San Diego’s Comic-Con International is the biggest event in the world devoted to genre pop culture. While the big Hollywood movies get the most mainstream press, there’s also a large, lesser known and promoted Independent Film Festival devoted to genre short films tucked away within the overall convention.
The Cci-iff, as it’s acronymed, runs completely concurrently with the convention with programming running from morning to night that includes films devoted to comic book-inspired movies, horror movies, sci-fi flicks, comedies and documentaries. There are also several panels on filmmaking sandwiched in between the on-screen entertainment.
The fest also gives out awards. This year’s juror panel includes filmmakers Steven-Charles Jaffee and Kyle Newman, plus entertainment journalist Borys Kit.
Programming blocks are broken up by genre and the full film lineup below gives the exact starting time of each short film. There’s also one feature film screening this year,...

Super Scary Horror Theater is a sexy comedy horror show debuting this Friday night live from the Streamin' Garage (a "six camera, live streaming entertainment network broadcasting an eclectic mix of programming in HD"). The series, which invokes the spirit of past genre progenitors like Elvira and Count Scary, will show classic horror movies interspersed with live interactions with the audience via chat and Skype. The star of the show is one Ms. Dementia, played by one Kat Steel, who is currently starring in the web series Fresh Hell. She will emcee the evening's events while she and her man servants will play a few games with the live audience. (It should be noted that in addition to being an actress and model, Kat Steel is a well-known cosplayer. For those unfamiliar, cosplay is when a person, usually a lady who's easy on the eyes, dresses up as a favorite...

There is a certain fascination with watching stars crash to Earth. (See any article on TMZ for reference.) The new web series, Fresh Hell from Star Trek: The Next Generation star Brent Spiner, takes a comedic look at the aftermath of a celebrity's fall from grace. Brent Spiner stars as, well, Brent Spiner, the much beloved star of stage, screen, and cinema, who commits an unforgivable faux pas, referred to only as "The Incident," resulting in the loss of his fame, family, and fortune. Now a social outcast and national laughing stock, Spiner desperately seeks a return to his former glory while adjusting to his new situation. The series also stars web series veteran Kat Steel, who debuts in the second episode as Spiner's doe-eyed, eager-to-please pornstar neighbor, Dakota. "Despite her day job, Dakota has a heart of gold and a strong (yet strange) moral compass," says Steel. "Her bond...

How high will Numa Numa end up? Will we be spared from Bieber? Will Lon Harris even make it through this? All questions we will have to wait to find out, as This Week In YouTube kicks off its live streaming marathon countdown today at 12:00 Pm (Pt) of the Top 100 YouTube videos of All Time—in honor of the weekly web show's 100th episode. The countdown list is more editorial than view counts, with Lon and his co-hosts Judalina Neira and Kat Steel making the hard cuts. So 217 million-view "Bad Romance" from Lady Gaga may or may not actually show up. But if 3.7 million-view "Big Belly Man" doesn't make it, we're tuning it off. Lon's not allowed to take a break until it's all done! With the clips, the guests, the commentary and everything else, it could easily run 8-10 hours. Of comedy gold!
