo are back with their third single of 2023, a high-energy electro-pop song entitled “(I Don’t Need A) New Girl.” Listen to the track below.
With an upbeat bass line taking center stage, the arrangement on “(I Don’t Need A) New Girl” shows off Chromeo’s sound at its best. Layers of synths, funky electric guitar stabs, and a disco-esque beat all come together beneath the surface, elevating the duo’s vocals. Add in the lyrics celebrating a newfound love that’s here to say, and the single shapes up to be a pretty solid summer indie pop bop.
Chromeo first teased the release on social media. Last week, they shared a snippet of the single on TikTok along with the question, “Do we drop??” Last Friday (June 23rd), they shared the single artwork on Instagram “Stayed up all night, did the artwork,” the caption read. “You ask, we deliver.

The Canadian duo — made up of David “Dave 1” Macklovitch and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel — gave a taste of the new song live during their recent Coachella sets, bringing out La Roux as a surprise special guest on stage. Like taking a time machine back to the aughts, Chromeo and La Roux also boosted their set with electro-funk remixes of her biggest hits from the era, “Bulletproof” and “In for the Kill.”
“For our second single, we wanted to take a 90-degree turn,” Dave 1 said in a press release for the track. “The groove stays, but whereas ‘Words with You’ feels loose and organic, here we let the keyboards and drum machines do the talking.”

Ric Wilson, Chromeo, and A-Trak have cooked up a new project called Clusterfunk. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify.
Canadian DJ A-Trak introduced his fellow Montreal natives Chromeo to Ric Wilson’s music in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by the social movements of the moment, the artists convened with the Chicago rapper in California to forge a project steeped in socialism and communism, set to a mix of funk, soul, and hip-hop. King Louie, Felicia Douglass of Dirty Projectors, Stic.Man of Dead Prez, Kiéla Adira, and Mariame Kaba feature on the project.
Title track “Clusterfunk” alternates between stark verses from Wilson — who poses questions like “If it wasn’t in the bible, would you call it sin?/ If Dylan Roof wasn’t white, would they let him live?” — before Chromeo de-escalate his moral questioning with a classic sing-along chorus, crooning, “Welcome to the...

Omar Apollo put a new spin on the classic “California Dreamin'” as part of his entry into Spotify’s Singles series, where artists contribute a new version of one of their songs along with a cover of another artist.
The Mexican-American singer conjured up the same moodiness and mystique found in the Mamas & the Papas’ original, using a slightly different method: The sparse arrangement twists his echoing vocals around strumming acoustic guitar and a hissing organ. Apollo also included a chilled-out, downtempo version of his song “Go Away.”

When Coachella decided to expand into a two-weekend festival in 2012, many in the music industry thought the then-unprecedented gamble could backfire on the fest’s promoter Goldenvoice. But six years in, the second weekend — whose lineup completely replicates the first — has found a niche not just with fans, who on message boards often discuss its vibe as the less “sceney,” more “music-forward” weekend, but music business professionals as well.
According to a booking insider, requests for all-access passes — wristbands allowing entry to the backstage area where artist trailers are corralled and side-stage access during performances — drop 70% from weekend one to weekend two. Why?
For one, the onslaught of celebrity attendees is generally confined to weekend one, when social media exposure is at its peak. That means many non-performers — and their posses — milling about, straining facilities, parking and crowding the onstage viewing areas. In addition, when an artist on the bill...

Misery night is here, with the addition of the made for TV movie about the murder of Meredith Kercher featuring that girl who used to be in "Heroes" and yes I do know her name but I don't know how to spell it so I'll just keep referring to her as "The Cheerleader" thank you very much. (As a side note, as an American doing a study abroad shortly after the investigation began, this is also where I learned that people can decide whether or not you're a murderer by the contents of your MySpace page. Once they can figure that out through Facebook and Twitter I'm really in trouble. Uh, I mean, nothing to see here.) Really, just a banner night of "feel terrible about the world" television unless you're lucky enough to get Logo so you can watch "RuPaul's Drag Race" which probably makes you feel better about the world.
