Filmmaker George Miller has made no bones about classic cinema’s influence on the Mad Max saga over the years. Iconic physical comedians like Buster Keaton or Harold Lloyd are cited often as inspirations for the queasy death-defying stunts that Max Rockatansky or Imperator Furiosa get up to, including when we spoke with the writer-director. He even muses to us, “Buster Keaton would survive very well, actually” in the fabled Wasteland.
Perhaps so too then would the stars he selected to bring his most epic adventure yet on the Fury Road to life. Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are actors that most moviegoers will be familiar with when Furiosa opens later this month—although never in roles like these. Cast as diametrically opposed nemeses forced to endure the harsh desert ruins of a post-apocalyptic Australia, Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa and Hemsworth’s Dr. Dementus are radical departures for the performers. A fun thing about getting into old musicals after watching "The Simpsons" your whole life is that you'll find yourself experiencing a never-ending string of realizations like, "Oh, so this is where that 'Simpsons' scene came from." Such is the case for "The Music Man," the 1962 musical about a conman who goes into a naive small town, stirs up a moral panic, and then uses said panic to sell them band instruments. This is all encapsulated in the musical number "Ya Got Trouble," where main character Harold Hill (Robert Preston) uses his charisma to get the town fully on board with his money-making scheme.
To a "Simpsons" fan, the song's tone, meaning, and rhythm should quickly feel familiar. That's because it's the same basic song Lyle Lanley (voiced by Phil Hartman) sings to the town of Springfield to get them to invest in a monorail they don't need.

Hugh Jackman is the picture of tall, dark, and handsome. The charismatic Australian is a gifted singer, dancer, and actor. He’s starred in numerous films — his most memorable characters include Marvel’s hot-tempered Wolverine, vampire hunter Van Helsing, and circus great P.T. Barnum. He’s also lit up the stage in several award-winning productions on Broadway. In fact, the most embarrassing moment of Jackman’s impressive career happened during a production of Beauty and the Beast.
Hugh Jackman recalls peeing on stage as his most embarrassing moment
We’ve all heard the old saying “The show must go on.” Live performances are incredibly difficult, and any on stage faux pas needs to be glossed over as if it never happened. Anyone who has ever danced in a recital will certainly recall that if you trip, fall, or miss a step, you just keep on going. The audience will never even notice,...

Hey, as the Summer movie season races (hint) to that Labor Day finish line (again), the studios aren’t quite done with toy-based stories. In that aspect, a new box office champ has been crowned with the “pink princess” zooming past those video game plumbing icons. Now, this new release leans into the latter’s territory as its roots are in the gaming world. Oh, and like the “under the radar” Tetris flick, it is actually based on a true story, This isn’t a twist on the old “Cold War Cloak and Daggar” thriller like that one or even an “origin story” of the game’s creation. Instead, this is closer to an old-fashioned, grit and glory, sports underdog fable, Yes sports, as we follow one determined young man whose dreams become reality when he enters the world of Gran Turismo.

“What I find fun about these characters is how to make them human and as real as possible,” explains Bonnie Milligan. The actress is currently starring in the Broadway transfer of “Kimberly Akimbo” as Aunt Debra, a role she originated Off-Broadway to much acclaim. While Milligan displays her signature brand of comedy in the role, she is quick to point out that Debra is more than just a zany criminal with killer vocals. The performer is keen to bring out the complex intermingling of love and grief which define the character, and the musical as a whole. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
In this new musical from David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori, Milligan’s Debra arrives at her niece Kimberly’s (Victoria Clark) doorstep with her latest (and highly illegal) money making scheme. Kimberly, a 16 year old girl who appears closer to 70 thanks to a rare genetic disorder, is...

Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt are setting the record straight about the origins of "Ted Lasso." During a cast panel with Variety in celebration of the hit Apple TV+ show's third season, the show's co-creators were asked about the origin of the Ted Lasso character, and had a surprising answer.
Moderator and Actors on Actors host Jenelle Riley opened up the panel by asking about the inception of "Ted Lasso" as a character, referencing a story that's apparently been floating around the internet about co-creators and stars Brendan Hunt and Jason Sudeikis incorporating the character into sketch comedy early in their careers. "It's not true!" Sudeikis declared, before setting the record straight about exactly how the pair's early days working together at a theater in Amsterdam related to their eventual creation of the mustachioed Midwestern football coach.

Harold Hill, er Hugh Jackman, has lined up a new gig: he’ll voice Big Greg in the upcoming Hulu Original animated comedy series Koala Man.
The comedy is about a middle-aged dad named Kevin and his not-so-secret identity, whose only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the Australian suburban town of Dapto. He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.
Jackman, who’s currently headlining The Music Man on Broadway, will play the most well-liked man in Dapto and the head of the Town Council. Big Greg has only known success. Formerly the host of Fishing Big with Big Greg, Australia’s third most popular fishing show, Big Greg has ridden his celebrity into a trusted position in Dapto.

Hugh Jackman insists that it started as an innocent enough day. Getting on Instagram to engage with fans, and maybe revisit some fond trips down memory lane, he reposted a few images: a fan art design of Wolverine’s claws here, and a meeting with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige there. Then, walking away to go live his life, he was completely unaware the internet was abuzz with speculation and gossip.
This is how it played out last month when Jackman shared a Boss Logic fan image of the Wolverine claws he wore in nine X-Men movies and then an image taken of himself chatting with Feige back in 2013 when they were hanging out in a talent lounge at San Diego Comic-Con. Innocuous stuff, right? Well, according to more than one publication, from comic book sites to major print magazines, it was all a clever wink and nod that Jackman...

In his new film “Bad Education,” Hugh Jackman plays a charming, ambitious school superintendent with an eye on raising his school district to be the best in the country. The only problem is he’s wickedly corrupt.
Jackman plays Frank Tassone in this story about the biggest public school embezzlement scandal in American history. He stars alongside Allison Janney and Ray Romano as they work to raise their Long Island school district to the nation’s top spot, spurring record college and admissions and soaring property values. But when an embezzlement scheme surfaces that threatens to destroy all they’ve built, Frank is forced to maintain order and secrecy — by whatever means necessary.
“I wanted to make a difference. I got us all the way to number four, and I will get us to number one,” Jackman says in the trailer. “Get us to first, that’s all that matters,...

It's been over 10 years since Hugh Jackman took the Broadway stage by storm, and this time around, he's making a lot more noise.
The Greatest Showman star will take on the role of con man "Professor" Harold Hill, opposite two-time Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster as librarian Marian Paroo, in a major upcoming revival of Meredith Wilson's The Music Man. The iconic musical follows Jackman's charismatic con man as he arrives at the small Iowa town of River City posing as a boys' marching band organizer. Hill's big plan is to run away with the money he collects for musical instruments and uniforms, but Foster's Marian sees through his scam and plans to expose him. Of course, romantic complications ensue.
This will be Jackson's first musical role since his 2003 Tony-winning Broadway debut in the Peter Allen bio-musical The Boy From Oz, though he has appeared on Broadway in limited engagements three times since.
