In Flames, which also premiered at Tribeca, real-life artists and filmmakers Zeffrey Throwell and Josephine Decker created a docu-drama about their actual relationship. In My Art real-life artist and filmmaker Laurie Simmons takes a different approach, creating a feature that’s ostensibly narrative but seems intertwined closely with her identity. For one thing the lead character, Ellie, is portrayed by Simmons, who also directs and wrote the screenplay. Ellie is a talented artist frustrated by the distraction of everyday live in New York City, and so steals away for the summer to a friend’s idyllic upstate estate, complete with a barn-cum-art-studio....read more...

Let’s say you’re a creative couple in New York, a performance artist and an indie filmmaker in a city filled with them. How do you break out from the pact? In reality TV show fashion, you could film your heterosexual relationship in intimate detail. And that’s exactly what real-life and professional partners Zefrey Throwell and Josephine Decker did. In Flames the fearless duo start out with good intentions as their lay bare their emotions and naked bodies before the camera. Perhaps sensing their film is going nowhere fast, they – and their cinematographer – embark on an on-the-fly trip to...read more...

"It's going to be so satisfying when you see it, and you realize that I was telling the truth the whole time," Kit Harington recently said about Jon Snow, his beloved character from "Game Of Thrones" who met his demise in season five. Or did he? Poke around the internet and you'll find plenty of Snow Truthers who believe the character didn't meet his maker, or will be brought back to life via magick, or something. But HBO has cheekily addressed the issue in revealing the official, terse, hilarious plot synopsis for the season's first episode, "The Red Woman." "Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again." Read More: Recap: 'Game Of Thrones' Season 5, Episode 9, 'The Dance With Dragons' Goes Up In Flames That is some amazing semi-trolling from the network, which is not sending screeners to press. Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov’s detention by the Russian authorities has been extended by yet another two months to July 11.
This decision was made by Nikolai Tkachuk, a judge of the Moscow City Court, claiming that the charged offence poses a particular hazard to the public.
Initially, it had been expected that Sentsov’s trial would start yesterday (May 11), the first anniversary after his arrest on the Crimean peninsula in May 2014.
However, Sentsov’s case will be kept in the public eye by the Ukrainian Pavilion at the International Village in Cannes’ Marché du Film in the next two weeks.
Visitors to the Pavilion will be invited to add their names to a petition calling for the 38-year-old director’s release.
This comes after the European Parliament passed a resolution in its plenary session in Strasbourg calling for the ¨immediate release¨ of all Ukrainian citizens illegally detained in Russia, including Sentsov and the Ukrainian pilot and MP...

Blake Armstrong's work captured my attention over the last week, first on Instagram when someone reposted one of his prints inspired by Joe Dante's The 'Burbs. And, recently, he's been posting "a work in progress" shots of a Re-Animator print that's truly dynamic, vivid and - without question - great. I want this.
His work evokes the master Drew Struzan and Armstrong has tackled Ghostbusters, Spaceballs and Guardians of the Galaxy. Armstrong's site reveals he is self-taught and he has done some design work for the band In Flames.

Photo: Minor Cortes Photography Formed in San Jose, Costa Rica in 2005, melodic death metal unit Sight of Emptiness made a major impression two years later when they won the Unsigned Band contest at the Bloodstock Open Air festival (where they also played the main stage); that same year saw the release of their debut full-length album Trust is a Disease. From there, the band's career skyrocketed as they became virtually their country's metal spokesmen. To follow their strong sophomore record Absolution of Humanity, they embarked on their most ambitious project to date, collaborating with a gallery of premier names across the spectrum of hard rock and metal to produce their latest offering, Instincts. I'll admit that I hadn't heard much of Soe's work prior to this one, so I dug into the first two albums as well to bring myself up to speed. What I heard was a distinct and personal imprint,...

Yes, the final episode of ’90210′ brought some much-needed closure for our favorite Beverly Hills residents — though one character wasn’t quite as lucky as the others.
Last week, Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) being crushed on stage by a barrage of flaming rubble seemed like a bad thing, but as we saw on the May 13 series finale — yes, I said series finale, and I can’t type those words without ugly crying — her accident turned out to be a good thing. Aside from a few bumps and bruises, the near-death tragedy brought everyone back together one last time!
Fearing for his one true love or whatever, Liam (Matt Lanter) canceled his trip to Australia to check up on Annie (Shenae Grimes), while Navid (Michael Steger Jr.) got a chance to play hero with Ade. Seriously, am I the only one surprised that zero rescue workers thought to check on the girl who...

Matt Lanter gives HollywoodLife.com a preview of the ’90210′ series finale & teases what would have happened in season six.

But even with the end in sight, Matt Lanter tells HollywoodLife.com there are still plenty of surprises to come. And even more we’ll never see.

Matt urges “anyone who’s been a fan of Liam’s romances, especially the Annie saga,” to tune into the final episode. “We end on a good note,” he says. “I’m happy with Liam’s ending, and I think most of the fans will be happy. … There might be a happy ending, a big pay-off for all the strife [Liam has] been put through.”

The first official shots from the show’s final episode have hit the web. Are you ready to say goodbye?
As if we weren’t already bummed out that 90210 is coming to an early end, it looks like the series finale is going to be a total downer — at least for Silver (Jessica Stroup), who appears to get some terrible news in this batch of just-released stills from the May 13 episode.
Could Silver be getting diagnosed with cancer, as she’s feared all season? They wouldn’t do that to her, right? Or to us? Someone, hold me.
Meanwhile, Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) throws a relief benefit — methinks she should have thrown the soiree to raise awareness of 90210‘s decreasing ratings, but whatever — and it all goes to hell. At least I think it all goes to hell. Why else would she be making that bats**t-crazy face?

Nicki Minaj defends the Nicki Minaj Brand in the new music video for her "Up In Flames," yet another cut off the endlessly long-slash-promotable "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up." The rapper/singer spends some serious screen-time mugging seriously in the dark as stunt bikers remind you that the '90s were real and this was a thing that happened. This very slow beat allows for Minaj's Queens accent bite at her competitors in full-throat, though I've never found the zingers particularly zingy. Instead, she seems defensive, rather than offensive, and the camera is out fishing for proof of her successes. One...

With the series finale fast approaching, it looks like one ’90210′ couple is feeling the pressure!
There may only be five episodes of 90210 left, but The CW sudser is definitely going out with a bang — several, actually — and it looks like Navid (Michael Steger) and Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) will be at the center of one of those bangs! Metalcore bands are embracing horror elements more often lately, and stylistically it makes sense: the artists tend to express anguish and fear through lyrics while purging anger with a barrage of ultra-violent riffs and rhythms, much in the same way a good horror story can alternate subtle, emotional chills with shocking violence. The mix of harsh-voiced verses with melodic chorus vocals has its share of outspoken detractors – many of whom just don't like mixing their metal flavors, which is understandable – but balance is key to making the whole thing work. Although they're recent additions to the field, St. Louis five-piece Tear Out the Heart carry off this balancing act fairly well in their first full-length album, appropriately titled Violence. Blending the song structures of straight rock and pop with deep, dark hardcore riffs and breakdowns, Tear Out the Heart fall closer to bands like the excellent Motionless in White, sharing...

That’s right, even before her marriage to Max was finalized, Naomi said ‘I do’ to a new life-partner — and it was the perfect match.
In an effort to lift her spirits — divorce is super sad, you guys — Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) planned a little girls’ night out on the March 11 episode of 90210. But thanks to a few cups of Ivy’s “special” left-over tea, the girls woke up the next morning with no memories from the night before, including the identity of the Naomi’s mystery groom!
Their search for the new Mr. Naomi Clark led the girls from a strip club a Bo-lates studio — yes, that’s Botox and Pilates — where they were reunited with Brandi Glanville and Camille Grammer, whom Naomi apparently bonded with during her night of debauchery. “The three divorcees,” they called themselves, which is equal parts hilarious and depressing. Max who? CW veteran Robbie tells HollywoodLife.com to expect major ‘sparks’ between Naomi and new-guy Jordan.
Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) didn’t have time to save her marriage on 90210 this season, and she clearly doesn’t have time to mourn it, either. Robbie Jones joins The CW drama for its final six episodes beginning March 11, and he tells HollywoodLife.com that “sparks start flying” between Naomi and his character, Jordan Welland.
“He has a media company, which releases books and does all kinds of different media things,” Robbie explains. “He comes in and starts working with AnnaLynne’s character, and they kind of hit it off.”
Robbie describes Jordan as being “upscale” with “a light side to him,” one I’m sure Naomi will have no trouble pulling out. Jordan’s story line “intertwines” with three or four other main characters’ plots, but Robbie says his connection to Naomi is by far the most important.

With only five episodes left to go, the gang hit some major milestones — and a few crossroads — this week.
Now that we know our time with the 90210-ers is drawing to a close — the series finale airs May 13 — I’m reflecting on how much and why exactly I’ll miss them, which is what I pondered while watching the March 4 episode. Most of all, I’ll miss these kids’ uncanny ability to completely switch life directions on a weekly basis, then immediately achieving unfathomable success in their new field.
Take Liam (Matt Lanter), for example. The bartender-turned-model-turned-actor managed to launch a custom-surfboard company and snag himself a surfer girl this week — mere minutes after telling his bros that he wanted to launch a custom-surfboard company and snag himself a surfer girl. Her name is Sydney, and Liam really doesn’t care that she’s already married, or that her stepson...

While most bands sharpen their knives on the grinder for a while before gaining recognition and success, Aussie bunch, Buried In Verona stabbed their blades into the ribs of hardcore/metalcore from the get-go; leaving the spilled blood on the floor and letting the wound heal itself, the band pulled the ribs apart and settled into the yawning puncture. Watching the flesh raggedly grow back, the band balanced on the rib-bones and waited for the fissure to heal from the inside-out. That was in 2007. They’ve been there ever since.
Before the band had even played their first gig, they’d already recorded their debut album, Circle the Dead, which was quick to reach major Australian retailers. The album was released due to a deal the band had been offered by Riot! Entertainment, upon the band’s formation in 2007. The band...

I know we don't cover men's grooming too much in this corner of the internets, but you should know that my not-so-professional background includes a 6-year relationship with a guy who spent more time at Barneys' cosmetics counter than with me, so I'm clearly qualified to discuss the intricacies of mens shopping habits - more specifically, shopping for beauty products. Right?
Anyway, shortly after the New York Times published an article detailing the shopping habits of the least fairest sex, Gulf News outlined why packaging cosmetics for men is such a daunting task, and as it turns out, I can relate to the problem - men don't want to be seen buying anything that headlines as a wrinkle-fighter or a skin firmer, and this I know because my ex's grabby hands always made their way into my makeup bag, digging for anything that looked remotely feminine (and effective).

CD Prokekt Red bring their award-winning dark fantasy RPG to the Xbox 360. Featuring a tale of regicide and the brutal political intrigues that follow in its wake (along with war, monster hunting, and a little bit of skin), the violent adventures of the White Wolf, Witcher Geralt of Rivia is a vast, complex story framing brutal combat against all manner of human and inhuman opponents. But does this PC-to-console port survive adaptation for a new platform? Or should CD Projekt's White Wolf stick with his hunting grounds on the PC?

In spite of strong sales of Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning back in February and the promise of an Mmo, the Rhode Island-based studio's fortunes have been in a precipitous decline over the last two weeks.
It all started on May 14th with state of Rhode Island calling 38 Studios out for not paying back a $75 million loan which the developer received back in 2010. This lead to swift movement that week to get the state a past due $1.125 million while forgoing payroll for the entire studio, who receives their checks on the first and fifteen of each month.
What we didn't know then was that a month earlier, Studio head Jennifer MacLean along with John Blackley and other senior staff were already out the door due to staffing reductions.
Now on the heels that the company's health insurance has run out, The Verge is reporting that the entire staff has been laid off.

The found-footage superhero movie director to lend his storytelling chops to the tale of a boy and 16 soon-to-be-dead colossi for Sony Pictures.
The Shadows of the Colossus live-action feature has been in the works for a little while now—all the way back to 2009. Rights owner Sony has presumably spent the last three years looking at the numbers and figuring out how to make the surely special effects-intensive feature have a workable budget. Well, what better way than to go to Josh Trank, whose $13 million Chronicle opened at $22 million for a total of almost $125 million worldwide.
It's all about scope, I suspect, and having someone who has a vision where that vision doesn't call for all of the money from everywhere forever to get it made. The 2005 game continues to get love from the critical and wider gaming community, so it was probably wise for Sony to pick a director...

Is it that soon? Believe it or not, "Snow White & The Hunstman" hits theaters in just a few weeks, which means the final marketing push will be happening to get moviegoers to buy a ticket, and Universal is hoping Florence + The Machine fans will be among those lining up for the fairy tale flick.
With the song hitting the interwebs just a couple of weeks ago, now the full music video for "Breath Of Life" has arrived and it's nothing Earth shattering -- not that there's anything wrong with that. It's your standard artist-in-the-studio footage, cut with scenes from the movie and it does the job it's supposed to promoting the film (and, secondarily, the artist). The song is a better than average made-for-a-movie tune, and Florence's voice is certainly one that's hard to ignore. So overall, nicely done everybody.

Progressive metal is a genre that’s been explored and abetted by plenty of bands in recent times: most notably the big names such as Isis, Mastodon, Pelican and Tool have arguably had the biggest impact on the genre. But there are other bands as well, that may not have had as big an impact but have nevertheless done the rounds and have shown their take on the genre and have delved into it. Even though these bands are small, they still make a difference – they may be a young musician’s favourite band and therefore that musician could go on and form a band of his own and carry the torch instead. A prime example of a band like this is Sikth, who are one of the most revered bands in the genre.

If there was a doctor in the house during Tuesday night’s American Idol telecast, he or she really should’ve rushed the stage at the 1:22 marker and called the official time of death for criticism. That was seconds after J.Lo, Randy, and Steven used words like “beautiful,” “mad cool” and “good job” to describe a performance that found “adorable” Eben Franckewitz wreaking havoc on Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” like a baby doing its worst to a diaper.

Van Halen’s first new studio album with David Lee Roth in 28 years is named “A Different Kind of Truth,” but the Feb. 7 release could have just as easily been called “I Will Not Go Quietly” “Truth” is a heavy slab of rock delivered on a concrete pillow. As fans already know, most of the riffs/ideas for the new tunes are from never-finished songs of yore: “She’s The Woman” is from a tune originally demoed in the ‘70s, while obsessive fans instantly noted the similarity between first single “Tattoo” and “Down In Flames,” a 1977 song played live, but never...

We’ve already gotten to hear “Tattoo,” the underwhelming first single from Van Halen’s new album, “A Different Kind of Truth,” out Feb. 7. Now, Rolling Stone is previewing 90 seconds of a new Van Halen track, “Blood and Fire.” It’s much more melodic than “Tattoo.” We don’t know if it’s based on an older song as well —“Tattoo” has remnants of a 1977 track, “Down In Flames — but it sounds like something straight out the ‘80s. Rolling Stone readers (and major hardcore Vh fans) have commented that this is built around one of Eddie’s unreleased instrumentral tracks called “Ripley.” If...

It seems like an age since Coldplay last released an album. It’s actually only been three years since Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends was released, but three years without a fix has been a wait that’s seemed much longer for Coldplay addicts. However, they should be used to waiting this long – every album that Coldplay has released has been two or three years since its predecessor. It’s hard to believe that Mylo Xyloto is the band’s fifth studio album. It seems as if they’ve released much more, but this is mainly due to the undying popularity of songs such as Yellow, The Scientist, Speed of Sound and Viva La Vida, to name just a few.

It’s rare for a film sequel to be as good as the original – but with video games it generally tends to be the opposite. Gaming sequels often manage to take the experience of the first game and expand it with new features and improved graphics, making each new entry in the series a significant step forward. It’s for this reason that many of gaming’s most popular franchises have seen sequels which are regarded by many as superior to the original title.
But sadly….. It’s not always the case.
Here’s our list featuring ten of the most disappointing video game sequels of all time.

Coldplay have revealed information on two new songs taken from their forthcoming album. The band will release their fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto on October 24 and have teased details about two of the record's tracks. In the band's official blog, their roadie, who often writes entries on the band, revealed information on a new track titled 'Up In Flames', which was written before their iTunes gig back in July. They explained: "Apparently, Chris [Martin] had started the song the previous night, so it was less than 24 hours old at that point. "It was hypnotic in its simplicity, but devastatingly, achingly gorgeous. The final version has lost none of this and is a masterwork of restraint." They continued: (more)...

Accusations will always follow Sonisphere festival – usually aimed from those most preposterously pretentious metal fans who frequent supposedly non-mainstream festivals like Bloodstock – that Sonisphere is little more than a sell-out event, aimed at watered-down metal fans of pop-edged bands who have long since let go their grip on creative integrity in favour of the almighty dollar.
But 2011′s fest boasted one of the most impressive line-ups rock festivals have seen for a good long while, thanks largely to the promise of the Big Four playing together on one stage in one glorious night, as well as talent from across almost every sub-genre of rock from pop-punk (Weezer, YouMeAtSix), to comedy-tinged re-imaginings (Hayseed Dixie, Richard Cheese) and the bona-fide megastars of Slipknot, Biffy Clyro
And no matter what pigeon-hole those bands might fall into, a festival experience that includes so much breadth, and so much inclusive passion for music in general...

Come this March, there's going to be a lot of Alex Pardee on screen during Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. The artist not only contributed artwork for the genre bending trip through a mental institution [1], but his drawings are the basis for much of the marketing campaign. We've already seen the finished posters that Pardee did [2] of all the characters from the film and now we've got images of his original, hand-drawn sketches of those posters. Check them out, and find out how you can see Pardee's work up close and personal in Los Angeles this month, after the break. Here are the images, which are a /Film Exclusive. [gallery columns="2"] As you can see, Pardee didn't do these on a computer like so many artists do now days. He hand drew these suckers. And Snyder must have liked them so much, he basically just printed them as is and handed them out at Comic-Con.
