Earlier today, Atlas launched a new website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Careful inspection of the featured logo will reveal Roman numerals representing the main entries, while there’s also a symbol indicating the highly anticipated next instalment.
Back in December, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse Producer Kazuyuki Yamai had stated that an “important milestone” for the series was coming this year. Having said that he hoped to make an announcement in 2017, could the website tease mark the early stages of that information?
More importantly, while the suggestion of a new title might not be a revelation in itself, the teaser comes just days before the big reveal of the Nintendo Switch. Of course, Shin Megami Tensei was originally a Nintendo Super Famicom release and the series always been a Nintendo mainstay, especially on Nintendo’s handheld 3Ds system. Shin Megami Tensei IV's trailer was released yesterday, the game is due to be released by Atlus in Japan on the Nintendo 3Ds in 2013. The trailer itself was distributed alongside the Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers revamp, which is set to be released on August 30th on Nintendo 3Ds.
The game is being developed by Team Maniacs who previously worked on Smt III: Nocturne and Devil Summoner: Raidu Kuzunoha. Thanks to a remarkably steady camera operator (or some nice capture software), we've got our first look at the next Smt game, coming to the 3Ds. The trailer was included on the Japanese release for Devil Summoner Soul Hackers, but an official version will probably be along presently.
According to Siliconera, this latest in the Shin Megami Series proper is being directed by regular Devil Summoner director Kazuyuki Yamai who's joined by Satoshi Ooyama, a programmer on Nocturne.
Shin Megami Tensei IV will be available in Japan in 2013.
