Showtime has closed a deal to develop a four-hour miniseries about the Cuban Missile Crisis based on James Blight and Janet M. Lang's "The Armageddon Letters".
That book draws on documents released under the Freedom of Information Act that deal with that two-week event in October 1962 that nearly incited a third World War. U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro are all central characters in the mini-series.
Phil Alden Robinson ("Sneakers," "The Sum of All Fears") is onboard to write and direct, while Albert S. Ruddy, Mike Medavoy, Benjamin Anderson and Todd Martens will serve as executive producers.

Now that Nikita is over and done with, it’s time for Maggie Q to set her eyes on a new iconic female character to bring to life on the TV screen, only this time she’ll be taking on the persona of a woman from China’s history. This new project will be a limited series and may put Maggie Q in line to portray one of the most badass female characters TV has ever seen come to life. If you haven’t heard of this woman, don’t be ashamed. This was the first I’d heard of her exploits and I immediately wished I could no more.
The limited series is called Red Flag and comes from Steven Jensen’s Independent Television Group, Mike Medaboy & Benjamin Anderson of Phoenix Pictures and Fred Fuchs. Deadline reported Maggie Q would be playing Ching Shih, a beautiful young Chinese prostitute in the early 1800s.
