It's been over 10 years since Hugh Jackman took the Broadway stage by storm, and this time around, he's making a lot more noise.
The Greatest Showman star will take on the role of con man "Professor" Harold Hill, opposite two-time Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster as librarian Marian Paroo, in a major upcoming revival of Meredith Wilson's The Music Man. The iconic musical follows Jackman's charismatic con man as he arrives at the small Iowa town of River City posing as a boys' marching band organizer. Hill's big plan is to run away with the money he collects for musical instruments and uniforms, but Foster's Marian sees through his scam and plans to expose him. Of course, romantic complications ensue.
This will be Jackson's first musical role since his 2003 Tony-winning Broadway debut in the Peter Allen bio-musical The Boy From Oz, though he has appeared on Broadway in limited engagements three times since.

Sutton Foster, star of TV’s Younger and a two-time Tony Award winner, will co-star with Hugh Jackman in next year’s Broadway revival of The Music Man, Jackman tweeted this morning.
Jackman tweeted a photo of himself (see it above) dancing with Foster with the simple message, “For our next dance…@sfosternyc is #Marian @MusicManBway.” Producer Scott Rudin confirmed the casting.
Foster will play Marian Paroo, or, as one of the show’s songs puts it, “Marian the Librarian.” The role was played by Barbara Cook in the 1957 original production, and by Shirley Jones in the Shirley Jones in the 1962 film version.
See Jackman’s tweet below.
The 2020 revival of the Meredith Wilson musical was announced two weeks ago. Jerry Zaks will direct, with Warren Carlyle choreographing. Preview performances are set to being Wednesday, September 9, 2020 with an official opening on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at a Shubert theatre to be announced.

When Debbie Reynolds died on Wednesday at the age of 84, she had been famous for more than 65 years. A multi-talented star who fixed her place in the Hollywood firmaments when she was just 19 years old (the same age that her daughter, the late Carrie Fisher, was introduced to the world as Princess Leia), Reynolds’ life was the stuff of Tinseltown legend, and she never seemed to grow tired of the spotlight. On the contrary, she was a force of nature until the bitter end, brightening almost every corner of showbiz at one point or another during her decades on stage and screen.

Throughout her nearly seven decade career, Reynolds made a name for herself as a triple-threat singer, dancer, and actor — with roles in big-screen MGM musicals and Broadway shows. Many of you may have heard by now, the rumors floating around about Robert Pattinson being considered to play Dr. Jones in some sort of new Indiana Jones reboot for Disney/Lucasfilm. While our own sources have raised some eyebrows at the idea, this got our staff to discussing how Disney should move forward with the Indiana Jones franchise, and potentially reboot it. Come inside to see our contributors’ thoughts on the subject and add in your own!
First, let’s talk about this rumor. Over the last couple months, a pair of names have been associated with a new take on Indiana Jones, to lead the franchise into a new generation. If you didn’t grow up with the Beatles, the quality of the group that’s most defining — the degree to which they towered over the culture — is almost impossible to communicate in any organic way. I don’t mean to be patronizing to my Gen-x friends (although they’ve never been shy about patronizing me), but if you’re too young to remember the Beatles, you probably won’t get it. You’ll think: Okay, Michael Jackson meets Star Wars — I know, they were that big. But they weren’t. They were bigger. They may not have been bigger than Jesus,...

The Unsinkable Molly Brown, a 1960 musical based on the life of a survivor of the Titanic and the Lusitania disasters, has reentered the theatrical dialogue lately. A new version of the Meredith Wilson (of The Music Man fame) show is under way, thanks to a December 15th reading starring Tony-winner Sutton Foster as “a rags-to-riches Midwesterner who married well, fought for social justice and survived the 1912 sinking of the Titanic.”

Washington — The good times never seemed so good for Neil Diamond.
Known for his songs that have become anthems at ballparks and bars, Diamond was chosen Wednesday to receive the Kennedy Center Honors this year along with some of the biggest names from Broadway, jazz, classical music and Hollywood.
Diamond will be honored with Broadway singer Barbara Cook, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, saxophonist Sonny Rollins and actress Meryl Streep for their contributions to American culture through the arts. President Barack Obama will salute the artists and others will perform in their honor at a ceremony at the Kennedy Center on Dec. 4. CBS will broadcast the show Dec. 27.
Diamond said he was "flying way above sea level" when he heard about the honor.
"I've watched, and I've seen, and I've even dreamed that someday that would happen to me," he told The Associated Press. "But I never really believed that it would.

French Lessons en chanson Jean Brassard and Steve Ross Hudson Opera House, Hudson, New York, May 21, 2011
It was 1960-something and I was attending the summer session at Hollywood High; a friend got me in to usher at the Huntington Hartford Theater (now the Fernando Lamas Theater) on Vine Street. One night some French guy was to sing. I had never heard of him, but there was an extra-special excitement in the air as Maurice Chevalier, Hedy Lamar, Steve Allen, Marlene Dietrich (on the arm of a young blond muscleman), Meredith Wilson (who wrote The Music Man) and other luminaries chatted in the lobby. The house lights dimmed and Maurice Chevalier with much glee introduced the singer. A thin man, in a suit that seemed to be much too tight, entered to thunderous applause and sang a song in French (a language I did not know). The audience went wild. He...
