The Dead Island cinematic reveal trailer propelled the game from an obscure title known only to horror gamers to one of the most talked about titles in 2011. A feature film may not be moving forward yet, but Hatchet III director Bj McDonnell teamed up with Machinima to create a live-action version of the trailer.
For those that weren’t aware, Lionsgate acquired rights to produce a Dead Island movie back in 2011. We haven’t heard anything since, but this may draw a bit more interest to the project. Here are details from the original announcement:
“Santa Monica, CA, September 27, 2011– Lionsgate® (NYSE: Lgf), a leading global entertainment company, today announced that it has optioned film rights from Deep Silver to develop a feature inspired by Dead Island, which became a viral media sensation when its haunting, artful trailer launched in February 2011. The announcement was made by Lionsgate’s co-coo and Motion Picture Group President Joe Drake.
