Update, with new attorney statement: Erica J. Suter, attorney for Adnan Syed, says today’s Maryland appellate court decision to reinstate the Serial subject’s convictions in the murder case of Hae Min Lee was based not on Syed’s guilt or innocence but rather on procedural issues “about notice and mootness.”
Furthermore, she said in a statement, “There is no basis for re-traumatizing Adnan by returning him to the status of a convicted felon.” She added, “For the time being, Adnan remains a free man.”
The attorney pledged to take the matter to the Supreme Court of Maryland.
Suter, Assistant Public Defender and Director of the Innocence Project Clinic at University of Baltimore Law School, said today’s revocation of last year’s decision by Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn to vacate Syed’s 2000 murder conviction “was not about Adnan’s innocence but about notice and mootness.”

Adnan Syed’s murder conviction — which gained worldwide attention from the hit podcast “Serial” in 2014 — has taken another turn. A Maryland court has reinstated Syed’s conviction after it was previously overturned in September 2022 and Syed was released from prison.
The Appellate Court of Maryland ruled on Tuesday that a lower court had violated the right of Young Lee, the brother of the late Hae Min Lee — whom Syed was found guilty of murdering in 2000 — to have been notified of and attend a hearing on the state’s motion to vacate Syed’s conviction. The Maryland court ordered a new hearing on the motion to vacate Syed’s murder conviction in a 2-1 decision.
“[The court] has the power and obligation to remedy those violations, as long we can do so without violating Mr. Syed’s right to be free from double jeopardy,” the decision read, according to the New York Times.

Adnan Syed’s journey through the court system is getting a final act. It’s on a technicality, but one that is of great importance to the family of murder victim Hae Min Lee. On Tuesday, the Maryland Appellate Court reinstated Syed’s conviction for Lee’s murder, deciding that a lower court had violated the right of Lee’s brother, Young Lee, to attend a hearing, held last October, where prosecutors announced they were dropping charges against him.

The co-founder of frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry was sentenced Friday to a maximum of seven years in prison for beating a homeless man with a tire iron. A jury had found Young Lee, 49, guilty in the Donald Bolding assault back in November. At the time, Lee was jailed without bail after the judge deemed him a “significant threat to the community” because he had threatened a witness in the case. Today, the sentence came down. In June 2011, Bolding flashed a lewd tattoo to Lee's fiancee. The former Pinkberry exec, who is no longer part of the company, returned to the East.

Eric Lavallee: Name me three of your favorite “2013 discoveries”…
Mynette Louie: 1. The Killing (AMC TV series) 2. “The Good, Racist People” (NY Times Op‐Ed). 3. Jee Young Lee’s “Stage of Mind” art/photography exhibit.

Is there some tax breaks I’m not aware of, and what are the challenges of working outside the box sorta speak?

Artist Jee Young Lee dreams on a grand scale, and she constructs her elaborate mixed-media creations in the same way, by turning her entire studio – including herself – into surreal and often disturbing works of art. "Birthday" by Jee Young Lee Lee's visions use every nook and cranny of the small room that serves as her studio space in Seoul, and once the transformation is complete, she photographs the results (in real space, no Photoshop or other digital tricks), then starts all over again on a new dreamscape. "Black Birds" by Jee Young Lee Some of her most ambitious projects have been collected in a gallery at Elite Daily, and their themes run from tranquil fields of flowers to whimsical, toy-filled wonderlands... but it's her spookier creations, like the giant caterpillars of “Birthday,” the Hitchcockian “Black Birds” or the thorny hell of “Food Chain” that capture the true feeling of nightmares.

It is less than two weeks since Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest, which led to him collapsing on the pitch. With Muamba still not 100%, Bolton will want to add another victory after their 2-1 win over Blackburn at the weekend. With the amount of support Muamba has received from fans and players worldwide, he was said to be overjoyed at the support but even more pleased that his team is on winning ways. Manager Owen Coyle said: “Sometimes you think ‘what is normal’. We are engrossed in this football world. When events like that transpire, you think ‘hold on a minute’ and get a different perspective.

Pinkberry frozen yogurt has become a phenomenon in places like Los Angeles and New York City, but 47-year-old co-founder Young Lee may not be riding the wave of success much longer. Lee, a former kickboxer, is accused of beating a homeless man with a tire iron after the man flashed a sexually explicit tattoo.
Lee arrived in Los Angeles after a flight from South Korea and was arrested at the airport. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, causing great bodily harm according to the La District Attorney's Office.
Pinkberry has said that Lee is no longer involved with the company.
The attack allegedly occured at a red light when Lee was in a Range Rover and the homeless man was panhandling. When the man exposed his tattoo, Lee felt disrespected, got out of the car, and used a tire iron to break the man's arm and cause welts on his head.
