The CW has given a series order to “Sherlock & Daughter,” a scripted series starring David Thewlis.
With Thewlis as Sherlock Holmes, the series puts the detective out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends. He then meets Amelia (Blu Hunt), an American who, after her mother’s mysterious murder, learns that Sherlock may be her missing father. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, the pair must work together to solve a global conspiracy, crack her mother’s murder and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter. The cast also includes Dougray Scott as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.
Brendan Foley created “Sherlock & Daughter” while James Duff showruns. They both executive produce alongside Karine Martin, Chris Philip, Peter Gerwe, Dominic Barlow, Ivan Dunleavy and Escapade Media. Micah War Dog Wright and Shelly Goldstein both serve as writiners.

Ivan Dunleavy, who ran legendary U.K. studio Pinewood for 17 years before departing in 2017 following a buyout, has a new studio venture, this time in Ireland.
Tara Studios, based at the 154-acre Borleagh Manor estate in County Wexford less than an hour’s drive from Dublin (and, crucially, connected via a motorway to the capital), has now opened its door for shoots, with the location and production spaces of around 27,000 square-feet immediately available.
But there are also grand expansion plans, with construction work on seven stages that would provide a total of 150,000 square feet of studio space (the biggest stage coming in at 30,000 square-feet), plus a further 90,000 square-feet of workshop and office space, set to start in the spring 2024. Full completion is anticipated by July 2025.

The Pinewood Group, including its studios in Buckinghamshire, Shepperton, Wales and facilities around the world, could be sold as part of the company’s strategy for growing the business.
Pinewood said that although last year’s share placing to raise funds for the expansion of its main site in Buckinghamshire had been successful, it didn’t result in enough new shareholders which has “stifled” liquidity and stopped the company from obtaining a “main market” stock exchange listing.
It has now appointed financial advisory group Rothschild to conduct a review of Pinewood’s overall capital base and structure which could result in a sale.

Chancellor George Osborne wants more projects like Gravity and Avengers: Age Of Ultron to shoot in the UK.
A new higher rate of film tax relief (Ftr) for the UK has been given State Aid approval by the EU - giving a green light to the plans first outlined in March.
It means that the rate of Ftr will be increased to 25% regardless of budget level for all qualifying core expenditure, for all eligible film productions.
Therefore, a British film costing £40m will receive an additional £1m towards productions costs from the change.
Previously, Ftr applied at a rate of 25% for the first £20m ($31m) of qualifying expenditure and 20% to amounts thereafter.
The plans were first announced by the government in the March 2015 Budget and have been running through the various governmental processes to secure approval.

It's no real surprise, but the Rian Johnson-directed second instalment in the new "Star Wars" trilogy is officially set to shoot at Pinewood Studios in the UK.
Pinewood Shepperton CEO Ivan Dunleavy revealed the news today during a Cbi Conference speech, confirming Pinewood will remain the home of the franchise a week after principal photography wrapped on J.J. Abrams' "Stars Wars: The Force Awakens" at the studio.
Dunleavy said on stage: "I'm delighted to be able to tell you that a new Star Wars movie is already booked in. R2D2 was built in the UK 37 years ago. Since then he's spent a lot of his life in foreign studios. But now he's back home. The seventh Star Wars movie just finished shooting – at Pinewood. If we want to keep R2D2 and his friends here, then we need to see sustained government action to keep UK film a thriving and fast-growing industry,...

Pinewood Shepperton has been granted planning permission for the long-awaited £200m ($340m) expansion of its Buckinghamshire site.
The decision by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government clears the way for Pinewood to double in size, which the company said would “address the clear need for additional capacity in the UK”.
The 1m sq ft development will include 12 large studios and stages with supporting workshops and production offices.
Three of the studios will be around 40,000 sq ft in size.
Pinewood chief executive Ivan Dunleavy welcomed the announcement and told Screen’s sister publication Broadcast that the new stages could be open before the end of 2015.
“As with any large development there is a process to go through and there are detailed matters to agree with the planning authorities, but the key is that the Secretary of State has found it appropriate to grant outline consent,” he said.
“The process matters are important items that may...
